College Football Week 7: Games to Watch

Week 6 of the college football season proved to be one of the most explosive in recent memory, with the results from Saturday having a major impact on the National Rankings outside of the Top 4 teams.

The top teams in the nation continued to roll, but it was what happened in the spot below them that caused a major shake-up. The losses by LSU and Oklahoma have opened things up in a big way, with a couple of teams set to make big jumps in this week?s rankings.

Instead of looking back, let?s look ahead at dome of the biggest games on the college football schedule for Week 7 with all odds, props and futures for each game sponsored by YouWager.eu.

Pittsburgh Panthers at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The biggest beneficiary of the Week 6 results was the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, as they moved all the way up to the #5 spot after maintaining their unbeaten record on the season. The Irish are now on the brink of cracking the top 4, although they still need one of the top teams to slip up, which is certainly a possibility given some of the match-ups we have on tap this Saturday. While Notre Dame are an overwhelming favorite for this one, it is still a potential trip-up game for them, as they may let down a little after taking such a nice jump up the rankings. The Panthers are coming off a surprising win over Syracuse in Week 5, so they are sure to still be riding on a bit of a high. Still, Notre Dame should win this one.

Georgia Bulldogs at LSU Tigers

No doubt about it, this is the biggest game on the schedule this coming weekend. The LSU Tigers fell out of the #5 spot this week after losing on the road to the Florida Gators, and things are not going to get any easier with the #2 team in the nation coming to town on Saturday. Georgia rolled over Vanderbilt last week, scoring over 40 points for the 5th time in 6 games this season. The loss for the Tigers means that they now need some help if they are to catch Alabama in the West, and they could well be out of the SEC race altogether with another loss this weekend, which I believe is what is going to happen to them.

Washington Huskies at Oregon Ducks

There were no PAC-12 teams in the playoff last season and it?s fair to suggest that things are beginning to look as though we may see more of the same this year. As it stands right now, the Washington Huskies and the Colorado Buffaloes look like the best chance this conference has of getting a team into the final four, as both are still unbeaten in conference play, although Washington do have a loss on the season, going down to Auburn in Week 1. The Huskies need this one to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, while the Ducks, who are 1-1 in conference play. Need it to get back in the hunt in the North Division. I think it will be the Huskies who win here.

Wisconsin Badgers at Michigan Wolverines

The Big Ten Conference is being controlled by the Ohio State Buckeyes right now, but that does not necessarily mean that they are going to get to the Championship Game totally unopposed. Their biggest threat right now would appear to be the Michigan Wolverines, which is perhaps a bit of a surprise given how poorly they started the season. As good as Michigan have been in recent weeks, they know they really cannot afford another loss if they are still to have a shot at the playoffs. Wisconsin have been poorer than expected this season, which is why I like the Wolverines to continue rolling this weekend.

STAT WATCH: Ole Miss' 826 yards 2nd-highest in SEC history

Mississippi came within 7 yards of the Southeastern Conference record with its national season-high 826 yards of total offense against Louisiana-Monroe.

It was the biggest output nationally since Oklahoma and Texas Tech each amassed 854 yards against each other in October 2016, and in the SEC since Paul ''Bear'' Bryant's Alabama Crimson Tide piled up 833 yards against Virginia Tech in 1973.

The Rebels went over 500 yards for the fourth time this season and rank seventh in the country at 540.8 per game.

They had 517 yards passing and 309 rushing and scored on their first nine possessions against ULM. DaMarkus Lodge, A.J. Brown and DK Metcalf each had more than 100 yards receiving in the 70-21 win .

Ole Miss' 49 first-half points were its most since it had 42 in two quarters against Houston in 1958, and its 536 yards in the first half were most by an SEC team in at least 15 years.

The only other team to generate 800 total yards this season was Boise State, which had 818 against Connecticut on Sept. 8.

ULM, it should be noted, went into the game 112th in the nation in total defense, at 471.8 yards per game. The onslaught left ULM's defensive average to 530.8, which ranks 127th out of 129 teams.

200 CLUB

Jordan Cronkrite of South Florida led three rushers over 200 yards. Cronkrite carried 23 times for 302 yards against Massachusetts, Kansas State's Alex Barnes ran 22 times for 250 yards against Baylor and Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor went 24 for 221 against Nebraska. Taylor continues to lead the nation at 169.8 yards per game.

EIGHT SOUNDS GREAT

Georgia Tech scored eight rushing touchdowns for the second week in a row, doing it while running for a national season-high 542 yards against Louisville on Friday. The Yellow Jackets also ran for eight TDs against Bowling Green. No other team has had more than seven rushing TDs in a game. The Yellow Jackets lead the nation with 373 yards rushing per game and 29 rushing TDs.

LONGEST FIELD GOAL

Missouri's Tucker McCann kicked the longest field goal of the season when he connected from 57 yards against South Carolina. He also became the third kicker to attempt six field goals in a game, and he made five of them. The 57-yarder was second-longest in program history behind Tom Whelihan's 62-yarder against Colorado in 1986.

ALL THE WAY

Utah cornerback Jaylon Johnson became the first player this season to return an interception 100 yards. Johnson's pick-6 came in the second quarter against Stanford , making him the first to pull off the feat for Utah since 1994.

Kerrith Whyte Jr. became the first Florida Atlantic player to return a kickoff 100 yards, going all the way in the third quarter against old Dominion. Whyte had the previous long kick return for the Owls, taking one 98 yards in 2017.

STAT OF THE WEEK

Scott Frost's 0-5 record at Nebraska is the worst start by a first-year Big Ten head coach since Ron Turner went 0-11 at Illinois in 1997. There have been 41 coaching changes in the conference in those 21 years.

9) Boston 16, New York 1? Brock Holt is the first baseball player ever to hit for the cycle in a playoff game; how weird is that?

David Price sucks in the postseason, and he doesn?t pitch well against New York; Red Sox still owe Price $127M over the next four seasons, but when you?re a fat-cat team, you can afford miscues like this, and just spend more money to overcome them.

9) AFC North is only division in NFL where all the team are .500 or better.

8) If you think your favorite team is screwed up, be thankful you don?t root for the Phoenix Suns, who fired GM Ryan McDonough Monday, eight days before the season starts.

Last year, the Suns fired coach Earl Watson AFTER THREE GAMES. Oy.

7) Looks weird seeing Lebron James wearing a Lakers? jersey; Lakers-Warriors play here in Las Vegas tomorrow night at T-Mobile Center.

6) Spurs? PG Dejounte Murray tore his ACL Sunday night; he was expected to be the Spurs? PG this season, replacing the departed Tony Parker.

5) 49ers ran 92 plays in their loss to Arizona Sunday; Cardinals ran only 49, but when you?re minus-5 in turnovers, not else matters too much. Still, 92 plays is a hell of a lot for an NFL game.

4) You see Cleveland 12, Baltimore 9 and you think it was an ugly game, but yardage was actually 416-410, Browns, so both teams moved the ball well enough, they were just useless in the red zone, scoring 18 points on six drives.

3) Over $50M of the Buffalo Bills? payroll this year is going to players who aren?t on the team.

2) FOX TV analyst Chris Spielman said Sunday that he considers Aaron Rodgers to be the best QB ever. Pretty strong statement.

College Football Week 7 Opening Line Report

Where has the early money gone in college football for Week 7? The biggest line move in college football so far in Week 7 is on the winless Nebraska Cornhuskers. Texas is coming off a very emotional win against Oklahoma last week and it would be natural if they have a letdown. The Bears can score, but they can?t stop anyone, so this is likely to be a high scoring game. Baylor is 4-2 on the season, while Texas is 5-1.

There are three marquee games this week, as No. 2 Georgia visits No. 13 LSU on CBS, No. 7 Washington visits No. 17 Oregon on ABC or ESPN 2 and No. 15 Wisconsin visits No. 12 Michigan on ABC.

Almost every team in the country is into its conference schedule this week, which generally leads to lower spreads and more entertaining finishes.

The College Football Playoff contenders are beginning to separate themselves and the games continue to take on more and more importance. The slate in Week 7 could have huge ramifications for a number of conference races. Which teams are the right choice to pick, either on the moneyline or against the spread?

Odds Analysis

The Duke Blue Devils got off to a really nice start this season but were humbled last time out by Virginia Tech. Duke has still put together a solid season and has a chance to push for a new spot in the national rankings with a victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Blue Devils are two-point road underdogs but they are the pick to grab a close win. Duke is a good choice as the +105 underdog on the moneyline.

The USC Trojans and Colorado Buffaloes are two of the better teams in the Pac-12 South. They are facing off in a crucial head-to-head matchup this week. USC is the home team and should be able to pick up the win, but a seven-point spread is too high. Colorado is the choice to cover the spread.

The Washington Huskies are aiming to get back in the College Football Playoff conversation and likely need to run the table to do so. They have a tough game next time out against the Oregon Ducks. Washington is a three-point favorite but Oregon is a good team in its own right and is playing at home. Take the Ducks to spring the upset as the +135 underdogs on the moneyline.

The Wisconsin Badgers are a 7.5-point road underdog against the Michigan Wolverines. This is an intriguing spread because Wisconsin can lose by a touchdown and still cover. Michigan has played well this season but does not have the type of firepower to pull away. This one should be close from start to finish and the Badgers are the correct pick against the spread.

The Texas Longhorns are coming off an impressive win over the Oklahoma Sooners last time out. Their offense was unstoppable but it might take a step back in this next matchup against the Baylor Bears. Texas will win by double digits but a lower-than-expected score will allow for Baylor to cover.

The Alabama Crimson Tide looks head and shoulder above the rest of the field in college football They are taking on a solid Missouri Tigers team in Week 7 but the Crimson Tide is still a heavy 28.5-point favorite. Alabama has been burned by some backdoor covers in recent weeks but look for the Crimson Tide to jump out to a big lead and cover the spread in this matchup.

The Georgia Bulldogs are preparing for a critical clash against the LSU Tigers, and the result could have a large effect on the College Football Playoff picture. Georgia is the seven-point road favorite. The Bulldogs are the pick to win on the moneyline but LSU is the choice to cover.

The UCLA Bruins are hitting the road to face off against the California Golden Bears. NCAA Football Game Preview - Georgia Bulldogs at LSU Tigers

The Georgia Bulldogs are undefeated on the season and taking aim at another College Football Playoff berth, but the schedule gets tough this week. Georgia has to hit the road for showdown against another nationally ranked team in the LSU Tigers.

Georgia is ranked No. 2 in the nation and LSU was right there next to it in the top-5 before a loss last time out to the Florida Gators. LSU has high-profile wins over Miami and Auburn this season. The Tigers were the underdogs in both of those matchups and will be again in this one. LSU will be upset-minded once again while Georgia wants to take care of business on the road and continue to position itself as one of Alabama?s chief contenders for the national title.

This is a gigantic SEC clash and will be pivotal in the path toward the College Football Playoff for both sides in college football odds.

This NCAA football game between the Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers will be held at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at 3:30 p.m ET on Saturday, October 13th, 2018. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.

The Bulldogs are seven-point favorites to come away with the road win. Georgia is the -265 favorite on the moneyline while LSU is the +218 underdog. The scoring total is listed at 50.5 points as both teams have elite defenses which are expected to keep the offensive explosions mostly under wraps.

Last Time Out

LSU?s offense couldn?t get much going last time out in a 27-19 loss to the Florida Gators. The Tigers were hoping to make a surprising run to the College Football Playoff and aren?t technically done yet but this was a big loss.

The Bulldogs had no such issues, as they rolled to a 41-13 victory over Vanderbilt. Quarterback Jake Fromm led the way for Georgia, completing 17-of-23 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns on a light afternoon of work. His favorite target was Terry Godwin, who had a pair of catches for 95 yards and a score.

Player To Watch

Fromm -- The LSU defense is only allowing 17.0 points per game on the year and has held in check some solid offenses, but Georgia is favored in large part because of its quarterback. Fromm has thrown for 1,200 yards on the season with 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He has done a nice job of taking care of the ball and will need to do so against an advantageous LSU defense.

Fromm has the type of talent to succeed on the next level and will aim to prove his worth against a worthy foe in this one.

The one positive for Michigan State has been the play of quarterback Brian Lewerke. He is completing 64.2 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,328 yards. He does have six interceptions this season, but he has been forced to throw a lot more than a year ago.

The Nittany Lions are coming off a crushing loss to Ohio State but that was two weeks ago and Penn State should have now put that loss behind them. They are very potent on offense, as they rank No. 5 in the country, averaging 49.6 points per game. Quarterback Trace McSorley has 10 TDs and only two interceptions. Miles Sanders has 538 yards on 87 carries with six touchdowns. McSorley has 410 rushing yards and six TDs on the ground. The Penn State defense is giving up 21 points per game.

Intangible Factor

Michigan State and Penn State have developed a rivalry lately that has had some hard feelings. Three years ago it was Michigan State putting in an offensive lineman in the backfield and letting him score in a 55-16 win at East Lansing. Two years ago Penn State head coach James Franklin accused Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio of using negative recruiting tactics against his program.

Penn State threw the ball for deep TDs late in the game to run up the score two years ago. Last year the Spartans rallied to pull off a 27-24 upset. If Penn State gets up in this game early, don?t expect them to let off the gas.

Appalachian State beats Arkansas State 35-9

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) Darrynton Evans ran for 115 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries to help Appalachian State beat Arkansas State 35-9 on Tuesday night.

The Mountaineers (4-1, 2-0 Sun Belt Conference) took the lead for good at 14-9 on Zac Thomas' 25-yard back shoulder pass to Corey Sutton with 2:57 left in the second quarter.

Tae Hayes intercepted Justice Hansen's pass three plays later and his 19-yard return set up the Mountaineers with a first-and-goal from the 3. Evans' 1-yard TD run made it 21-9 with 45 seconds left in the half.

Jalin Moore got the Mountaineers on the scoreboard with a 27-yard TD run early in the second quarter. He suffered a right ankle injury while being tackled as he reached for the end zone and was carted off the field.

Blake Grupe made all three of his field-goal attempts, including a career-long 47-yarder that gave the Red Wolves (3-3, 0-2) a 6-0 lead.

The Badgers have running back Jonathan Taylor and quarterback Alex Hornibrook and Wisconsin has won 17 straight Big Ten regular season games. Hornibrook is 24-4 as Wisconsin?s starter and he has won 18 of his 20 Big Ten starts. ?He has really good stature in the pocket,? Harbaugh said to the media, ?He can get hot. He throws those intermediate dig routes as well as anyone can. He?s a very experienced guy, played in big games. He?s a really good quarterback. Michigan dropped their season opener against Notre Dame but they have rolled since, outscoring opponents by a combined 212-71. The Wolverines lead the country in overall defense and in pass defense. The offense is vastly improved with Shea Patterson at the helm, as the Wolverines are averaging 420.7 yards per game.

This game will likely come down to whether or not Michigan can contain Taylor who rushed for 221 yards and three TDs last week against Nebraska. The Badgers have a good offensive line with center Tyler Biadasz, tackle David Edwards and guards Michael Deiter and Beau Benzschawel. Taylor is averaging 169.8 yards a game and 6.7 yards a carry and he has scored eight rushing touchdowns. The Michigan defense is 6th in the country in fewest rushing yards allowed, as they are giving up just 96.5 per game.

I am tempted to take Michigan simply because I have no faith in Wisconsin being able to move the ball consistently, but I think the better choice is the total. I know that the trends support a high scoring game, but I just don?t see it. I think this game will be a slugfest and low scoring, so I will go under the total.

West Virginia has been hot against the number, going 4-1 ATS in their past five overall, and 14-3 ATS in the past 17 on the road against teams with a losing home record. I-State has also been good against the spread, going 13-3-1 ATS in the past 17 against winning teams, while cashing in four of their past five at home. Texas Tech at TCU

This week?s Thursday night game is a prominent Big XII clash as Texas Tech and TCU face off. While both teams are closer to the bowl bubble than the Big XII title game at this point in the season, this will be a key game in the conference pecking order not to mention one of the main rivalry games of the season for both squads.

Match-up: Texas Tech Red Raiders at Texas Christian Horned Frogs
Venue: At Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas
Time/TV: Thursday, October 11, 7:30 PM ET ESPN
Line: TCU -7, Over/Under 62
Last Meeting: 2017, TCU (-7) 27, at Texas Tech 3

This line on this game was released late with questionable quarterback situations for both teams. Since the ?West Texas Championship? renewed on an annual basis in 2012 these squad have each won the Saddle Trophy three times with the road team now winning the past three years.

Both TCU and Texas Tech are knotted at 1-1 in league play and while West Virginia and Texas are both 3-0 on top of the standings, those teams will need to face off and both have some difficult hurdles remaining as it is still a wide-open race for a spot in the Big XII title game. The Big XII has Texas back in the national spotlight rising to the top 10 of the polls but the conference as a whole is likely clinging to a long shot 13-0 run for West Virginia in regard to the national playoffs with Oklahoma upset last week.

TCU looked the part of a Big XII contender and possible national sleeper with a 2-0 start and an 8-point lead over Ohio State well into the third quarter in a big mid-September game in Arlington. The Buckeyes scored three touchdowns in four minutes to send TCU?s season spiraling in the other direction. The Frogs lost to the Texas the following week with a combined seven turnovers in those two defeats before getting back on track in late September with a narrow 17-14 victory hosting Iowa State.

A critical sixth season for Kliff Kingsbury coaching his alma mater started poorly with a 24-7 1st quarter deficit against Ole Miss in Houston on the opening Saturday, with starting quarterback McLane Carter injured. Freshman Alan Bowman was handed the offense from there and posted big numbers including leading notable wins over Houston and Oklahoma State. Bowman was seriously injured and hospitalized after taking a hit in the 42-34 loss to West Virginia with the Red Raiders down to sophomore Jett Duffey for the duration of that game. All three quarterbacks may be available for this week?s game.

For TCU sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson has had mixed results with six interceptions in four FBS games but offering big play potential in the air and on the ground. Robinson was injured late in the win over Iowa State with a shoulder issue on his non-throwing arm and while he has been cleared to return, Gary Patterson has hinted that he may not start this week with sophomore Michael Collins likely to play in the game as well. Collins has only thrown 14 passes this season and not in any meaningful moments.

Texas Tech was anticipating being a stronger defensive team this season as after years of being consistently involved in shootouts, the Red Raiders improved dramatically in the defensive numbers last season. This year the positive gains haven?t been there despite an experienced unit led by linebacker and future NFL draft pick Dakota Allen. Texas Tech has allowed nearly 450 yards per game and 31 points per game including allowing 42 or more points in three of four FBS games.

Patterson has a reputation for defense and this year?s team has allowed fewer than 21 points per game, holding three of five foes to 14 or fewer points. Texas and Ohio State combined to score 71 points against the Horned Frogs but a 7-0 turnover deficit in those games contributed significantly. TCU has only surrendered 178 passing yards per game this season and that will be the key matchup against a Red Raiders offense averaging 408 passing yards per game. TCU is 14th nationally allowing only 5.7 yards per pass attempt while Texas Tech has allowed 7.7 yards per pass attempt although opposing quarterbacks have completed below 56 percent of throws against both teams.

With Oklahoma up next this is a critical spot for TCU as a 1-3 Big XII start would be realistic with a loss this week. TCU will still have to play in Morgantown in November as a bowl bid could even be cast into a doubt for a squad that was projected to compete for a Big XII title after being the runner-up last season. The stakes may be higher for Texas Tech who still has Iowa State, Oklahoma, and Texas on the schedule. If the Red Raiders fall to 3-3 overall this week they might be in line for another dramatic run in late November with Kingsbury in danger of missing a bowl game for the third time in six seasons.

Last season: TCU was 8-2 heading to Lubbock last November in the game following a 38-20 loss at Oklahoma. The Horned Frogs turned in a great performance with a 27-3 win on the road. The defense did the heavy lifting as TCU managed only 289 yards of offense and led just 10-3 late in the third quarter. TCU completed only six passes in the game in what was Robinson?s first career start and then added a late defensive score. That loss left Texas Tech at 5-6 but they beat Texas in the season finale to earn a bowl bid. The three-point showing was the lowest output for Texas Tech since losing 12-3 at TCU in 2006.

Historical Trends:

Texas Tech is 14-8 S/U and 14-10 ATS in this series since 1980, covering in 13 of the past 19 meetings.

TCU has won S/U in three of the past four games but has lost S/U and ATS in two of the past three home games in the series.

Georgia prepares to face Top 25 gauntlet

ATLANTA (AP) The first half of the season was a breeze for No. 2 Georgia.

No daunting opponents. No game closer than two touchdowns.

Now the real season begins.

The Bulldogs must run a gauntlet of four straight games against Southeastern Conference opponents currently ranked in the Top 25, beginning with Saturday's trip to No. 13 LSU.

''Anytime you go on the road in the SEC, it's an adventure,'' coach Kirby Smart said. ''We're going to play some good teams coming up, absolutely. It's tough everywhere in the SEC. Go talk to Tennessee and ask them the road they're dealing with. Go talk to LSU - they just played Florida . I mean, there's no time to cry about it. Nobody wants to hear that. You gotta get ready to go play.''

Coming off a trip to the national championship game, Georgia (6-0, 4-0 SEC) has yet to be seriously challenged .

But beating teams like Austin Peay and Vanderbilt by an average of nearly 30 points a game makes this a rather mysterious team. Even this deep into the season, no one is quite sure how the Bulldogs will react when inevitably faced with an opponent that can match up with them physically and hang around well into the second half.

''We just know that from this point going forward we need to be on our A game, because this is our meat of our schedule,'' receiver Terry Godwin said. ''We haven't played our best yet.''

Making this stretch even more challenging: only one game is between the hedges.

After traveling to LSU (5-1, 2-1), Georgia has an off week before heading to Jacksonville for their Cocktail Party game against No. 14 Florida (5-1, 3-1). That's followed by another true road game at No. 18 Kentucky (5-1, 3-1), before the Bulldogs finally return to Sanford Stadium to host No. 21 Auburn (4-2, 1-2).

If the Bulldogs get through all that unscathed, they'll almost surely head to the SEC championship game with a perfect 12-0 record. The final two games are both at home against lowly Massachusetts and state rival Georgia Tech.

''Every week, the team gets better, they get more experience,'' tight end Isaac Nauta said. ''Obviously, we've got a tough stretch up ahead with a lot of good opponents, but our preparation's not going to change. If anything, we're going to push harder because we know the competition's going to get better. It's exciting knowing you're going to go into some of these big games and that's what you want to be a part of being a football player.''

Missouri was the only team to remotely challenge Georgia, hanging within striking distance going to the fourth quarter before losing 43-29. In every other game, the final margin was at least 24 points.

That's made it even more important for the Bulldogs to challenge themselves during the week.

''We've been tested,'' Nauta said. ''We believe that some of the best competition we're going to play is in practice.''

This will be Georgia's first trip to Baton Rouge since 2008. While no one on the roster has played in Death Valley, they all have a sense of what they'll be up against in Tiger Stadium's notoriously raucous atmosphere.

''From everything I've heard, it's supposed to be an electric place to play in and they've really got the home-field advantage,'' Nauta said. ''I'm ready to see what it's like.''

Smart already knows. He played there in 1998 during his senior season at Georgia, spent the 2004 season as an LSU assistant, and returned four more times while serving as Alabama's defensive coordinator.

''They have an incredible environment,'' Smart said. ''Their fan base is really second to none in the atmosphere they create from the time you pull in on the buses to play in the stadium. It's an awesome opportunity for our team to play on a national stage. It's an opportunity for a lot of our guys to play in a venue that a lot of Georgia players never got a chance to play in and some in the future won't get an opportunity to play in. So that part is good.''

In some ways, it feels like a season opener for the Bulldogs.

The beginning of the real season, for sure.

''That's why you come to the SEC,'' Smart said. ''You want to run the gauntlet of challenging teams, unbelievable atmospheres on the road. That's what SEC football is all about.''
