Heading off today with the wifey and staying by O'Hare. We are going to hit Wrigley either tomorrow or Saturday.

What are the "must do's"?
Specific restaurants, sites, etc?

Thanks in advance!:00hour

You do know Chicago has some very nice Boutique Hotels. The James for example. Sure beats something near the airport. You might find that these smaller and more upscale hotels are not all that pricey.

Just for convenience The Boys, we are staying near the airport. We will catch the train to Wrigley either tomorrow or Saturday. Just wanted to get some suggestions on what to do. Deep dish pizza the day of the Cubs game, but one nice night for the wife. She had her third skin cancer spot taken out today(not serious) so I want to make sure we have a good time since it will be but arse cold

Here's my quick rundown

Wrigley Bar before the game: Murphy?s
Wrigley Bar after the game: Blarney Stone
Best Beer (microbrew): Half Acre, honorable mention to Revolution
Best Hot Dog: Frank ?n Dawgs ? not a true hot dog nor a Chicago dog but not processed meat parts either.
Best Pizza: Piece, really good beer too
Best Italian Beef: Al?s, but only the original location on Taylor Street. If you can?t get there just go to Portillos.
Best Canoli: D?Amato?s bakery
Best Italian Restaurant: Orso?s, either sit at the bar and listen to the piano guy or get a seat out on their back patio if the weather is decent.
Best High End Restaurant that?s priced normal: G.E.B.
Best Taco: Big & Little?s
Best BBQ: Smoke Daddy
Comedy Club: Improv Olympic is better and easier to get into than Second City (Second City still really good though)
Skyscraper: Don?t wait in line for Sears tower, go get a drink at the Signature Room at the Hancock
Bean Advice: Don?t go see it
Water tours: River architectural tour is far better than any of the Lake Michigan boat tours

Don't, perhaps the most over rated local food specialty I've come across. Tough call between that and average chili served on top of low grade spaghetti noodles.

Nice list here for an out of towner, Mr Poon....:0008

I'd rather have a drink or six at Guthrie's before setting foot in either of the two places you mentioned, but that's just me....

I have no problem with anything here except hot Doug's meat emporium is closing in October for good and I would find time to hit it on the way to wrigley.....and I like the bean and wouldn't head into the city for a nice restaurant with everything that rosemont/Ohare offers in terms of steakhouses.

Have fun.

Heard Hot Doug's was closing. It's good but just never liked the wait you usually have there, never much of a line at Frank n Dawgs and essentially same concept.

Neglected to put anything about steakhouses, definitely an oversight. Not sure what they have out by the airport but in the city proper you have to go with David Burke or Jordan's. Both do dry-aged which sadly seems fewer and fewer places do anymore in Chicago.

Guthrie's is solid. When I first started dating my wife she lived across the street and we would be there often. I like Murphy's before a game as it gives you a good vibe/feel of Wrigleyville. After the game I don't want to be in any of the crowded bars within a block, that's why I like Blarney Stone. You go two blocks south and you can actually get a bar stool and play a game of pool.

Whether you get deep dish or not, there are several good pizza places that use fresh ingredients on a traditional thin crust that are absolutely top notch.

Murphy's Bleachers and the Blarney Stone are good choices as well. The only thing I would disagree(only slightly) with is that Portillos is the second best choice for Italian Beefs. Jay's is solid, Bill's Drive in are both just off of Nagle.
Which hotel are you staying at by the airport? There are several good restaurants in that area.
Have fun man. Greatest city in the states.

Hope this helps,
FDC
