It's been a cold winter here, and it's finally thawing out here. Now I am assuming I had some condensation/ice in my chimney as water is now dripping down. My question is should there have been any condensation/ice in the chimney to begin with? I have no doors on the opening although we have ordered some and they will be installed in a few weeks.

anyone have any idea?

pretty sure that means you have a chimney problem/leak.

When I moved into my old house we tracked down a musty smell to the chimney. The previous owners had stuffed old shirts, blankets, towels, etc. up the chimney. They were soaking wet and covered with mold and mildew. I'm sure glad we didn't start any fires with all that mess up there!

We called a roofer, and he was able to pretty easily fix a sizable leak from a crack where the chimney and the roof connected.
