I attended a Thanksgiving get-together last night. At 9:30PM, the women all announced they were going shopping -- the stores were beginning their Black Friday deals at 10:00PM.

Thanks to the unabated consumerism of "the holidays", I was sitting in a bar at 1:30AM (the women were still shopping) argueing with a bunch of guys about Scott Walker and Ndamukong Suh.

Happy Thanksgiving. :toast:

I spent Black Friday in the far boonies of Berkeley county, SC eating a BBQ'd pig which had been on the grill overnight, and shooting quail. There's not a Target or WM within 50 miles.

Great food, fantastic dogs, lots of little brown birds twisting through the pines.

Heaven would be a step down.

Xmas? Bah! Humbug!

I avoided the mess as well.

I bought a TV on thursday, that was marked down $400, picked it up at 1130 on thursday, still a Charlie Foxtrot ! That was enough fun for me

Sounds like you had a great Black Friday, Duff.

Friday, my brother and I spent a couple hours with hospice nurses evaluating my Dad's situation. He's staying with me now. After our meeting with hospice, we took the old boy down to some of our old hunting haunts, his old country place, the home farm and our old hunting camp.

My other brother and his boy were down there deer hunting. They hadn't seen any deer though. The DNR plan to eradicate the deer herd in the southwest part of the state seems to be working. Whether it will eradicate CWD with it, remains to be seen.

My brother said he only saw one rooster pheasant at our favorite honey hole of years gone by. Most of the CRP at all of our old hunting haunts has gone under the plow in recent years. Of course, the birds disappeared as fast as the CRP did. A sad turn of events.

All things considered, a good Black Friday though because every day the old boy's still with us is a good day.

I know where you are, J-bro. We had Ann's mom for ten years and my mom for five years.

It's not just hard work, it's an emotional roller coaster too.

We'd all like to end differently, maybe an unexpected and massive heart attack in a cornfield full of roosters.

We have no way to know which day will be the last day, but for me I intend to push the envelope as hard as I can every day. Then my ashes can be dumped in the Pacolet river.

?Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!?

It's been a helluva year and an emotional roller-coaster to be sure, Duff. He's taking radiation for his esophageal cancer right now but I don't know how much more he can take. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks again, Duff. I appreciate that.

I regret that the three of us never got a chance to hunt together. You and the old boy would've have gotten along famously.
