Here's my thoughts on tonight's game....

First off, this has the potential to be a very entertaining game to watch. Two 5-0 teams going at it. Good stuff.

I really like the home doggy here though. South Florida's defense is fast and will present a challenge that Tony Pike hasn't seen so far this year. The kicking game could come into play too. Cincinnati's kicker has only attempted 3 FGs all year (made 2), while S Florida has attempted 9 (only making 3....with 2 different kickers). That scares me off the South Florida moneyline for sure. I can't trust a kicking crew like that with the game on the line. It'll be nice to have the 2 points to lean on there.

I think that BJ Daniels is going to be too athletic for Cincy as well. Since Groethe went down to injury, Daniels has filled in well.

Regardless, should be a entertaining game.

Play: South Florida +2 (2 units $110 to win $100)

i agree that s. florida d is fast... i do believe they can slow down the bearcats explosive offence.. but dont think they can hold them to under 24 imo.. gl with your play

Thanks LDB. I'm hanging my hat on the fact that Cincy really hasn't experienced anything like S Florida's defense this year. I'd take a 20-17 South Florida win ;)

Not sure what you mean by "better"? Did everyone not think FSU was a better team than USF when they played them at home with USF starting a new QB for first time? I told anybody that would listen USF was for real... guess my point is, "better" is all about perception.

I wouldn't bet against Leavitt being successful vs. a ranked team in Tampa almost ever---even, if that team were Alabama or UF.

These are the kind of games where USF thrives.... reminds me of FSU during the mid 80's, they were the little guys that slayed enough giants until they became a giant themselves.

Have to take USF to win straight up, here.

Agree with some things you said except I would not be using the USF/FSU game as a measuring stick as to where USF is this year as FSU kinda blows. I mean Jacksonville St almost won their.

Tampa is a tough place for anyone to leave with a "W" , but in all fairness weaker teams won their last year(Rutgers won 49-16 and Pitt won 25-21 @USF). This year's Cincy is better than both of those two teams that won @USF last year.

My lean is towards Cincy but have not pulled the trigger yet.

And Cincy is far from a GIANT as they are the ones also looking to do some slaying.
Good luck

think Kelley is in a different league than Leavitt as far as coaching, think the fact that he is at Cincy hurts his exposure.....

The dirty South will take the Bearcats to the woodshed. Bank on it.

Good luck to all of you guys tonight.

And let me tell you....I don't care about line movement or anything like that. Line movement has nothing to do with what the guys on the field are doing. So I don't talk any of that into consideration when I'm looking at games. I simply look at the two teams and try to come up with an edge. In tonight's case, I love the athleticism of S Florida....and being at home getting points. I think that's a great combo! :00hour

Funny some of the arguments made for Cincy

Funny some of the arguments made for Cincy

But then again these are the same comments made about BOISE ST last night and how they should have shred the 107th ranked defensive pass of Tulsa. :mj07:

These two teams are both somewhat of a fraud. Neither team has played a quality defense yet. Florida State's defense, despite public perception, is giving up a whopping 6.9 yards a play (114th in the nation in this category) which makes the S. Fla win over the Seminoles seem not so great. South Florida also lost to Syracuse everywhere but on the scoreboard. They were outgained and were doubled up in first downs by the orangemen. Paulus threw 5 interceptions and that was the difference or S. Fla gets crushed last week.
By the same token, Fresno State out gained and out-first-downed Cincinatti in their game. Both these teams should have a loss on their record.
All in all a very difficult game to cap because of the lack of talent in the teams combined opponents so far. I guess we find out tonight if either of these teams is for real.

He won't be there for long. I've been a huge backer of the guy since his days in the MAC. the job he did in rejuvenating the Central Mich program was almost miraculous.

I think he's a top 5 coach for sure and in time will land a job that is commensurate with that very level. If Cinci can keep this guy aroud for 4 years I'd love to see how good the Bearcats could be with four of his own recruiting classes.

I could be wrong but I thought public percetion of Florida St defense was that it was flat out awful.

Am I wrong? :142smilie
