Clemson at Boston College
November 9, 2018
By Brian Edwards

Matchup: Clemson at Boston College
Venue: Alumni Stadium, Chestnut Hill, MA
TV/Time: ABC, 8:00 p.m. ET

Clemson will take its undefeated record to Chestnut Hill on Saturday night to face Boston College in a crucial ACC showdown. As of early Friday night, most betting shops had the Tigers installed as enormous 19-point road favorites with a total of 55.5. The Eagles were +800 to win outright (risk $100 to win $800).

While most are focused on Clemson (9-0 straight up, 5-4 against the spread) remaining unbeaten on the way to another College Football Playoff berth, Boston College is hoping to win out and steal the Tigers? spot as the ACC Atlantic?s representative in the conference championship game.

Steve Addazio?s team is 4-1 in ACC play with a road game at FSU and a home scrap with Syracuse in the regular-season finale on deck. Since losing a 28-23 decision at North Carolina State on Oct. 6, BC has ripped off three consecutive wins both SU and ATS. The Eagles are off last week?s 31-21 win at Va. Tech as two-point road underdogs.

Boston College (7-2 SU, 7-2 ATS) trailed 14-7 at halftime in Blacksburg, but it scored 21 unanswered points to take a 28-14 lead with 8:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. After the Hokies responded with a touchdown with 4:48 left, BC put the game away with 2:31 remaining on Colton Lichtenberg?s 28-yard field goal.

A.J. Dillon led the way by running for 96 yards and one TD on 24 carries. Sophomore QB Anthony Brown connected on 15-of-26 throws for 177 yards and one TD without an interception. He also rushed for 37 yards on seven totes, while Travis Levy produced 75 rushing yards and a pair of scores on 11 attempts. Tommy Sweeney caught four balls for 61 receiving yards and Korab Idirizi had two receptions for 49 yards and one TD.

Dillon, a first-team All-ACC selection as a true freshman in 2017, was playing in his second game after missing back-to-back contests with a sprained ankle last month. He rushed 32 times for 149 yards and one TD in his initial return on Oct. 26 when BC dropped Miami, 27-14.

Dillon has rushed for 897 yards and eight TDs, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Ben Glines has 376 rushing yards and three TDs with a 5.6 YPC average. Glines also has nine receptions for 123 yards and three TDs.

Brown is vastly improved in his sophomore season. His touchdown-to-interception ratio has improved from 11/9 to 16/5. Brown has completed 57.9 percent of his passes for 1,567 yards. Sweeney is his favorite target, hauling in 24 receptions for 230 yards and three TDs. Kobay White has 19 catches for 298 yards and three TDs, while Jeff Smith has 17 grabs for 275 yards and a team-best four TDs.

BC is unbeaten in five home games with a 4-1 spread record. This is the Eagles? second home underdog spot, as they were 3.5-point puppies in the win over the Hurricanes two Fridays ago. During Addazio?s six-year tenure, BC has compiled an 8-8 ATS record as a home 'dog.

Clemson has a 4-0 SU record and a 3-1 ATS mark on the road. As road favorites since Dabo Swinney took over midway through the 2008 season, the Tigers have gone 16-18 ATS.

Swinney?s team has dealt out four straight pimpslaps since needing a fourth-quarter rally to nip Syracuse, 27-23, as a 24-point home favorite back on Sept. 29. Clemson has breezed to victory at Wake Forest (63-3), vs. N.C. State (41-7), at FSU (59-10) and vs. Louisville (77-16), beating the closing spread by 110 combined points.

Trevor Lawrence was named the starting QB over Kelly Bryant on the Monday before hosting The ?Cuse. Bryant elected to transfer and retain a year of eligibility after getting the demotion. Lawrence was knocked out of the game against the Orange with a head injury in the first half.

The true freshman QB has done nothing but deliver since returning the following week at Wake Forest. Lawrence threw for a career-best 314 yards and four TDs without an interception in the beatdown of the Seminoles in Tallahassee. For the season, Lawrence has connected on 65.1 percent of his throws for 1,549 yards with an 18/3 TD-INT ratio.

Tee Higgins has 35 receptions for 514 yards and seven TDs, while Justyn Ross has 22 catches for 476 yards and five TDs. Amar Rodger has 32 grabs for 390 yards and four TDs, and Hunter Renfrow has caught 27 balls for 305 yards and one TD.

Clemson is ranked seventh in the country in total yards, 30th in passing yards, sixth in rushing and fourth in scoring with a 47.8 points-per-game average. The Tigers are four-deep in the backfield with Travis Etienne serving as the featured back. Etienne, a second-team All-ACC pick as a true freshman last season, has rushed for 999 yards and 15 TDs. He has an incredible 8.6 YPC average on 116 attempts.

Lyn-J Dixon has 457 rushing yards, four TDs and an eye-popping 11.1 YPC average. Senior Adam Choice (7.9 YPC) has turned 45 carries into 354 rushing yards and three TDs, while Tavien Feaster has produced 294 rushing yards and four TDs with a 6.3 YPC average. Feaster ran for a season-best 101 yards and two TDs on merely six attempts last week, but he sustained a concussion that has him listed as ?questionable? at BC.

Clemson is ranked fifth in the nation in total defense, 18th at defending the pass, eighth in run defense and fourth in scoring ?D,? holding opponents to 13.3 PPG. This unit is led by a defensive line that?s stocked with future NFL players.

Junior DE Clelin Ferrell, a first-team All-American in 2017, has recorded 31 tackles, 7.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, four QB hurries, two forced fumbles and a pair of passes broken up. Senior DT Christian Wilkins, a third-team All-American in 2016 and a first-team All-ACC pick last year, has produced 29 tackles, 6.5 TFL?s, 2.5 sacks, four QB hurries, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Clemson is second in the nation in TFL?s with 89 and third in sacks with 32. The Tigers are +3 in turnover margin, while BC is +8.

In addition to the iffy status of Feaster, Clemson starting OG Sean Pollard (back) and CB Mark Fields (groin) are listed as ?questionable.? Dillon?s ?probable' status is the extent of BC?s injury report.

The ?over? is 5-4 overall for the Tigers, 4-0 in their road assignments. They?ve seen their games average combined scores of 61.1 PPG.

The ?over? has hit at a 5-4 overall clip for the Eagles, going 4-1 in their home contests. They?ve watched their games average combined scores of 61.3 PPG.

Clemson has won seven games in a row over BC, but the Eagles are 4-1 ATS in the past five head-to-head encounters. The Tigers captured a 34-7 victory last year, but they were unable to cover as 33.5-point home ?chalk.? This was an extremely misleading final, too, as the game was knotted at 7-7 until Choice scored on a six-yard TD dash with 11:59 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Etienne rushed for 113 yards and two TDs on nine carries, while Renfrow had six receptions for 53 yards. Dillon was held to 57 rushing yards and one TD on 18 attempts. Brown completed just 14-of-30 throws for 133 yards with one interception.

According to weather.com as of early Friday evening, Saturday night?s forecast was calling for clear conditions and temperatures in the 30s. However, winds are expected at speeds of 10-20 miles per hour and ?could occasionally gust over 40 mph.?

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Eastern on ABC.

Colorado 5-4 2-4 5-4 3-6
Southern California 5-4 4-3 3-6 5-4
UCLA 2-7 2-4 3-6 5-4
Utah 6-3 4-3 5-4 5-4

UCLA at Arizona State (No national TV, 2:00 p.m. ET)

The Bruins are not going to be eligible for a bowl, so it will be interesting to see how they respond in their first game since losing a seventh. Will they have pride down the stretch and play hard, relishing in the role of spoiler? Or will they mail it in? The Sun Devils are double-digit favorites in this one, as they're very much still alive for a spot in the postseason, as well as the Pac-12 Championship Game. Technically, UCLA could still wiggle their way into the title game if things break a certain way, but they likely squandered their chance last week. UCLA is 2-5 ATS in the past seven league games and 3-8 ATS in their past 11 road outings. The Sun Devils are 4-1 ATS in their past five home games and 6-2 ATS in the past eight inside the conference. The 'over' has connected in four of the previous five battles in this series.

Washington State at Colorado (ESPN, 3:30 p.m.)

The Cougars head to Boulder looking to add to Colorado's woes. They're on a four-game losing streak, and the troubles of the Buffs has coincided with the absence of Laviska Shenault Jr., who has missed four games due to injury. He is considered a game-time decision, and could give Colorado a huge boost if he plays. Washington State escaped with a win against Cal last week, and it was their first time in nine games where they failed to cover the spread. They're 4-0 ATS in their past four road games and 5-1 ATS in the past six against winning teams. Colorado is 3-8-1 ATS in their past 12 against winning sides, and 5-11-1 ATS in the past 17 games inside the conference. The over has been a popular result for both sides. The over is 18-5 in Washington State's past 23 on the road, and 7-2 in their past nine against winning teams while hitting in six of the past eight in the conference. While the under is 10-2 against a team with a winning record, the over is 5-2 in their past seven at home.

Oregon at Utah (Pac-12 Network, 5:30 p.m.)

Utah suffered a disappointing loss last week, but they are still in OK shape for the Pac-12 South title. They need to keep winning. Unfortunately for Utah, they have a tough Oregon team paying a visit to Rice-Eccles this week. Someone is gonna be left shaking their head with a fourth loss, as the Pac-12 continues to cannibalize itself. Oregon enters 3-7 ATS in the past 10 games overall, and 1-6 ATS in their past seven on the road. Utah is 4-1 ATS in their past five in the league, 4-1 ATS in the past five at home and 21-8-1 ATS in the past 30 against winning teams. They're also 4-1 ATS in the past five after a straight-up loss. In this series, the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings with the road team cashing in four of the past five. The over has also hit in five of the past six in the series.

Oregon State at Stanford (No national TV, 9:00 p.m.)

The Beavers are done in terms of the bowl picture, but they could play spoiler and really take a lot of money out of the pocket of Stanford with a win on 'The Farm'. Vegas isn't expecting that, as the Cardinal are favored by as many as 24 points at some shops as of late Friday night. The Beavs are 3-8 ATS across the past 11 games, and 1-9 ATS over the past 10 inside the league. They're also 1-5 ATS in the past six overall. Stanford has not been their usual dominant self, but they're still 19-7-1 ATS in the past 27 against teams with a losing record and 5-2 ATS in the past seven inside the league. While the under is 12-5 in the past 17 meetings in this series, the over is the play lately for both. The over is 10-1 in the past 11 on the road for OSU, 10-3 in their past 13 overall and 7-3 in the past 10 league games. The over is 5-1 in the past six overall for Stanford, too.

California at Southern California (ESPN, 10:30 p.m.)

Cal hits the road for USC, and someone is going home with a fifth loss. Vegas expects it will be the Golden Bears limping home, as the Trojans are a slight favorite at home. However, Cal is 5-1 ATS in the past six road outings and 6-2 ATS in the past eight against winning sides. They're also a perfect 5-0 ATS in the past five in November. USC has liked November lately, too, going 7-1-1 ATS in the past nine in the month, but they're just 5-15-1 ATS in the past 21 overall and 1-5 ATS in the past six at home. The under is 5-0 in Cal's past five, 6-0 in their past six on the road and 5-0 in the past five inside the league. The over is 4-1 in the past five at home for USC and 7-3 in their past 10 against winning teams, but the under is 6-1 in their past seven at home against the Golden Bears. The road team is 15-7 ATS in the past 22 meetings, but the Golden Bears are just 2-7 ATS in the past nine in this series.

SEC Notebook - Week 11
November 9, 2018
By Brian Edwards

Vanderbilt at Missouri**

-- As of early Friday night, most betting shops had Missouri (5-4 straight up, 5-4 against the spread) favored by 16 points with a total of 63. The Tigers were 17-point ?chalk? on Wednesday and the total was 62, so there?s been a little bit of line movement. The Commodores were +600 on the money line (risk $100 to win $600).

-- Barry Odom?s team is 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS at home this season. Mizzou has gone 2-0 ATS as a double-digit favorite.

-- Missouri picked up its first SEC win of the season last week by going to The Swamp and destroying the Gators 38-17 as a 6.5-point road underdog. The Tigers were led by Drew Lock, who had an abysmal 1/5 touchdown-to-interception ratio in his team?s first four SEC games. Lock completed 24-of-32 passes for 250 yards and three TDs without a turnover against the Gators. I don?t think the return of top target Emanuel Hall can be overstated. Hall, a first-team All-SEC selection last year, had missed five games in a row before catching four balls for 77 yards and one TD at UF.

-- Lock has completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 2,394 yards with a 19/6 TD-INT ratio. He finished 2017 with a 44/13 TD-INT ratio. The senior signal caller is second in school history in career passing yards with 11,089. With four games remaining, Lock needs to throw for 1,426 more yards to break Chase Daniel?s record. Hall is Lock?s favorite target with 22 receptions for 507 yards and four TDs in just four games played.

-- Mizzou is three-deep in the backfield with Larry Rountree and Damarea Crockett getting the bulk of the load with help from Tyler Badie. Roundtree has 666 rushing yards and nine TDs with a 5.5 yards-per-carry average. Crockett has run for 577 yards and six scores, averaging 4.7 YPC, while Badie has 348 rushing yards, one TD and a 5.0 YPC average.

-- Vanderbilt (4-5 SU, 5-4 ATS) needs two more wins to garner the second bowl bid of Derek Mason?s five-year tenure. After facing Missouri, the Commodores will host Ole Miss and Tennessee. They?ve had two weeks to prep for this spot after winning their first SEC game at Arkansas by a 45-31 count as one-point road favorites. Ke?Shawn Vaughn returned to the lineup to explode for 172 rushing yards and three TDs on 26 carries. Senior QB Kyle Shurmur hit on 13-of-19 throws for 192 yards and two TDs without an interception. Junior TE Jared Pinkney had five catches for 93 yards and two TDs.

-- Vaughn was enjoying a huge game when he was injured in the second quarter vs. Florida on Oct. 13. Vandy led the Gators 21-3 when Vaughn went down and eventually lost a 37-27 decision as a nine-point home underdog. The transfer from Illinois missed the 14-7 loss at Kentucky the following week. For the season, Vaughn has rushed for 667 yards and eight TDs with a 6.8 YPC average. He also has seven catches for 131 yards and one TD.

-- Shurmur is one of the SEC?s top QBs who I believe has a future in the NFL, where his father is the head coach of the New York Giants (for now). Shurmur has completed 60.0 percent of his passes for 2,037 yards with a 14/5 TD-INT ratio. He?s been the victim of many drops from a young group of wideouts. Shurmur has two extremely talented targets in Pinkney and New Orleans native Kalija Lipscomb, who has 58 receptions for 632 yards and six TDs. Pinkney has 30 catches for 485 yards and five TDs.

-- Vandy has lost outright in three of four road assignments, but it has produced a 3-1 spread record. Since Mason took over in 2014, the Commodores have been excellent as double-digit underdogs with a 13-8 spread record. They?re 2-1 ATS in three such spots this season. As a road underdog of any amount during Mason?s tenure, Vandy has compiled a 12-11 ATS mark.

-- The ?under? is 6-3 overall for the Commodores, 3-1 in their four road assignments. They?ve seen their games average combined scores of 50.7 PPG.

-- The ?over? is 5-3-1 overall for the Tigers, 3-1-1 in their home outings. They?ve seen their games average combined scores of 63.3 PPG.

-- The SEC Network will have the telecast at noon Eastern.

**South Carolina at Florida**

-- Much of the speculation in Gainesville this week had been about who would be under center for the first snap at the quarterback position. That conundrum is no longer in play after third-year sophomore QB Kyle Trask broke his foot at Wednesday?s practice. Trask, who looked sharp in relief of Feleipe Franks in last week?s 38-17 home loss to Missouri, will miss the rest of the season.

-- Trask promptly marched UF down the field for a TD drive when he was inserted in place of the ineffective Franks. He completed 10-of-18 passes for 126 yards and one TD without an interception. Franks had struggled mightily against the Tigers, hitting on just 9-of-22 throws for 84 yards. So just when Trask appeared to be on the cusp of his first career start, his entire season is over. Franks will be backed up by true freshman Emory Jones, who UF head coach Dan Mullen still plans on redshirting. Jones has played in two games so, per the new redshirt rules, he can play in two of the Gators? four remaining games. This means that WR Kadarius Toney, who was an elite QB at the prep level and threw a TD pass in his only attempt this year at Mississippi State, will have to be the back-up QB in two of UF?s remaining contests.

-- As of Friday, most betting shops had Florida (6-3 straight up, 6-3 against the spread) installed as a six-point home favorite with a total of 54. The Gamecocks were +200 on the money line.

-- Since starting the season 6-1 both SU and ATS, UF has lost back-to-back games by lopsided margins vs. Georgia (36-17) and vs. Missouri. On the flip side, USC has won consecutive contests vs. Tennessee (27-24) and at Ole Miss (48-44). Trailing the Rebels by 10 early in the fourth quarter last week, the Gamecocks scored 14 unanswered points on a three-yard TD run by A.J. Turner and four-yard scoring scamper by Jake Bentley to secure the outright victory as two-point road underdogs.

-- South Carolina (5-3 SU, 4-4 ATS) and UF have both been eliminated from the SEC East race. Both schools are sitting at 4-3 in SEC play, making this a battle for third place in the division. Will Muschamp?s squad has won two of three road assignments both SU and ATS this year, while the Gators are 3-2 both SU and ATS in five home games.

-- South Carolina is on a 6-1 ATS roll in its past seven road contests. When listed as a road underdog on Muschamp?s watch, USC is 6-4 ATS. However, the Gamecocks have covered the number in their past five such spots with three outright wins.

-- Muschamp has faced his former team twice since taking over in Columbia. Florida won a 20-7 decision as a 12.5-point home favorite in 2016, with the 27 combined points dropping ?under? the 38-point total. Jordan Scarlett led the Gators with 134 rushing yards on 20 attempts. Jake Bentley, then a true freshman making his fourth career start, completed 18-of-33 passes for 213 yards with one interception. Deebo Samuel had four receptions for 53 yards, while Bryan Edwards had two catches for 37 yards.

-- In last year?s rematch at Williams-Brice Stadium, USC captured a 28-20 victory as a 4.5-point home ?chalk.? The 48 combined points slipped ?over? the 41.5-point total thanks to a UF score with 3:43 remaining. The Gamecocks enjoyed a 24-12 advantage in first downs and a 469-301 edge in total offense. Bentley threw for 249 yards, but he was intercepted three times to keep UF in the game. He did run for a pair of TDs, however, but he has a 0/4 touchdown-to-interception ratio in two games against UF. Turner produced 136 yards on 22 carries and Mon Denson ran for 61 yards and two TDs on 13 attempts. Turner also caught three balls for 36 yards, while Edwards had three receptions for 48 yards. Franks was yanked after completing only 10 of his 25 passes for 174 yards with one interception.

-- The road team is 3-1-1 ATS in the past five games in this rivalry. The ?under? is 4-1 in the last five head-to-head meetings.

-- Totals have been an overall wash for USC (4-4), with the ?under? going 2-1 in its three road outings. The Gamecocks, who have seen the ?under? cash at a 4-2 clip in their past six contests, have seen their games average combined scores of 58.9 points per game.

-- Totals have been an overall wash for the Gators (4-4-1), too. The ?under? is 3-2 in their five home games. UF has seen its games average combined scores of 51.7 PPG.

-- Trask is the only new injury for Florida. The same can?t be said for the Gamecocks, who are dangerously thin in the secondary after losing two more safeties to season-ending injuries last week. Those players would be Jaymest Williams and Javon Charleston. Williams had recorded 32 tackles, two passes broken up, one tackle for loss and one interception.

-- Junior RB Rico Dowdle and senior LB Bryson Allen-Williams are listed as ?questionable? at UF. Dowdle has rushed for 495 yards and three TDs with a 5.1 yards-per-carry average, but the Gamecocks have excellent depth at RB with Turner, Denson and Ty?Son Williams.

-- ESPN will provide television coverage at noon Eastern.

**Mississippi State at Alabama**

-- Nick Saban?s dynastic 12-year run at Alabama continued last week, as he tortured his former team yet again in a 29-0 win at LSU as a 14.5-point road favorite. The Crimson Tide beat the Tigers for the eighth straight time since losing a 9-6 decision at home in overtime of the 2011 season. It was a dominant performance with ?Bama enjoying a 29-13 advantage in first downs and a 576-196 edge in total offense. The Tide ran for 281 yards with a 7.6 YPC average, while LSU was held to 12 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Tua Tagovailoa completed 25-of-42 passes for 295 yards and two TDs, but he was intercepted for the first time this year. He had a 44-yard TD run as well, while Damien Harris produced 107 rushing yards and one TD on 19 carries. Jerry Jeudy had eight receptions for 103 yards.

-- As of Friday, most spots had Alabama (9-0 SU, 6-3 ATS) listed as a 23-point home favorite with a total of 52.5. The Bulldogs were +1200 to win outright (risk $100 to win $1,200).

-- Alabama owns a 9-0 spread record in the first half this year. Most books had the Tide favored by 14 points over Mississippi State for first-half bets on Friday.

-- Alabama is unbeaten in four home games with a 2-2 spread record.

-- Tagovailoa has completed 68.0 percent of his passes for 2,361 yards with a 27/1 TD-INT ratio. He?s rushed for 172 yards and three TDs, averaging 5.9 YPC. Jeudy has 39 receptions for 880 yards and 10 TDs, while Jaylen Waddle has 25 catches for 501 yards and three TDs. Henry Ruggs has 28 catches for 499 yards and eight TDs, and Irv Smith Jr. has caught 25 balls for 448 yards and six TDs. Waddle is also a factor on special teams, averaging 14.6 yards per punt return.

-- Alabama?s leading rusher, Najee Harris, is listed as ?questionable? due to an ankle injury. He has run for 572 yards and four TDs with a 6.8 YPC average. Back-up QB Jalen Hurts is also a question mark due to an ankle sprain. Hurts has completed 39-of-53 throws (73.6%) for 589 yards with a 5/2 TD-INT ratio. Hurts has run for 136 yards and one TD with a 4.9 YPC average. Damien Harris has 542 rushing yards, six TDs and a 6.2 YPC average.

-- Mississippi State (6-3 SU, 6-3 ATS) led nearly the entire game against Alabama in Starkville last season, only to see a fourth-quarter lead evaporate in a 31-24 loss as a 14-point home underdog. Hurts found Devonta Smith for a 26-yard scoring strike with 25 ticks remaining to lift his team to victory. Damien Harris ran for 93 yards and one TD on eight carries, while Hurts and Josh Jacobs also had rushing scores. Nick Fitzgerald rushed for 66 yards and one TD on 21 attempts for MSU. He completed 13-of-24 passes for 158 yards without committing a turnover.

-- Joe Moorhead?s club has won three of its past four games both SU and ATS, including last week?s 45-3 win over La. Tech as a 23-point home favorite. After dropping back-to-back games at Kentucky (28-7) and vs. Florida (13-6), MSU responded with a 23-9 victory over Auburn as a three-point home underdog. Then after a 19-3 loss at LSU, the Bulldogs collected consecutive wins vs. Texas A&M (28-13) and La. Tech.

-- Fitzgerald has completed only 50.8 percent of his passes for 1,252 yards with a 10/7 TD-INT ratio. He does his best work with his legs, producing a team-best 839 rushing yards and nine TD with a 5.4 YPC average. Kylin Hill, who is listed as ?questionable? at ?Bama due to an ankle injury, has run for 536 yards and three TDs while averaging 6.6 YPC. WR Osirius Mitchell is also a question mark due to an undisclosed injury. Mitchell has a team-best 20 receptions for 347 yards and three TDs.

-- MSU is 1-2 both SU and ATS on the road this year. The Bulldogs are just 13-19 ATS in 32 games as road underdogs since the start of the 2008 campaign.

-- The ?under? is 7-1 overall for MSU, 3-0 in its road contests. The Bulldogs have seen their games average combined scores of 41.4 PPG.

-- The ?under? is 8-2-1 in the past 11 head-to-head meetings in this rivalry, but the ?over ?has hit in back-to-back encounters.

-- If the number holds at around 52.5 or 53 points, it?ll be Alabama?s second-lowest total of the year (51.5 last week at LSU is the lowest). The Tide has watched the ?over? go 6-3 overall, 4-1 in its home outings. Their games have averaged combined scores of 65.4 PPG.

-- CBS will have television coverage at 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

**Auburn at Georgia**

-- As of Friday night, most books had Georgia (8-1 SU, 5-4 ATS) listed as a 13.5-point ?chalk? with a total of 52.5. The Tigers were +450 on the money line (risk $100 to win $450).

-- Kirby Smart?s team clinched the SEC East with last week's 34-17 win at Kentucky as a 9.5-point road favorite. The 51 combined points elevated ?over? the 47.5-point total. De?Andre Swift erupted for 156 rushing yards and two TDs on 16 carries, while Elijah Holyfield ran for 115 yards and one score on 18 attempts.

-- UGA is undefeated in four home games with a 2-2 spread record.

-- Sophomore QB Jake Fromm has completed 67.7 percent of his throws for 1,762 yards with a 17/4 TD-INT ratio. His favorite target is Riley Ridley, who has 30 catches for 411 yards and five TDs.

-- Holyfield has rushed 674 yards and five TDs with a 6.5 YPC average. Swift has produced 622 rushing yards, seven TDs and a 6.3 YPC average.

-- Auburn (6-3 SU, 4-5 ATS) is 1-1 both SU and ATS on the road this year.

-- Trailing 24-14 with 5:14 remaining last week at home, Auburn got a Chandler Cox one-yard TD run to trim the deficit to three. Then with 1:41 left, Jarrett Stidham found Seth Williams for an 11-yard TD pass to cap the comeback win. The Tigers covered for most bettors as the line closed at 3.5 in most betting shops. The 52 combined points jumped ?over? the 47-point total. Stidham threw for 239 yards and two TDs without an interception.

-- Stidham has completed 60.6 percent of his passes for 1,953 yards with a 10/4 TD-INT ratio.

-- These schools split a pair of meetings last year with Auburn beating up on UGA by a 40-17 count as a 2.5-point home underdog. The 57 combined points jumped ?over? the 48-point total. However, three weeks later at the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, UGA got even with a 28-7 win as a two-point ?chalk.? The 35 combined points dipped ?under? the 48-point tally. Fromm completed 16-of-22 passes for 183 yards and two TDs without an interception. Swift rushed for 88 yards and one TD on seven carries.

-- Totals have been an overall wash (4-4-1) for UGA, but the ?under? is 4-0-1 in its home games. The Bulldogs have seen their games average combined scores of 54.6 PPG.

-- The ?under? is 6-3 overall for the Tigers, 2-0 in their road contests. They?ve watched their games average combined scores of 45.7 PPG.

-- Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Kentucky will be in bounce-back mode when it travels to Knoxville to face Tennessee. As of Friday night, most books had UK installed as a five-point favorite with a total of 41. This game will kick at Neyland Stadium 3:30 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network.

-- Texas A&M will play host to Ole Miss at noon Eastern on CBS. The Aggies were 11.5 or 12-point home favorites at most books Friday, while the total was 67.

-- LSU will try to get back on track at Arkansas for a 7:30 p.m. Eastern kick on the SEC Network. Most books had the Tigers favored by 11.5 points with a total of 48.5.

Burning Questions - Week 11
November 10, 2018
By Tony Mejia

Saturday

Ole Miss at Texas A&M (-13.5/67.5), 12 p.m. ET:
Can SEC passing leader Jordan Ta'amu feast on a vulnerable A&M secondary? Will an inability to move as liberally as he normally does due to a foot injury suffered vs. South Carolina last week hinder the Rebels offense? How will Ags QB Kellen Mond rebound from his worst performance of the season? Will blowing a fourth-quarter lead at Auburn linger? If Mond's accuracy issues linger, how quickly wil Jimbo Fisher turn to backup Nick Starkel? Can Trayveon Williams take some pressure off the passing game early by getting off to a good start as he seeks out a sixth 100-yard rushing game?

BYU (-14/57) at UMass, 12 p.m. ET: Who will 35 mile-per-hour wind gusts wind up bothering most since the Minutemen are used to inclement weather? Can UMass continue to flourish via WR Andy Isabella and short passses? Will BYU bounce back after averaging just 11 points over its last two games to hold serve as a road favorite and remain bowl eligible?

Navy at UCF (-24/65.5), 12 p.m. ET: Are the Knights prepared well enough to face the triple option to let their edge in athleticism do the heavy lifting defensively? Can UCF win a 22nd straight contest convincingly enough to move up in the CFP rankings after last week's conquest of Temple failed to help them move up from No. 12? Will Navy be motivated to spoil Homecoming after UCF snapped the Midshipmen's 17-game home winning streak in last season's first meeting between the programs? Is QB McKenzie Milton healthy again?

TCU at West Virginia (-12/55.5) at Maryland, 12 p.m. ET: Will the possibility of snow and wind gusts in Morgantown derail the terrific Will Grier-led passing attack? Will Dana Holgorsen's Mountaineers be foiled by Gary Patterson's crew for the fourth time in five seasons? Can TCU do enough offensively behind inexperienced backup QB Mike Collins, who barely completed half his passes in last weekend's loss to K-State? Will the Frogs' offense be better equipped to survive the loss of dismissed star WR/KR KaVontae Turpin than they were on short notice last week?

Kansas at Kansas State (-10/46.5), 12 p.m. ET: Is this the season where the Jayhawks have improved enough to end a run of 10 straight Sunflower Showdown setbacks? Will Skylar Thompson be available to play QB after suffering an apparent head injury last week or will this be the Alex Delton show for K-State? After rescuing its bowl hopes by taking down TCU, is this part of a late run to salvage Bill Snyder's streak of bowl appearances? Can RBs Pooka Williams and Khalil Herbert keep the offense in sound down-and-distance situation to fuel an upset bid?

Akron at Eastern Michigan (-11.5/42), 12 p.m. ET:
Which of these .500 teams will be able to move one step closer to bowl eligibility, which has historically not been a given for either program before current head coaches Terry Bowden and Chris Creighton got to town? After Zips QB Kato Nelson left last week's loss to NIU with an ankle injury, is redshirt freshman Alex Ramart ready to take over and pick up a road win? With Mike Glass III nursing an injury himself, can Tyler Wiegers continue to play clean ball from the pocket to complement the Eastern Michigan defense? Although snow should stay away, which team will handle windy, freezing weather best?

Maryland at Indiana (-1/55), 12 p.m. ET: Do the Terps have enough in the tank in what's been a draining, emotional year to secure a bowl berth here since remaining games against Ohio State and Penn State aren't likely to produce wins? Can the Hoosiers get to .500 and give themselves a chance to improve on last year's 5-7 finish despite games at Michigan and home against Purdue remaining? After last week's demoralizing loss in Minnesota sent many IU fans hopping off the bandwagon with hoops season now here, will there be enough support for the home team in freezing Bloomington? Will Maryland RB Ty Johnson make it back from a calf injury or will it be the Anthony McFarland show in the backfield?

SMU (-18.5/66.5) at UConn, 12 p.m. ET: Can ISU star running back David Montgomery, the Big 12's rushing leader, pick up his fifth 100-yard game in a row? Does KU freshman RB Pooka Williams continue striking a blow for the Jayhawks with his ability to break big gains? Coming off an upset of TCU, will the Jayhawks have the requisite confidence to flirt with another upset? WIll Cyclones freshman QB Brock Purdy continue his emergence by again hooking up with standout WR Hakeem Butler?

Wisconsin at Penn State (-8/53.5), 12 p.m. ET: How will snow flurries and wind gusts affect Penn State's big play passing game since Trace McSorley should be healthy? Can the Nittany Lions avoid slipping under .500 in Big Ten play? How will Jack Coan fare in his second road start after struggling in his first appearance in Evanston upon taking over for the injured Alex Hornibrook? Can Jonathan Taylor, Taiwan Deal and Garrett Groshek victimize Penn State's run defense, which ranks 10th in the conference (172.2 ypg)? Can the Nittany Lions add to their Big Ten-leading sack total of 29?

Vanderbilt at Missouri (-13.5/63), 12 p.m. ET: Will emphatically pulling off last week's upset of Florida in Gainesville set the Tigers up for a strong finish now that they've finally secured their first SEC win? Will Vandy head coach Derek Mason be able to snap an embarrassing 0-6 run coming off a bye? With Emanuel Hall healthy, will Mizzou be at full strength with TE Albert Okwuegbunam (shoulder) and RB Tyler Badie (foot) listed as questionable? Can Vandy win consecutive SEC road games for tje first time since 2013?

Illinois at Nebraska (-17.5/70), 12 p.m. ET: Can the Illini take advantage of an opportunity to get to .500 in November for the first time since 2014? Will the 'Huskers rise up to at least protect Memorial Stadium in a lost first season under Scott Frost? Can Nebraska improve to 3-2 in games where its favored after dropping its first two at home to Colorado and Troy? Does RB Mike Epstein make it back to try and help Illinois win in Lincoln for the first time since 1929? Can former Husker A.J. Bush continue his steady play at QB to give the Illini a chance?

South Carolina at Florida (-6.5/54), 12 p.m. ET: Can Will Muschamp improve to 2-1 against his former employer by winning in Gainesville for the first time since before his dismissal back in 2014? Can Jake Bentley continue a late-season resurgence against an impressive Gators defense? Will a South Carolina defense that has been victimized by injuries have pass-rushing LB Bryson Allen-Williams in the mix to help take some pressure off a painfully thin secondary? Can Gators QB Feleipe Franks take advantage of his latest opportunity following last week's benching after his replacement, Kyle Trask, was lost to a broken foot?

Tulsa at Memphis (-17/65.5), 12 p.m. ET: Can an improved Golden Hurricane find a way to contain explosive Tigers RB Darrell Henderson, one of four running backs in this game that rank among the AAC's top 15 in yardage gained? Can Tulsa be effective on early downs to stay out of situations where the Tigers can come after QB Seth Boomer? Will the Golden Hurricane follow up racking up a season-high 638 yards with another strong effort after finally snapping a seven-game skid?

Ohio State (-4.5/48), 12 p.m. ET: Will snow slow down a Buckeyes squad that thrives on blocking effectively down field and taking advantage of their speed and athleticism? How will QB Dwayne Haskins handle his first dose of truly inclement weather? Does Ohio State need style points given its poor showing in the latest CFP poll? Will J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber be able to flourish against a Sparty run defense that ranks first in FBS in yards allowed? Will MSU QB Brian Lewerke pay Mark Dantonio back for the confidence he's showing in calling him the unquestioned starter? With top RB L.J. Scott still out and No. 1 WR Felton Davis done with a torn achilles, are there enough weapons in place to hang with Ohio State?

North Carolina at Duke (-9.5/58), 12:20 p.m. ET: There's no question that the "throwing the records out" cliche applies to this rivalry, so will the Tar Heels salavge their season some by doubling their win total with this road upset? Can Duke keep the Victory Bell for the third straight season? Do losses to talented teams by 10 points or fewer over the last month indicate the Tar Heels are finally ready to turn the corner? Will key Duke LB Joe Giles-Harris make it back from a nasty-looking knee injury? How about RB Brittain Brown?

Florida State at Notre Dame (-16.5/50), 7:30 p.m. ET: Will the snow that most in South Bend awoke to on Saturday morning clear out as expected by the time the evening kickoff rolls around? How are the boys from Florida going to handle temperatures dipping into the 30s? Will veteran QB Brandon Wimbush make the most of being able to close out his junior season with a start in the final home game ahead of the injured Ian Book? Can FSU QB Deondre Francois be effective, whether he starts or not, while nursing a rib injury and working behind an offensive line missing multiple starters? Do the 'Noles have a major upset in them or will their final home games (vs. BC and Florida) become must-wins as they look to get bowl eligible?

-Kyler Murray, Oklahoma, passed for 349 yards, ran for 66 and the No. 6 Sooners survived a late two-point conversion attempt to beat Oklahoma State 48-47.

-Taylor Cornelius, Oklahoma State, passed for a career-high 501 yards and three TDs in a 48-47 loss to Oklahoma.

BEDLAM FINISH

Oklahoma escaped again.

And in what the Sooners call ''Championship November,'' nothing is more important.

Kyler Murray passed for 349 yards and ran for 66 and No. 6 Oklahoma survived a late two-point conversion attempt to beat Oklahoma State 48-47. The Sooners continued their push for a Big 12 title and a spot in the College Football Playoff by winning their 15th consecutive November game dating to 2014.

It was another close call - the victory came a week after Oklahoma edged Texas Tech 51-46. The Sooners will take the shootouts as long as they keep getting the best of them.

Oklahoma nearly saw its chances of reaching its goals vanish. Oklahoma State's Taylor Cornelius connected with Tylan Wallace on a 24-yard touchdown pass to cut Oklahoma's lead to one with 1:03 to play. Oklahoma State went for two, but Cornelius threw short and into coverage, Oklahoma's Tre Brown got his hand on the ball and the pass fell incomplete.

---

NUMBERS

17-Straight home wins by Tennessee over No. 12 Kentucky, dating to 1984.

54-Years since Princeton won nine straight games before this season.

804-Total yards by No. 14 Utah in a 62-24 win over San Jose State, becoming the 17th team in NCAA history to have at least 800 yards.

15,181-Career total yards by Samford's Devlin Hodges to break the Southern Conference record.

---

TOREROS' RECORD DAY

San Diego broke a slew of records - and needed every bit of it.

Anthony Lawrence threw for 556 yards and a record-tying seven touchdowns, Michael Bandy set a school record with 324 receiving yards, and San Diego rallied to beat Davidson 56-52 as the Wildcats set an FCS single-game rushing record of 789 yards.

Trailing 52-49 with 1:43 to play, Lawrence hit Bandy on a 20-yard pass for the go-ahead score and the Toreros stopped the Wildcats on downs to win their seventh straight conference game and the Pioneer League championship.

The teams combined for 1,477 yards of total offense, trailing the FCS record of 1,549, and four Davidson rushers had 100-plus yard games. Davidson's 789 total rushing yards is a new FCS record, topping Missouri State's 681 in 1988.

Bandy had four touchdown catches, including a 99-yarder, eclipsing Sam Hoekstra's single-game record of 246 receiving yards against Dayton in 2012. Lawrence tied the school record and conference record for most TD passes in a single game.

Sunday?s List of 13: Wrapping up a college football Saturday

13) Oklahoma 48, Oklahoma State 47? State scored with 1:07 left but went for two points and the lead, maybe because their kicker missed the PAT on their previous TD.

We?ve talked about this couple times already, but I?m not a fan of going for two points and the win, yet every ex-player on TV applauds when a coach does it. There is a time to be conservative, to keep your team on national TV playing an exciting game (recruiting, anyone?!?!?!)

OSU had 39 first downs, gained 640 yards but lost. Entertaining game.

12) Texas 41, Texas Tech 34? Longhorns led 34-17 with 7:00 left, but Tech rallied to tie the game with 1:45 left. Texas then drove the field and threw the GW TD pass with 0:21 left.

11) Northwestern 14, Iowa 10? Wildcats are 0-3 in non-conference games, losing to Duke, Akron and Notre Dame, but they?re 6-1 in conference and clinched a spot in the Big 14 title game with this win. Four of their six conference wins are by four or fewer points; this will be their first-ever appearance in the Big 14 championship game.

Iowa threw 41 passes, ran ball only 22 times, converted 3-13 third down plays; they?ve lost three games in a row after a 6-1 start.

10) Pitt 52, Virginia Tech 22? Panthers won their third game in a row; they had TD plays of 73-78-97 yards, and averaged 13.9 YARDS PER PLAY in this game. Virginia Tech lost its last three games, allowing 44 ppg, and is now 4-5.

9) Old Dominion 34, North Texas 31? Mean Green led 28-0 with 3:00 left before halftime, but let this game get away on the road, slip to 7-3.

8) Florida 35, South Carolina 31? Gamecocks led 31-14 with 16:00 to play, but Florida went on TD drives of 75-89-66 yards to pull out the win and improve to 7-3.

Georgia 27, Auburn 10? Auburn coach Gus Malzahn is in the first year of a 7-year, $49M contract; his Tigers are 6-4 and haven?t played Alabama yet, so they?re going to be 7-5 heading into their bowl game, which won?t be a great bowl (their other game is vs Liberty).

Not going to be a great winter on the plains for coach Gus.

7) Upsets of the Week:
? Wake Forest (+19.5) 27, NC State 23
? Old Dominion (+14.5) 34, North Texas 31
? Minnesota (+12) 41, Purdue 10
? Northwestern (+11) 14, Iowa 10
? Bowling Green (+7) 24, Central Michigan 13

6) Indiana 34, Maryland 32? Terrapins ran ball for 59 times for 353 yards, outgained Indiana by 168 yards but lost- thats what four turnovers (-3) will do to you.

Ohio State 26, Michigan State 6? Buckeyes? punter Drue Chrisman pinned Spartans inside their own 6-yard line five times in the second half; he was interviewed on TV after the game. MSU completed less than half its passes for third time in last five games.

5) UAB 26, Southern Miss 23 OT? UAB didn?t have a football team in 2015-16, but people fought to bring the team back and now in their second year back, the Blazers are 9-1 and are a hell of a story. Good for them.

4) Arizona State 31, UCLA 28? Herm Edwards? Sun Devils are 6-4, become bowl-eligible.

3) Washington State 31, Colorado 7? Coogs ran 94 plays, injury-riddled Colorado ran 54; Buffaloes lost their last five games after a 5-0 start. Wazzu is 9-1 and rolling, in a story that is really interesting, in both happy and tragic ways.

This time last year, Wazzu?s QB was Luke Falk, who is on the Miami Dolphins now. The young man who was penciled in to be his replacement this year (he threw 129 passes off the bench) took his own life after last season, in an unspeakable tragedy.

Gardner Minshew was going to transfer from East Carolina to Alabama, with hopes of being a grad assistant coach in 2019; he knew he would sit the bench in Tuscaloosa this year. But when Washington State needed a QB, Minshew went to Pullman instead and is now having the time of his life. Life is weird sometimes.

2) San Diego 56, Davidson 52? This I-AA game had some interesting stats:
? Davidson ran the ball 73 times for 789 yards, gained 852 TY.
? San Diego was 24-36 passing for 556 yards; they gained 625 TY.
? Toreros averaged 15.4 yards per pass attempt.
? Davidson had three TD runs of 80+ yards, in the first quarter alone.
? Davidson led 31-7 early in the second quarter.
? San Diego threw the game-winning 20-yard TD pass with 1:43 left.

1) Eastern Michigan 27, Akron 7? EMU has a gray football field, much like Boise State has a blue field; when I watch clips of EMU home games on my laptop, it looks like the game is in black-and-white, except for the players. Weird.

Akron had six first downs, four turnovers, only 90 total yards. Eastern is bowl eligible

4th Quarter Covers - Week 11
November 11, 2018
By Joe Nelson

Glancing at the scoreboard won?t tell you the whole story in most games. Here are some of the games that went down to the wire relative to the spread in the fourth quarter last week in the 11th college football weekend.

Each week there are several teams that cover despite not necessarily deserving it, as well as other teams that played much better than the final score shows.

Boise State (+2?) 24, Fresno State 17: As a rare home underdog Boise State trailed 17-3 just after halftime hosting Fresno State in Friday?s big Mountain West contest. A long touchdown drive put the Broncos back within seven late in the third quarter and then the Broncos defense forced a punt. The Broncos then posted another long touchdown drive to tie the game early in the fourth quarter. The defense got a big third down stop near midfield and then for the third consecutive possession went the distance against Fresno State?s great defense to lead 24-17 with nine minutes to go. Fresno State had a 50-yard field goal blocked on its next possession but was able to get the ball right back. The Bulldogs had a new set of downs at the Boise State 28-yard line in the final minutes but took a 3rd down sack and failed on 4th-and-long as Boise State held on.

Texas A&M (-13?) 38, Mississippi 24: After a 96-yard fumble return touchdown Ole Miss led 21-14 in the third quarter but the Aggies tied the game and early in the fourth quarter went up by three with a long field goal. The Rebels missed a tying kick with seven minutes to go from just 22 yards and Texas A&M made it a 10-point game a few plays later. Ole Miss got back within seven with a field goal just after the two-minute mark to seemingly seal the underdog cover but on a short field after the failed on-side kick attempt, Travyeon Williams broke free for a 46-yard touchdown run to put A&M up by 14. Ole Miss would reach the Texas A&M 22-yard-line in the finals seconds but came up empty.

Iowa State (-17) 28, Baylor 14: The Bears wound up out-gaining Iowa State 505-355 and didn?t have a turnover yet they had just seven points entering the fourth quarter, with two early missed field goals a factor. After a third quarter brawl that led to key players on both sides getting ejected, Baylor would add an early fourth quarter touchdown to get within the spread. The Bears couldn?t get any closer as they were stopped on downs inside the 20 on two different late possessions.

Eastern Michigan (-13) 27, Akron 7: After a scoreless third quarter Eastern Michigan led Akron just 10-7 but with the Zips pinned deep the Eagles scored on a short interception return touchdown to lead by 10 and then following another interception, scored seconds later to fly past the favorite spread. Eastern Michigan added another field goal for the 20-point final in a game where Akron wound up with only 90 net yards on offense.

Indiana (-1) 34, Maryland 32: Indiana led 31-15 halfway through the third quarter but Maryland made a valiant comeback, ultimately taking the lead 32-31 with about five minutes remaining and failing going for two after the second touchdown after successfully converting a two-point conversion late in the third quarter. Indiana did just enough to get into field goal range with Logan Justus hitting from 42 yards to give Indiana a two-point edge as a very slight favorite. Maryland crossed midfield on its final possession but fumbled on a sack as the Hoosiers held on.

Duke (-8) 42, North Carolina 35: Both teams had big production in this game but after a high scoring first half Duke settled in defensively and took a 42-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Tar Heels were stopped on downs at the Duke 31 but were able to get the ball back and eventually completed a 16-play touchdown drive to climb within seven with just over a minute remaining. The on-side kick failed and Duke was on the edge of field goal range and opted to go for it on 4th-and-12, ultimately winding up with an interception to give the Tar Heels another shot. North Carolina reached the Duke 39-yard-line before running out of time.

Alabama (-22) 24, Mississippi State 0: This line fell from as high as -26 but Alabama led by just 21 at the and failed to add points in the third quarter. On back-to-back drives Mississippi State went for it on 4th downs near midfield and came up short, handing Alabama good field position and the Tide eventually added a field goal to go up 24-0. With just over a minute to go Alabama had the ball back inside the Mississippi State 10 but ultimately failed to add points going for it on 4th-and-goal.

Air Force (-14) 42, New Mexico 24: A defensive score put the Lobos back in the game trialing by 11 entering the fourth quarter. Air Force fumbled on its next possession to give New Mexico the ball right back but the Lobos couldn?t take advantage. Air Force eventually added a touchdown with 10 minutes remaining to slip past the favorite spread and New Mexico didn?t threaten late.

Florida Atlantic (-17?) 34, Western Kentucky 15: A lot of points were left off the board by Florida Atlantic who led just 17-9 through three quarters despite ultimately posting nearly 600 yards of offense. In the fourth the Owls took control of the game with 10 early points to lead by 18 with this spread at -18 or -18? much of the week before closing at -17?. Western Kentucky would score with about six minutes to go to close to within 12, missing on the two-point conversion. The Owls broke a late 77-yard run to go back up by 19 to pass up the favorite spread.

Old Dominion (+15?) 34, North Texas 31: The Mean Green stormed out to a 28-0 lead in this game, favored by -14 most of the week before a late rise. The Monarchs managed 10 points in the final three minutes before halftime to stay in the game however. Old Dominion scored first in the second half but North Texas hit a field goal to go back up by 14. Old Dominion kept the pressure on with a quick touchdown drive. Then on the next two possessions North Texas had a fumble and then after an Old Dominion field goal trimmed the lead to four points, the Mean Green failed going for it on 4th-and-1 just short of midfield. With 15 seconds to go the Monarchs found the end zone to complete the comeback for a stunning upset.

UL-Lafayette (-13?) 36, Georgia State 22: This was a two-point game through three quarters but the Ragin? Cajuns scored three touchdowns in the first eight minutes of the fourth quarter to lead 36-14, going for two on the third score up by 22 and unable to get it. The spread on this game opened at -13 and reached as high as -14? before settling at -13?. With just over four minutes to go Georgia State completed a 75-yard touchdown drive and down 16 opted to go for two in an important play for many. Aaron Winchester hit Diondre Champaigne for the conversion for a 14-point final margin.

Ohio State (-3) 26, Michigan State 6: The final score looks like a blowout but Ohio State led by just 7-6 late in the third quarter before getting nine points on defense with a safety and a fumble return touchdown in the span of just two minutes bridging the start of the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes added a field goal to go up 19-6 and then scored a touchdown with just over a minute to go to create a misleading 26-6 result.

Clemson (-18) 27, Boston College 7: Boston College scored on an early punt return touchdown to lead 7-3 but Clemson only trailed for a few minutes, getting back in front 13-7 by halftime. The Tigers added a touchdown early in the third quarter and then in the fourth got a punt return touchdown of their own to lead by 20, slipping past the heavy favorite spread.

Utah (-6) 32, Oregon 25: The Utes relied on kicker Matt Gay for five field goals to lead 22-17 through three quarters. The Ducks took a 25-22 lead halfway through the fourth following a blocked punt. Utah would answer as freshman quarterback Jason Shelley led a quick touchdown drive to put Utah up by four, short of the closing number on a spread that climbed from -3 to -6 during the week. Oregon had to go for it on 4th down just past midfield and Utah did enough for Gay to add one more field goal for a seven-point win and favorite cover.

Georgia (-13?) 27, Auburn 10: Auburn led 10-6 late in the second quarter but with a few big breaks Georgia scored two touchdowns in the final three minutes before halftime to lead 20-10 at the break for a huge swing. That edge would hold through a scoreless third quarter before Auburn hit on a 77-yard run to go up by 17. On a meaningless late possession Auburn reach the Georgia 35-yard-line and threw to the end zone on 4th-and-4, getting a pass interference call but the flag was surprisingly picked up and ruled an uncatchable pass to end the game.

Texas (-2) 41, Texas Tech 34: The Longhorns led by seven at the half and by 17 though three quarters and after an exchange of touchdowns Texas still led by 17 halfway through the fourth quarter. Texas Tech added a field goal to get back within two scores and then got an on-side kick and made the most of the opportunity with a touchdown to suddenly trail by only seven. The Red Raiders forced a 3-and-out and scored again in just five plays to tie the game. With still nearly two minutes remaining Sam Ehlinger used his arm and legs to get Texas to the edge of field goal range and with 21 seconds left Lil?Jordan Humphrey made a leaping catch and dove into the end zone for the Texas win.

LSU (-13) 24, Arkansas 17: LSU managed to pull away in the third quarter to take a 24-3 lead but Arkansas climbed back in the game late with an early fourth quarter touchdown and then a score to cut the margin to just seven with still more than five minutes remaining. LSU managed to burn the entire remaining clock and ultimately took a knee at the Arkansas 1-yard-line after Nick Brossette was stopped just short of the goal line.

Stanford (-25) 48, Oregon State 17: The Beavers scored twice right before halftime to trail just 34-17 and they clung to the underdog cover trailing 41-17 through three quarters. The Cardinal added a fourth quarter touchdown to go up by 31 after Oregon State missed a field goal. Oregon State had a late shot to get back within the closing number but failed on 4th down from the Stanford 25-yard-line in the final minute.

Top 25 Notes

-- Another week, another Alabama domination. The good news is that Mississippi State held the Crimson Tide to a season-low 24 points. The bad news is that the Bulldogs managed as many points as you and I. After dominating on offense for the entire season, now the Tide defense has pitched two shutouts in a row. Is there any reason to continue this season, or should be just crowd them champions right now?

-- Michigan rolled up a 76-0 victory in 2016 at Rutgers, and this season's installment of the Wolverines is much more powerful. What would happen? Believe it or not, the Scarlet Knights were tied with the No. 4 Wolverines 7-7 after 15 minutes. Then, the bottom fell out, but they did enough to cover the 36 1/2-point number in a 42-7 loss. The Scarlet Knights are 3-0 ATS across the past three outings.

-- Over the years, Kentucky has been a doormat in the SEC, but this year they were playing for a championship. Last weekend they hosted Georgia in a battle for the SEC East title. They came up short, but surely they wouldn't lose to Tennessee again, would they? The Vols spoiled things for the Wildcats in a big way, 24-7 in their most complete game of the season.

-- Iowa hosted Northwestern as 11-point favorites, looking to keep their hopes alive in the Big Ten West. The Wildcats trailed 3-0 at halftime, but they rallied for a 14-10 road win. After a 1-3 SU start, the Wildcats are 5-1 SU over their past six games while going 4-1-2 ATS across the past seven outings.

Big Five Conference Report (ACC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC)

-- Miami-Florida started the season with huge expectations in a neutral-site game against LSU in Arlington. They were never in that game, but they rallied for five wins in a row. It turns out, they're not very good. They have lost four in a row and they have failed to cover five in a row, slipping to 5-5 SU/3-7 ATS overall. The 'under' has hit in four in a row for the Canes, too. ... Florida State headed to Notre Dame, and the Irish had to turn back to QB Brandon Wimbush due to an injury to QB Ian Book. No problem. The Irish smoked the 'Noles 42-13 to easily cover a 17-point number, moving to 5-1-1 ATS over the past seven with the 'over' 6-1.

-- Indiana hosted Maryland, winning 34-32 to move to 5-5 SU/4-6 ATS. The Hoosiers haven't managed to cover in back-to-back games this season. They're at Michigan next Saturday as they look for the second straight cover. ... Penn State ended the hopes of Wisconsin in the Big Ten West, 22-10. The Badgers have been horrific against the spread, going 0-3 ATS over the past three and 2-8 ATS across the past 10. The 'under' is 3-0 over the past three contests for the Badgers, too. ... Nebraska laid 17 points against Illinois, and at the time it seemed a bit much. The Huskers, already eliminated from bowl contention, roughed up the Illinin to cover the number. The Illini have slipped to 1-4 SU/ATS, failing to secure their fifth win. It's more than likely they'll be home for the holiday like the Wildcats.

-- Kansas covered a 10-point number against rival Kansas State, falling at Bill Snyder Family Stadium by a 21-17 score. The Jayhawks slipped to 3-7 SU, but they're a respectable 5-4 ATS over the past nine outings. ... Bedlam lived up to the hype and then some. Oklahoma held a 34-28 lead at halftime over Oklahoma State, and the game was tied 41-41 late. The Sooners scored a go-ahead touchdown late, leading 48-41, but Cowboys came right back and scored to make it 48-47. HC Mike Gundy elected to go for two late, and the Pokes failed. It was a great game, though, and they easiler covered the 21 1/2. ... Texas Tech was performing in front of the nation for a second consecutive weekend, and they lost another heartbreaker. This time it was Texas nipping them 41-34. There were just 37 points on the board going into the fourth quarter, but 'over' (62 1/2) received a gift with 38 total points in the fourth.

-- California snapped a 14-game losing streak to USC, winning 15-14 in a defensive battle. The Golden Bears are also bowl eligible for the first time in three years, while the Trojans are still waiting to punch their ticket. USC is 1-3 SU ATS across the past four outings, and now they need a win at rival UCLA or against Notre Dame if they want to go bowling. ... Colorado started 5-0 SU, but now they're 5-5 after a 31-7 loss against Washington State. The Cougars moved to 9-1 SU/ATS as the good times continue to roll.

-- Missouri have qualified for a bowl, helping themselves out with a 33-28 win over Vanderbilt. The Tigers are 6-4 SU/5-5 ATS even though they have failed to cover back-to-back games since Sept. 1-8. The 'under' is 3-0 over the past three for Mizzou. ... Florida beat old bud Will Muschamp and South Carolina, 35-31. The Gators opened 6-1 ATS in the first seven, but they're 0-3 ATS over the past three.

Bad Beats

-- ESPN's Scott Van Pelt referenced Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech and someone else last week on his show, as the bad beat kings. The Owls association with bad beats is uncanny. They led 27-15 with less than three minutes go, and they got the ball back with an 18-point number. Then RB Kerrith Whyte Jr. ripped off a 77-yard TD run with 2:19 to go, changing the result to an FAU cover.

-- With a total of 45 1/2, Southern Mississippi tied Alabama-Birmingham 20-20 with 7:09 to go. Neither team was able to boot a game-winning field and save 'under' bettors. USM kicked a field goal, UAB scored a TD and the over bettors were celebrating.

-- Memphis led 47-14 over Tulsa into the final minute with a total of 65 1/2. The Golden Hurricane scored a meaningless touchdown with :11 to go, flipping the under to an over for a tough bad beat.

-- Last, but certainly not least, Mississippi slipped at Texas A&M 38-24. The Rebels were catching 13, and they were tied 21-21 with 4:04 to go in the third quarter. A&M took a 10-point lead, 31-21, with 4:36 to go, and Old Miss booted a field goal wiht 1:51 to take a 31-24 lead. The Aggies recovered the onside kick, and it appeared they'd run out the clock. But for Rebels bettors...they took an awful beat, as Trayveon Williams ripped off a 46-yard TD run 12 seconds later to take a 38-24, changing an Ole Miss cover into a bad beat.

Louisville fires HC Bobby Petrino
November 11, 2018
By The Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Louisville's seven-game skid was bad enough. Worse were the large margins of defeat and opponents' apparent ease in lighting up the scoreboard.

That combination spelled the end of coach Bobby Petrino's second chapter with the Cardinals.

Louisville fired Petrino on Sunday morning with two games left in a spiraling season that includes five blowout losses in which the Cardinals allowed at least 50 points.

The school announced Petrino's dismissal with a statement from athletic director Vince Tyra, who wasn't confident the coach could turn things around next season. He said a new head coach would be chosen soon to restore the program to national prominence.

The AD said at a news conference later that he considered a number of factors in Petrino's status, but noted that the three games since Louisville's bye showed no progress.

''It was clear the players weren't responding,'' he said. ''The coaches' and the players' efforts have to go in the right direction, but I didn't feel it was going that way.''

Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm, a former Louisville quarterback who later became an assistant under Petrino, has frequently been mentioned as the top candidate to replace him. Tyra said he had ''a list in mind'' but didn't want to interfere with potential candidates with the season still in progress.

For now, second-year safeties coach Lorenzo Ward, 51, would coach Louisville on an interim basis.

Also let go were quarterbacks coach Nick Petrino, the coach's son; linebackers coach Ryan Beard and defensive line coach L.D. Scott, Petrino's sons-in-law; and fifth-year director of football operations Andy Wagner.

Louisville (2-8) lost 54-23 at No. 12 Syracuse on Friday night, dropping to 0-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Petrino, 57, departs with a 77-35 mark in two stints with Louisville, including 36-26 since returning in 2014. His exit will be expensive for Louisville, which owes him $14 million under terms of his contract extension signed in April 2016. Tyra said Petrino would receive the full buyout.

The school was left with little choice but to release Petrino with Louisville struggling and sections of empty seats at Cardinal Stadium recently after opening a new north end section in a $63 million renovation project.

Louisville's stunning freefall comes a season after 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson capped one of the program's most remarkable periods under the offense-minded Petrino. Besides becoming the school's first Heisman winner, Jackson had the program as high as No. 3 in The Associated Press Top 25 and within reach of the College Football Playoff at No. 5 that November.

But other than sharing the 2016 Atlantic Division title with Clemson, Louisville wasn't a consistent ACC contender after leaving the Big East.

This season, the Cardinals have failed to beat a Power Five school and needed second-half rallies to beat FCS Indiana State and Western Kentucky.

An offensive falloff was expected following the departure of the dynamic Jackson, who broke numerous school and conference records before being selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of last spring's NFL Draft.

However, Jackson's exit ended up revealing a host of deficiencies as Louisville struggled to score. The Cardinals rank at or near the bottom of several ACC offensive categories and Petrino has shuffled quarterbacks Jawon Pass and Malik Cunningham.

Their defensive weaknesses have been more glaring and left them looking up at the rest of the ACC statistically. The Cardinals have been outscored 291-125 in that span, including a 77-16 thumping at No. 2 Clemson on Nov. 3.

Petrino remained hopeful of improvement, but another lopsided loss ended with him being shown the door.

The Montana native is 119-56 overall in a college career that included stops at Arkansas and WKU. He also coached 13 games with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons in 2007. His career has included a lot of wins and some controversy and hard feelings left behind.

He was 31-9 with Louisville from 2003-06, taking the Cardinals to the Orange Bowl, while also constantly coming up as a candidate for other jobs. He left college for the Falcons and lasted less than a season before taking the Arkansas job.

That ended with embarrassment. He was fired after getting into a motorcycle accident, which exposed an extra-marital affair with an athletic department employee and Petrino's lies to his boss.

Petrino resurfaced at WKU for the 2103 season before Louisville gave him another chance. Then-athletic director Tom Jurich re-hired Petrino as the program transitioned from the Big East to the ACC.

But Jurich is gone as part of the fallout from a series of scandals involving the men's basketball program that also felled Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino.

Petrino is now out as well, leaving Tyra to make his second major coaching hire after basketball coach Chris Mack in March. In the meantime, Ward must close the season on a high note that proved elusive for Petrino and the Cardinals.

''Talent-wise, we've got enough to win with,'' Tyra said. ''There's a lot to build on in terms of skill and I'm excited about that part of it. But we've got to draw it out of them and teach them what it's like to play their (butt) off in a Cardinal uniform.''

Tuesday?s 6-pack

Six interesting games on this week?s college football schedule:

? Stanford (-2) @ California

? Arizona State @ Oregon (-4.5)

? West Virginia (-5.5) @ Oklahoma State

? Boston College (-2) @ Florida State

? Iowa State @ Texas (-3)

? USC (-3.5) @ UCLA

Quote of the Day
?I didn?t have to prove anything. I know I can play. I just had to let our team know that these guys (Patriots) are beatable. ? I know those guys. I know that you be physical with them and let ?em have it and they?ll fold??Hell yeah, it?s personal. When you go cheap, you get your ass kicked.?
Titans? RB Dion Lewis, who is from beautiful Albany, NY

Tuesday?s quiz

in the movie Hoosiers, the climactic basketball scenes were shot in which college?s gym?

Monday?s quiz
Jim Harbaugh was the 49ers? coach the last time they played in the playoffs, in 2013.

Sunday?s quiz
Jimmy Butler played his college basketball at Marquette.

*********************

Tuesday?s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but??.

13) According to people who know such things, Rams-Chiefs? total of 63.5 Monday night in Mexico City will be the highest total in NFL history.

Of the 14 NFL games that have had totals of 58+, 11 games went over, 3 stayed under- the favorite won 13 of the 14 games SU.

Previous highest total was 62 (Rams-49ers in 2000).

12) Before this year?s schedule was made, Rams-Chiefs both requested to play in Denver this past week, to get ready for the high altitude in Mexico City; the NFL obviously turned both teams down. Rams are practicing at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs this week, so they?ll be cold but maybe it?ll help on Monday night.

Rams by the way, appear to be playing a preseason game next summer in Hawai?i.

11) Brook Lopez is a 7-foot center for the Milwaukee Bucks; in his last two games, Lopez is 14-25 outside the arc- he made six treys in the third quarter alone Sunday in Denver.

This is all very strange; in his first eight years in the NBA, Lopez was a combined 3-31 behind the arc, which made sense, the guy is a 7-foot center. But then he worked on his shooting.

In the last three years, here are Lopez? 3-point numbers, in his 9th-11th years in the NBA:
2016-17: 134-387, 34.6%
2017-18: 112-325, 34.5%
2018-19: 39-93, 41.9%

10) Sounds the Baltimore Ravens will ask coach John Harbaugh to take a hike after this season; curious to see what direction they?ll go in from here. Would Harbaugh be a good fit at USC, or is former Cal coach Jeff Tedford (Aaron Rodgers? college coach) the front runner there?

Would the Jets dump Todd Bowles and hire Harbaugh if he was available?

9) Louisville fired football coach Bobby Petrino Sunday morning; this is the Cardinals? first losing season since 2009, but it has been a dreadful season. Louisville lost its last seven games, is 2-8- they?re 1-8 vs spread, so they?ve been non-competitive. Petrino will get $14M to go away; the rich boosters that pay the tab for this stuff must be very impatient people.

News of the firing came during Petrino?s TV show Sunday morning and ran on a crawl on the bottom of the screen, which seems a little bit cold-hearted.

Then again, if Rick Pitino wins his legal claim with Louisville they could owe him $44M, which means the school would owe $56M to coaches?..who don?t work there anymore.

8) First true road game for Duke?s basketball team is on the 8th??..of January. They play five games on neutral courts before then, but zero true road games.

7) New Jersey Giants cut OL Patrick Omameh, who signed a three-year, $15M contract in the offseason; pretty big blunder, but maybe they think signing Jamon Brown off the scrap heap makes up for it, at least partially.

6) Jimmer Fredette scored 75 points in a Chinese League game Sunday; his team lost 137-136. He was 7-10 on the arc, 17-24 inside the arc. wonder how many points his guy scored?

5) Some good news: 48.5% of eligible voters showed up and voted last week, the highest midterm turnout in any election since 1966.

4) Paul Pierce said on TV the other day that Duke could beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is an interesting debate. I would disagree with him on that, but the fact that it is even a debate is sad for Cleveland basketball fans.

3) Florida voted down greyhound racing earlier this month; I went to the dog races couple of times in Florida, never understood why anyone would wager on them. Fun to watch, it was a decent afternoon out, but horse races are a lot more fun.

2) Lions? QB Matthew Stafford turns 31 in February; he is a good player, but this is his 10th year in the NFL and his career playoff record is 0-3. His regular season record is 63-71. He makes $27M a year.

My question is this; if you?re trying to make the Lions better, do you trade Stafford for draft picks and try to strengthen the rest of the team? Stafford could still bring a pretty good haul in a deal- look around, good QB?s aren?t exactly everywhere, or does Detroit commit to Stafford for the rest of his career and hope that suddenly everyone around him starts playing better?

1) West Virginia?s basketball team has a freshman guard from Wisconsin named Jordan McCabe; when the kid was 12 years old, his dribbling skills were so advanced that he appeared with the Harlem Globetrotters one night, and also did his dribbling thing on the Ellen TV show.

Not a lot of people can say they worked for Ellen DeGeneres and Bob Huggins.

NCAA Football Game Preview - Syracuse Orange at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to roll to a victory last week against Florida State without their quarterback, but don?t want to tempt fate with a College Football Playoff berth in their view. If Notre Dame can win its final two games it should have a great shot at making the national championship semifinals, and is expected to have star QB Ian Book back for this weekend?s matchup against the Syracuse Orange.

It is critical for him to be in the fold as Syracuse is ranked 8-2 on the season and nationally ranked. While the Orange isn?t a traditional college football power, it has put together a great year and will be a worthy foe in this one.

Notre Dame is the more talented team and will play at home, so it will be favored, but this will be no cakewalk. The Fighting Irish needs to play well in order to put Syracuse away in NCAA football odds.

This NCAA football game between the Syracuse Orange at Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be held at Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, Indiana at 2:30 p.m ET on Saturday, November 17th, 2018. The game will be nationally televised on NBC.

We'll have NCAA football odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2018 NCAA football season.

Odds Analysis

Notre Dame is listed as the 9-point favorite to pick up this win. A slightly higher percentage of the bettors are backing Syracuse to stay within one possession when the final horn blows and to cover the spread. The scoring total is listed at 61.5 points as the oddsmakers see quite a few scoring chances in this one in NCAA football wagering.

Injury Update

Book hurt his ribs two weeks ago in a victory over the Northwestern Wildcats. He didn?t play at all in the win over Florida State. Notre Dame was fine because backup quarterback Brandon Wimbush stepped up, throwing for 130 yards and three touchdowns while adding 68 rushing yards.

However, Wimbush threw two interceptions and completed less than 50 percent of his passes, reminding fans why the switch to Book was made early in the season despite Notre Dame boasting an undefeated record. The Fighting Irish enters this one at 10-0 and Book should start and play the whole game provided he doesn?t suffer a setback.

Book has thrown for 1,824 yards with 15 touchdowns against only four interceptions on the season and Syracuse will have to handle him in order to have an upset chance.

Key Stat

44.4. That?s the number of points Syracuse is averaging this season. The Orange is hoping its offense can rev up once again in this one, although it won?t be easy against a stout Notre Dame defense. Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey has put together an impressive season, throwing for 2,193 yards with 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Running back Moe Neal has 716 yards and five touchdowns on the ground while the team?s leading receiver is Jamal Custis, who has 748 receiving yards and five scores on the year. Syracuse has scored 40 points or more in each of its victories during its current four-game winning streak.

Free NCAA Football ATS Picks

The Orange is a really tough team that has already hung with No. 2 Clemson on the season and has looked good against tough competition. If this one was at home, Syracuse would be the pick to pull the upset. Notre Dame will be saved by the location but this spread is much too high.

Look for Syracuse to give Notre Dame all it can handle, with the Fighting Irish escaping with the win. The Orange is the easy call to cover this spread as the nine points are too high in NCAA football wagering.

NCAA Football Pick: Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34, Syracuse Orange 31
