However, his popularity has plummeted, with only 24 percent of French people now supporting the president, according to a survey released Thursday.

"Chirac and Schroeder are close allies, but both have been weakened in recent weeks - Chirac by Sunday's referendum defeat in France, which prompted him to change his prime minister, and Schroeder by a stinging state election loss for his party last month."

Well I guess it doenst pay to be honest and tell the truth that were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq! His approval ratings look like old GW's they are falling and cant get up. Actually his approval ratings drop can mainly be attributed to his support of the EU when the majority of Frenchies oppossed joining.

MC, there are so many errors in your post, I can't be bothered with them all. You obviously know nothing about Europe.

The French started the EU....it was an attempt to avoid being invaded again....because as we all know, they certainly were'nt going to fight!

The French have always been the biggest single supporters of the EU, and old EEC.

Hope this helps.

Yes, the French 'started' the EU to avoid being invaded again. That's one of the goofier posts in this forum, but it's a sliding scale.

While Englishman is correct that the EU was originally founded as a defence alliance he fails to note that it was 1954 and the basic points of the EU has changed quite radically since that time and of course he failed to note the change. In case he missed it the French voted the EU Constitution down by nearly double digits and Charic took a huge risk putting the EU Constitution to vote instead of going through parliment. Englishman, please you have no need to correct my errors as there are none, and please feel free to stick to EUrupean politics as your takes on US politics are in general wrong.

it was an attempt at the total, mass socialization of europe...france still wants to ba a player on the world stage....but,can`t do it on their own..... with their economy, their reticence to basically do anything on their own.....

their own muslim immigration problems....

their 35 hour work week....

the europeans didn`t like the fact that their own sovereignty was being undermined.....

chirac couldn`t sell it...

he`s toast.....

a very happy ending appears in the offing...

YEP thats the liberal way--find a way to skirt the will of the people.
Kinda like the activist judge routine here.

Appears the people have spoken in the U.S. Australia, Britain and now France and Germany--and you can add Iraq-Afgan and others to the list also.

Appears to me the liberal media in other countries have about the same influence as here ;)

Come on now the Liberal way? No one has done more to eliminate the rights of the citizens of the United States as the Bush Administration has done during their reign. I will give you that activist judges should stay out of the gay marriage issue, but just as many activist judges on the right have been known to interprit laws on their own such as in abortion cases. The last poll that I saw still showed the the majority still supported abortion rights, and the margin was around 6%, but the poll could be outdated. To say either side does not have activist judges that interprit law to suit their beleifs would be in error.

As a matter fact I am for Roe vs Wade and don't think it will ever be repealed. I feel that is each persons choice and they have to live with it--where I draw the line is when activist judges try to interpret it and allow minors to have abortion without notifying or parents permission.
