i guess he was also referred to a mental hospital in 2005 by the police. how was this guy allowed to buy a gun? aren't these the type of things that should set off red flags when they run the background check?

This guy was entered into the mental health system by campus police. He stalked two woman, this information has to find it's way into the system that clears people to buy guns. The way the gun laws are, he did not commit a crime so he was able to be cleared by the back ground check system. There should be a mental health check. It would be nice if there was a way the campus police could have red flagged this guy at the time so that he could not buy guns. I know this is a touchy subject, but if we don't try to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of marginal people, we should not even try to find a solution and just sit by and hope it doesn't happen again. When it dose, we can all say how shocked we are. It's going to happen again. I'm not a gun control wacko. I don't have a problem with people owning guns but it's to easy. There has to be time to do a (REAL) background check . If someone feels their life is in danger and they need a gun asap, we should have a provision were you can go to your police department and be cleared through a special avenue. These are all good suggestions but there isn't much we can do. We live in an open society, the NRA and the forces that control illegal guns are not going to change. I guess we will have to live with the fact that every once in a while some nut job will get his hands on a weapon and thin out the population for us. We have to accept these kind of events as the price of doing business in the America we have become. It's every person for themselves, so go out and chose your weapon and be ready for the next one. What about the children ? Unless we start arming them, I guess we just have to sit back and watch when some nut decides it's hunting season next time.

Heard this morning something to the effect that they could not contact his parents on whatever mental issues he was having because it would have breached privacy laws. I guess this applies because he is an adult. I don't get it.

Hard to believe all they new about this guy. And then takes time to mail NBC a package. Then goes back to killing. Thought for ding bats and those that may Killed or harm others. We were improved on watching. Since Oklahoma City and 9/11 and of course Colorado high school killings. But looks like we are no better off.

Dj when i first heard this happen the first thought in my mind was i guess the line of "we are fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" would finally die. This just shows how easy it is to commit this kind of thing. that line the neocons love to throw around is so full of shit like there policies are keeping them from doing anything here. Trust me if they wanted to do something they will do it. They don't work on our rush time schedules.

Cho vs. Bush

Cho vs. Bush

Some killings are a outrage, some are accepted as that's the way things are. The same day or day after the school shootings, 183 people were killed in Iraq, but that was not the big story. I noticed that the big American flags at McDonalds are at half mass in honor of the students, today 9 US soldiers were killed in Iraq, where's their teddy bears and balloons? Cho may have killed 32 people, Bush has sent 3,300+ Americans to their deaths, and there will be more tomorrow. But somehow that's ok, the deaths of more than 70,000 Iraqis that's ok too, they were not Americans. Scorecards Cho 32, Bush 3,300, who's the real serial killer? BTW i think McDonald's flag should remain at half mass until the Iraqi war is over and our troops are back home.

Spytheweb: I wish you had better tact, because it would be a lot easier to take you seriously. A casual observer might think you were posing as a radical lefty for the sake of humor. I'm glad that you are passionate, but your approach is just too over the top.....even for the rest of us Bush-haters.

Spytheweb,,

You're not "over the top" for me. I depend on NO politician for my safety or well-being. I think 99.999 % are disgusting. And for the one that isn't, it's merely a matter of time. Lies and duplicity. They're a bunch of rodents.

Sadly, many of these young men falll prey to the enticement of the snare. Coming from impoverished backgrounds, they're given a glimpse of what "could" be an "opportunity" to improve their difficult lot in life. Yet not fully realizing the immediacy and severity of the real danger that lies in wait. How tragic!

How many do you think when asked, "why do you want to join the military?" reply, "I'm patriotic through and through". Sure.

I love this country, but I despise this war.

One mass killing was involuntary. The work of a madman. His victims were innocent and unaware.

The other is somewhat different but just as despicable.

Did anyone see that 60 Minutes piece on school killers?

The segment mentioned that the FBI has built a profile for these individuals, and the profile has a lot in common with the profiles of political assassinators.

According to the piece, the factors present in these individuals tends to be: Schizophrenia (and hearing voices), suicidal and homicidal ideation, paranoia, delusions of grandeur, anti-social, picked on by bullys as kids, no significant adult relationships, fatalism, and the need to tell at least one person what they are about to do.

They said Cho fit seven out of ten categories.

Sorry Gmr but i have to disagree because i feel the same rage he does. I think a bunch of greedy people set the tone for this war and all this death and destruction means nothing to them. These to me are heartless animals and should be caged. If you are willing to dig deep and follow the discusting money trail you will find lie after lie and billions of dollars vanish right into thin air and these same thieves are the ones to continue on like nothing is wrong. Maybe spy is a little over the top but that is what rage brings. The worst part to me is how grown men sit there like clueless fools and not be able to see this shit right in front of there clueless faces while these kids fight this richmans war.

I find it interesting that so many that advocate privacy laws--even to extent of not informing parents of childs pregnancy--all of sudden change horses and wonder why no one knew about this guy?

on the mental health/buy gun gambit.

Had he been admitted to mental hospital by outside source--info would have been privy--but since it was voluntary info could not be shared.

I am in agreement on stringent back round check on selling guns--but you can't be gungho on privacy rights on one hand and bitching when situation doesn't suit you.

why waste your time reading this guy ?

he never has anything constructive to post.

I thought you weren't into bashing in this forum? His post is certainly more constructive than yours. At least he expressed a feeling and opinion, whether you agree or not.

I for one do agree - just because it is in the name of politics does not mean that it is still murder, which I think we all can agree is wrong.

Hippo maybe he could have started his own thread. Don't think that's too much to ask. Many would like to be able to post about different subjects in this forum without every thread directed towards the same dead end. Gets real old real fast and doesn't seem to open minded in the grand scheme of things.

Dad, I've become concerned lately about the crowd you been running with. Don't mistake similar political leanings or pistachio gift baskets with 'friendship'.:nono:
