AND WHAT ABOUT THOSE CHARITIES?

Let?s look at that definition of ?opportunist? again. An opportunist is ?one who takes advantage of any opportunity to achieve an end, often with no regard for principles or consequences.?

What are the possible consequences of Martha Burk?s Masters publicity grab? How about those Augusta area charities who received over $3 million from the Master?s tournament last year? Due to Burk?s actions, Augusta National had to make the decision to forego all television advertising for this year?s tournament. No sponsors, no money for charities. There?s the fulfillment of that ?no regard for consequences? part of the definition.

Well, the members of Augusta National have stepped forward. They will guarantee that very same $3.5 million to charity this year ? even though the sponsor revenue won?t be there. The Augusta National membership is not going to allow charities to suffer from the actions of Martha Burk.

I wonder how much Martha Burk contributed to charities last year?

Nor surprised by Burks comments, typical protesters rational.

I think this hussy finally shot her load on this one. My response to her "Women can die in war in Iraq but can't be members of Augusta"

How many of the male soilders that make up 98% of coalition there do you think can become members? about the same number that can become members of the LPGA (0)

Ferdville:

Let me return the compliment by saying I never thought I would say this but I agree with you that democracy is not possible in Iraq. If that is true, what are we doing there? Replacing one dictator with another? Or does are rationale for invading this country go to my Texas Tea argument?

By the way, I wonder how many of you will feel this invasion is justified if the "coalition" forces find chemical weapons? I wonder how many of you who have posted arguments against the war will change their respective minds and say the Cheney/Rumsfield Administrations invasion of Iraq is okay?

Just wonderin cause we know that Hussein has had them since the 80's. I wonder how many of you would advocate the use of nuclear weapons if DC, Huntington Beach, the state of Texas, or your hometown was encircled by a foreign military force? Just curious.

Dogs: Up until this invasion, I thought we were one of the more civilized countries in the world. Since the hawkish, significant majority elected Messers. Cheney and Rumsfeld, with there inept frontman named Bush (buy him another drink), I think this country has taken numerous rungs downward on the civilization ladder.

I anticipate, in third world countries, numerous atrocities take place on a daily basis. I'm sure in Africa, civilians are targeted constantly. But I find it interesting that in this country who does the fighting. If its anything like the other big mistake we made in the 50's and 60's, its the poor and undereducated (much like Dr. Freeze) who do the fighting and dying.

So, in a sense, we are guilty of the same thing only on a more esoteric level. Sing a few patriotic songs, spin a few stories how Sadaam is a threat to the security of this country and voila` (language chosen intentionally) corporate america and their minion political leaders (republican party) have Johnny marching off to war for the good old USA.

Generally, Johnny is some bright eyed kid full of patriotic fervor with a high school education, disporportionately a racial minority who bought the bill of goods from some small town with a girl back home. I found it interesting that very few of our wonderful congressmen have children serving in Iraq. If anyone knows, please post the number.

Now, I have to go back and pick up my protest sign and head off to the next rally. Anyone keeping an eye on common shares of Haliburton lately. Do you guys find it strange on how quiet our illustrious vice-president has been lately? That guy is one dangerous dude.

Ed, coward for peace.

Ferdville, Saddam 100% of the vote. I would guess he either had no opposition or a hand picked one that would of course lose.
That's what is great about our country. Two/Three parties.
We would have same mess here if we just had one.
Augusta/Masters going to take a hit this year from sponsers? I guess if they do they will double up next year to make it up.
These big boy outfits dont take any hits unless in a court room.
Not saying whos right or wrong becasue I dont care. All I want is a good tourney.
There is so much miss informtion coming out of Iraq. I believe we have to be pushing some of it our selfs. I only wish our pushers would be better at it.
Strang since the war started how well it can work for taking someones mind off other problems. When's the last time you herd anything about the missing woman who was walking her dog Xmas eve out in Calf. Been so long I forgot the name. I forgot how bad our economy is. Forgot about all the high uneployment. Health care cost going up and insurance rates right with it. All those who dont have health care because they lost there jobs. Or have no education to get a job. Or seniors who cant afford drugs. A war can keep your mind off these things. Wont go there? I refuse to think our government would ever be that low. I dont think Cheney or Rumsfield are that smart.

Don't remember the exact facts, but @ Iraq's last election Saddam got 100%of the votes. Something like 11 million ballots counted and the Ministry of Information released the results pretty quick seeing how these votes were hand counted:brows:

Eddie - you make some good points without a doubt. But don't lay the race card on us. There is NOT a disproportionate number of non-whites on the front lines. In fact, when it comes to the troops under fire, there is a disproportionate number of whites found there. Secondly, the last time I checked enlistment in the armed services was voluntary. Did "W" and his henchman go out and take peiople of color off the streets and forceably place them in the service? I would submit to you that there are humerous reasons why minorities go into the service. Job training and financial support for education after their service are pretty enticing things to people of all ethnicities. I teach in a school that is more than 93% non-white. Many choose to go into the service for the very benefits I have stated. Many also choose to go in support of "their" country." If the draft was still in place, I would agree with you in full. But in a voluntary system, how can one complain about disproportionate numbers. In fact, if anything, it would go the other direction since the services now require a high school diploma to enlist. There is, without question, a disproportionate number of minorities that do not graduate from high school.

exactly.....

there is a disproportionate # of WHITES in the military AND in theh front lines...

for years liberals have been using this line with no facts...just playing the good ol' race card....

#'s were recently shown by the armed forces and guess what???

Eddie and his fellow race/class warfare patrol were DEAD WRONG!!!!

I would hope we have more whites in the services. What is the ratio white to black and other in this country. 60% to 20% and 20% other. Would be ashamed if there were not more whites. Ratio should be close to general population.

# of whites is disproportionate DJV to populations #'s.....

more whites in armed force AND in the front lines %wise then there are in the population.....

NOW....is that racist? more whites are getting paid by US Gov't for their services then the population.....more jobs then quota.....

OR....would it be racist if FEWER whites were in the armed forces....

either argument could be used and HAS BEEN USED to cry racism by the left wingers.....very laughable....either we have too many whites or not enough....

DJV - what we are saying is that there are more whites in front lines for example, than the white population as a whole. The percentages are disproportionate. I'm sure you probably realized that. As I said before, since the services are voluntary, why would this even be an issue for people unless they wanted to use erroneous information to try to prove a point that has no basis in fact?

I guess what im saying is I agree it is not racist. Seems like there are about what should be in the service overall. I have no answer for what may be happing in the front lines. One think I do get a little ticked at some time is a few of our soldiers who are not happy. Why? Well they liked the job when there is peace. But not so much now. Hey no one makes anyone join. I know in Nam we had some folks just hated about everything. But they had been drafted and thougth the system was unfair. I dont know if it was or not.
