It's midnight...it's the ball...Cinderella's got to "book" because we all know what will happen...she loses her slipper...and for a few seconds she realizes that her faith in that dream that the rainbow will come true is in jeopardy. But she knows if you keep believing the dream..that wish will come true..
Well the "ball" is the NCAA womans dance. And there are some teams in the third round that are all like Cinderella stories. Of course the one with Marist's Lady Red Foxes is a storybook in itself.Knowing the coach and having played against him and 2 of his players siblings playing against my daughters on the court make the fairy tale even more realistic. But Marist isn't the only Cinderella team playing.
The boys dominate the "Ball" or should I say "dance".And rightfully so.Many fans can't watch womans basketball and I understand that too.You have to be a little loco to get into womans hoops. But if you read some of the stories out there about some of the womans programs and what they did this week it;s pretty intresting. To recap...Marist of course knocked off Ohio St..Big-10 power..then took in Mid Tenn and its 27 game win streak..tomorrow they meet Pat Summits Tenn Vols where she is 40-0 in 1st and 2nd rd games.I'll come back to my Red Foxes representing of course my favorite conf the MAAC.

But there is Bowling Green in the other MAC who was 0-11 vs SEC teams and then go on to upset Vandy.
No MAC team has ever advanced pass the 2nd rd.They have 3 seed Zona St tonite who is loaded

Florida St knocks off the mighty Stanford in Palo Alto with 3 sophs and 1 frosh starting.Last year Coach Semrau camped outside in a tent near the gym for 2 days selling basketball tickets so they could sell out there last home game.Tonite around 11.30 pm just about an half hour before midnite FSU takes on the mighty Tigers of LSU.Who would ever think in a year how things turn around..

Mississippi Rebs who back in Nov played Maryland ,defending national champs with all 5 starters back and got beat by 31 pts.And at the "ball" in the 2nd dance force the Terps with 20 turnovers....in the 1st half...and elimanate the defending champions. And Miss's top player Price had to wear a "flap" over her shorts because her mother who was gravely ill and strict pentacostal follower. The mother pased away and i think she doesn't wear the flap anymore.

There are a lot of stories with the womans "ball", Kay Yows NC St Pack beat Baylor..Both seeded high but Yow has stage 4-breast cancer. They have UConn tonite but you can bet Yows kids will play 110%.

Although Rutgers has had a good team over the years and they play No 1 Duke...those dukies better watch out. This is a good Scarlet Knight team and I love the +11.5 ..I'll capp it later..they play on Sunday..

Well..these teams like Marist,Bowling Green,Fl St,Miss,NC St and Geo Washington ...all do have something in common with a dance and Cinderella..today and tomr..they will keep there dream that they have and wish it will come through. I also hope the slipper stays on a little longer..

Will be back later and capp a few in both dances..last nite was 3-0 until USC collapse..

Box, ASU and Bowling Green are tipping off a noon? Any lean on this early game? I see BG is now +3. Pretty sure that line started at +4.5

ASU -3.5 over Bowling green **
small play..BG could win this after nice win over vandy.ASu has a nice balanced attack, fast break but are patient and work the ball. They have one of the deepest benches and play a lot of girls.BG is also balanced with 5 players avg in double d's.Think Sun devils are just a little bit better..
thought this was a late game..sorry

thanks oats..

Rutgers +11.5 over Duke **
Love Rutgers but there going against the No 1 team duke who i think wins it all.Duke is loaded and led by the best post player in womans hoop 6'7 Bales. She is so strong inside, rebounds, scores and blocks shots. An air craft carrier in the paint. Then they have two gds that are outstanding. Harding was ALL ACC and her partner Warner.Warner hit six 3's the other nite..But what makes Duke even better is there defense...that can shut down teams...they play uptempo offense..and Goestenkart there coach plays another 5 or 6 girls off the bench..depth...Duke will win the "womans" dance. Bales can carry them.. but Duke struggled vs Temple last week and beat them by 10..
Rutgers is also good.A great defensive team that also shuts down teams.Holding 11 of the 16 Big east teams to there seasons low pts. They held 12 teams to under 50 and another 6 teams to under 40.
back in early dec Duke beat RU 85-45...but RU isn't the same team. In the 4 games prior to playing Duke RU gave up 70 pts or more on defense. That ended after the Duke game Ajavon the good pt gd was out for 4 games and the Duke game was her 1st game back.Prince the 2nd leading scorer now was still a puppy back then and mcCurdy has gottton better.RU runs that famos 55 press defense and McCurdy is the point.RU has won 19-22 and have an offense that has some weapons.Vaughn there center needs help today with Bales..she did get 18 rebounds in there 1st game but Bales intimated her.
Both teams rely on there defense.Duke is 2nd in the nation in scoring defense..RU is 2nd in the nation in FG% defense.RU needs to stay out of foul trouble esp Ajavon..she to me is the key..an excellent pt gd who has those 'windshield wipe moves" and can penetrate..dish and stick the 3. Think she plays good and this is a close game.if she gets into foul trouble..say saynarro..
Not a big play because Duke scares me.If they play there A game and Rutgers there B+ Duke could win by 15-20..
Also this game is being played in Greenboro,NC about 50-60 miles from Duke..thats not really fair but the womans dance always allows that...so Duke has a big home team advantage..but I'm sticking with Rutgers to keep this close..

Box, in all sincerity why did the NCAA women have to have a 64 team bracket identical to the men? Didn't half of these wo mans teams not even have close to.500 records?

Memphis +2 over Ohio St ***
Over 135 ***
They have size, depth, athletic, they press, have two 6'6 wings in Douglas and Anderson that can cause probems and breakdown defenses.Oden is a force but I think Calipari will have a good game plan.Memphis wins a pretty high scoring game. I see something like 82-78..Tigers winning.

Sun..I heard the rumor too. Texas should go out and get Marists coach...Brian G...he could go to any mall...pick out 5 girls..in and 3 weeks have a good basketball team...
Moesh..saw that to late
Shamrock..not sure why

Box I went back and looked, for the most part I was wrong, there are many great teams in the womens Tournament. Only teams like Drake (14-18), Holy Cross (14-17), UMBC (15- 16). other teams like Washington, prairie view, dePaul and East Caro were all 17-13, Harvard(15-13) Idaho state (17-14) hardly Tournament worthy.

I have been a proponent of woman s athletics for many years, my girlfriend in college was a all American lax player, and the first woman inducted into union college athletic Hall of fame.

I enjoy watching the better women s teams playing on television. I just wish the woman would not just emulate NCAa men, the womans is good enough to stand by itself. tighten it up to 48 teams, no need to copy man s Tournament. Teams that don't deserve it shouldn't get into Tournament. Especially teams with losing records.

What an ending in the Rutgers win. Great defense by Rutgers...gotta love it. down by 4 with 1.09...and they win it. Harding shoots and misses off the back rim..

NC St +11.5 over UConn **
Think that Whittington has a big game.Goring who Geno calls the "female olajuwon" and the other vets keep this game close.Pack did beat Duke and NC..They play tough defense, have outside shooting and are vets. geno has no superstars but talent everywhere. All 5 players avg Double d's.Charles is a dangerous puppy. But there young going against the Pack who have a few seniors.Huskies have the better talent but again...Yow's condition is a factor in her players play tonite.
Don't think UConn can blow them away..

shamrock..is that union College in Scenectady..love that gym..funny story about.
okie..Stringer could never go to Texas..she's good enough but she is pretty controversial..always says things that gets her in trouble..you can do that in East rutherford..not in Austin..

caper..you are right..football..now hoops..but they dropped about 6 other teams..swimming,fencing,etc

dog lover..Sun is right..they will go for a big name.. But Brian G would be a steal..But knowing him... he probaly wouldn't go...he's the type of guy that loves Poughkeepsie.

LSU -8.5 over Fl St **
Spent mucho time on this game..Tigers have a big time stud in Fowles. At 6'6 she is a big scorer and rebounder. Is clsoe to many all time LSU records.Think FSU will have a tough time stopping her.many teams have tried gimmick defenses and she continues to dominate.LSU plays a 3 gd offense compared to FSU's 4 gd.LSU plays better defense...and they ended there season other then losing to vandy in conf final by beating 2 teams they lost to..earlier..Tenn and Miss.
FSU has 2 big upsets already vs ODU and Stanford.Think tonite they will struggle vs the Tigers.Pockey is out as coach and I don't think that plays into this game as much as the media makes it out to be.It does efffect it and I'm not trying to down play it but I'm sure Starkey the asst. knows what he is doing.he is consdired the X and O's man.Tigers aren't the greatest offensive team but a few weeks ago when they beat Tenn Fowles had 19 pts and 20 rebounds...
