Just wish we could build cars in the states, makes me sad to see production go to Mexico. Not sure about this model but the Buick Rendezvous is Mexican made. Pretty sure this profit generator is also.

Avoid extended warranties.

Most folks finance the premiums of these mechanical breakdown insurance contracts, so they pay interest on something they can't use for 36 Mo or 36K miles, (factory warranty) then when they do use it also pay a deductable (unless you buy the higher no deductable product)

When a covered breakdown does occur you transfer the decision of how your vehicle is to be repaired to the insurance company that is paying the bill and often second quality parts or LKQ (like kind & quality, read as USED) parts are procured to repair the vehicle.

The main reason to get a MBI (extended warranty) is the repair bills of these bombs can go into the thousands 2 or 3 on a major component, but IF you maintain the vehicle properly the likehood of such happening is greatly reduced and IF it does happen, most consumers don't realize the UNWRITTEN warranty for customer goodwill that some, (GM does) will provide to keep you as a customer. I know we put an engine in a 95 Bonneville at 65K miles in 1999. The 3800 died and the owner had ever oil change document he ever paid for we went to bat for him and GM bought the engine and almost all of the labor. Key thing is you must complain and document and have a dealer that wants to help.

Some of the aftermarket MBI administrators have filed chapter 7 so your warranty can be simply good striking paper. :moon:

Good info Geno, any feedback on the avalanche?? took a Dodge 3/4 hemi for a ride today for a comparison to the crew cab trucks
I have been looking at. Comparably equipped they come in around 2.5K less than Chevy/GMC or Ford and have the 7 yr.factory warranty on the powertrain ( the difference you can almost pickup a new plow with). Where it's mostly for work I am considering it.... Any other info much appreciated.

Glad to help Raz, I am sure sometimes it seems like I come across the wrong way , but I generally tell it like it is IF I know about it.

I have been away from a Chevy deal since 1997, so I know very little about them now. But for you guys out there (IF there are any) that own the 3800 V-6 in a Pontiac/Buick/Chev/Olds that have paid for a PLASTIC intake manifold, go directly to your dealer's service manager and ask for reimbursement, not saying that you will get it but they almost ALL died and it is due to a poor design, WHICH I feel GM should have to eat. Ever buy an intake on a 2.8 V-6 ? NOPE they are aluminum not plastic that melts when the EGR passage gets tooooooo hot. (EGR = EXHAUST GAS RECIRCUALTION) and exhaust gases are hot generally any time I burnt gasoline (farm days we would throw a tire or two on a brushpile and spice it up with gasoline or kerosene or #2 diesel) things got hot. BUT someone forgot to tell some young whipper snapper engineer that when he decided, HEY we can use cheap light plastic to build intake manifolds. We will save some money, while making the car lighter which will help us quailify for this years CAFE numbers. SOOOOooooooo it is a win win situation. NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND after 65-100K miles that plastic passage melts down (much like the melt down after the INDY comeback Monday night, SORRY GUYS, I just couldn't resist) and WHAM the warped plastic sealing flange starts leaking coolant, red COOLAID DEX-COOL coolant. It also gets sucked into the combustion chamber which does wonders for OXYGEN SENSOR sales. But hey parts guys like to eat a T-BONE every now and then so we do appreciate the business.

Waiter,....... toss me a T-Bone on the grille!

OK enough. I gotta get to bed so I can sell a couple tomorrow. :D
