Billy Bob Thornton, Friday Night Lights

“That’s unacceptable. I don’t know what got over him. I mean, he’s been an emotional guy, but that kind of thing, that’s just not how we do things. And I was embarrassed by it.”
Brewers manager Pat Murphy, on closer Abner Uribe’s celebration

Wednesday’s Den: Mid-week musings…….

— Pirates 12, Cubs 1
Pirates scored five runs in the first inning.
Esmeryn Valdez hit his second HR in his 4th MLB game.
Cubs have now lost ten games in a row.

— It is still May; the Cubs have two ten-game winning streaks and a ten-game losing streak. Only other team to do that over a full season; the 2017 Dodgers.

— Reds 7, Mets 2
Reds got six runs, 11 hits, 3 walks in five innings off of David Peterson.
Cincinnati bullpen got the last 11 outs, giving up one hit.
Mets have lost five in row, scoring six runs on 25 hits in those games.

— At one point last year, the Mets were 45-24, at the time the best record in the National League. Since then, they are 60-88.

— Rangers 10, Astros 7
Monday night, Texas didn’t get any hits, lost 9-0.
Tuesday night, Texas scored eight runs in the first inning.
Yordan Alvarez homered twice, had four RBI for Houston.

— Angels 10, Tigers 6
Detroit led 6-4 after seven innings.
Vaughn Grissom hit a grand slam, had six RBI.
