Dodgers (-200, 11 ?) at Rockies ? 8:40 PM EST

In spite of losing two of three games at Arizona, the Dodgers (55-27) remain the top team in the National League West as they begin a four-game series at Coors Field. Los Angeles squandered a 3-0 lead in the series opening loss at Chase Field with Clayton Kershaw on the mound in an 8-5 setback on Monday, but the Dodgers rebounded for a 3-2 triumph on Tuesday. Arizona jumped on Los Angeles in Wednesday?s series finale for four runs in the opening inning of an 8-2 blowout, marking the second straight road series defeat for the Dodgers.

Colorado (42-38) returns home from a 5-4 road trip against three division foes, Arizona, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. The Rockies pulled off a three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks before dropping all three at Dodger Stadium this past weekend (more on that in a minute). Colorado captured two of three games at San Francisco, capped off by Wednesday?s 6-3 triumph as a -145 favorite. The Rockies overcame an early 2-0 deficit thanks to a grand slam off the bat of David Dahl, who drove in five runs for Colorado in the win.

The Rockies held their own with the Dodgers last weekend at Chavez Ravine, unfortunately they had no wins to show for it. Los Angeles slipped past Colorado all three times on walk-off homers, extending its winning streak over the Rockies to 11 games since last season. The Dodgers were heavy favorites in all three games, but rewarded run-line bettors with a two-run walk-off shot to win the series opener, 4-2, while hitting a three-run blast to capture the finale, 6-3.

Walker Buehler takes the mound in the opener for the Dodgers, looking to improve on an 8-1 mark and 2.96 ERA. The former Vanderbilt standout struck out a career-high 16 batters in nine innings of last Friday?s 4-2 victory over the Rockies as a -190 favorite, marking his second win against Colorado this season. Since the start of May, Buehler has put together eight quality starts in nine outings, while winning each of his past three starts away from Dodger Stadium.

The Rockies counter with rookie right-hander Peter Lambert, who won his first two career starts against the Cubs, but is winless in his past two appearances. After getting knocked around for eight runs in three innings to the Padres on Father?s Day, Lambert settled down to yield three runs in five innings at Los Angeles last Saturday. Unfortunately, that was one of the walk-off losses suffered by the Rockies as Colorado led, 4-3 until L.A. tied it with a run in the eighth before winning it in the 11th.

Colorado has won six consecutive home series openers, but the Rockies were swept at Coors Field by the Dodgers back in April. The last time the Rockies beat the Dodgers came on September 8 in Denver last season, 4-2. Who was the starting pitcher that night for Los Angeles? It was Buehler, who allowed all four runs, including two homers, one off the bat of Colorado center fielder Charlie Blackmon, who enters Thursday?s contest with only two hits in his past 17 at-bats.

Diamondbacks at Giants (-110, 8 ?) ? 9:45 PM EST

These two NL West rivals are also meeting for the second straight weekend as the venue shifts to Oracle Park in San Francisco. The Diamondbacks (41-41) have won three of their past four since a six-game skid, as Arizona won multiple games in a series against Los Angeles for the first time this season. Arizona not only took the series at Chase Field, but cashed in both opportunities as an underdog, including as a +140 ?dog in Wednesday?s 8-2 blowout.

The Giants (34-45) remain at the bottom of the NL West after dropping two of three games to the Rockies. San Francisco was blanked in the series opener before winning on Tuesday, 4-2 behind Madison Bumgarner?s six strong innings of work. The Giants lost for the sixth time in seven tries in series finales in Wednesday?s 6-3 home setback in spite of grabbing an early 2-0 advantage. San Francisco failed to win a home series for the first time since losing two of three to Los Angeles in early June, while the Giants are playing a series against a division foe for the sixth time in the last seven opportunities.

These two squads hook up last weekend at Chase Field as the Giants picked up a pair of victories in the first two games prior to Arizona winning the finale. San Francisco outscored Arizona, 18-9 in the first two wins, which included an impressive debut from left fielder Alex Dickerson, who knocked out a grand slam and drove in six runs in last Friday?s 11-5 triumph. The Giants captured Game 2 by a 7-4 count as a +115 underdog before the D-backs squeezed out a 3-2 win to avoid the sweep as a -145 favorite.

Former Vanderbilt hurler Tyler Beede makes his seventh start this season for the Giants, as San Francisco owns a 3-0 record in his last three outings. All three victories came in the underdog role against the Padres, Dodgers, and Diamondbacks, as he received a no-decision in last Saturday?s 7-4 win at Arizona. Beede lasted only four innings and gave up four runs as the Giants erased an early 3-0 deficit by scoring five unanswered runs to get the right-hander off the hook.

Alex Young makes his MLB debut for Arizona as the southpaw compiled a 5.79 ERA in eight starts at Triple-A Reno. Young pitched at TCU prior to getting drafted by the D-backs in 2015, as he faces a Giants? squad that owns a 2-6 record in the last eight home games against left-handed starting pitchers. In the past six contests at Oracle Park when facing southpaw starters, the Giants have been limited to two runs or less five times.

This series has been dominated by the road team this season, as the home squad has won only twice in nine meetings. Arizona swept San Francisco in a three-game set in late May, as the D-backs posted 34 runs, including 18 in a series opening 18-2 blowout.

STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTERS

STREAKING

Walker Buehler, Los Angeles Dodgers (8-1, 2.96 ERA, $286): With Hyun-Jin Ryu straight dealing and Clayton Kershaw still doing his thing, it could be easy to overlook Buehler. But don?t, the kid is on fire.

The right-hander has an 0.87 ERA and a ridiculous 0.45 WHIP over his last four starts. He?s also limiting opponents to a .130 on base percentage over that stretch. Buehler and the Dodgers visit the Rockies tonight and we have an in-depth break down in our Game of the Day preview.

SLUMPING

Chase Anderson, Milwaukee Brewers (3-2, 4.70 ERA, $1): Anderson has cooled off after a hot start to the season. The right-hander has been roughed up to the tune of a 7.11 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP over his last four starts. He?ll be a big favorite to bounce back today as the Brewers are -185 home favorites against the visiting Mariners. The total is 10.5.


3 STRIKES

RAYS DURING DAYS

According to a sloppy Google search, rays tend to be more active hunters at night. Perhaps that?s why their baseball brethren struggle when playing under the sun (face it? it?s nature). Tampa Bay enters Thursday?s 1:10 p.m. ET first pitch versus the Minnesota Twins with a 19-20 record in day games on the year. That?s a major decline when compared to the Rays? 26-15 mark in night games. Minnesota, on the other hand, whoops that ass under the sun, with a 25-10 record during the day an averages 5.87 runs per outing in those contests. Tampa is an Even money underdog today.

D-BACKS VS DIVISION

Arizona is coming off a three-game set with the L.A. Dodgers, taking two of those game from the best club the majors. However, the Diamondbacks have struggled overall versus National League West foes, owning a 14-25 record against the division heading into Thursday?s series opener in San Francisco. Those troubles have not only favored those betting against Arizona but also Over backers, with the D-backs going 22-16-1 Over/Under in those divisional battles. Arizona and San Francisco have topped the total in five of their last six meetings, with today?s Over/Under set at 8.5.

JUICED IN JUNE

The Pittsburgh Pirates lineup will be sad to see the calendar turn to July after enjoying a jacked-up June in which the clubs hit a collective .292 ? best in the big leagues ? and averaged 5.8 runs per contest heading into today?s series finale with the Houston Astros. The Bucs collected 14 runs in Wednesday?s blowout win, handling Over bettors their 13th winner of the month. Pittsburgh is 13-7-2 Over/Under so far in June, thanks in part to those red-hot bats but also to a pitching staff leaking a puffy 5.48 ERA. Today?s total is at 9.5 runs.

Phils walk off in 9th to sweep Mets; Rays top Twins in 18

Jean Segura hit a three-run, walk-off homer against Edwin Diaz moments after Maikel Franco hit a tying, two run shot against the closer in the bottom of the ninth inning, and Philadelphia Phillies beat the New York Mets 6-3 Thursday to complete a four-game sweep.

New York's Todd Frazier hit a go-ahead, two-run homer off Hector Neris with one out in the ninth, but the Phillies rallied in the bottom of the inning - their fourth straight win since utility man Brad Miller brought a bamboo plant into the clubhouse as a good-luck charm.

Diaz (1-5) walked Cesar Hernandez to start, and Franco followed with his third homer of the series. He hit go-ahead, two-run homers in each of the first two games. Pinch-hitter Sean Rodriguez walked with one out and advanced to second on Scott Kingery's hard-hit, bad-hop single off Frazier's glove at third.

Segura then slammed his 10th homer into the seats in left. He leaped on his way down the first base line and got mobbed by teammates after circling the bases.

It was Philadelphia's first four-game sweep against the Mets since Aug. 27-30, 2007.

RAYS 5, TWINS 2, 18 INNINGS

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Yandy Diaz hit a sacrifice fly for Tampa Bay in the 18th inning to break a tie that lasted since the second, and the Rays finally pulled away from Minnesota to avoid being swept in a series by the Twins for the first time in 13 years.

Ryan Yarbrough (7-3), the eighth reliever and the 22nd player used by the Rays during the game that lasted 5:42 after rain delayed the first pitch by 57 minutes, threw three scoreless innings for the victory.

After the first eight relievers for the Twins allowed just two hits over a combined 10 innings, Ryne Harper (3-1) faltered in the 18th while pitching for the third straight game and the sixth time in the past 10 days.

CUBS 9, BRAVES 7

CHICAGO (AP) - Craig Kimbrel dodged trouble for a save in his season debut when new teammate Anthony Rizzo dived into first base for the final out, and Chicago rallied from five runs down to beat Atlanta.

Called up from Triple-A earlier in the day, Kimbrel struck out Brian McCann looking and induced a groundout from Johan Camargo to start the ninth inning. Ronald Acuna Jr. then doubled into Wrigley Field's ivy, and Dansby Swanson walked on four pitches. Freddie Freeman grounded sharply down the first base line, and Rizzo fielded and had to dive for the bag to beat Freeman.

Kimbrel earn his 334th career save and did it against his original team. The Cubs finalized a $43 million, three-year contract with 31-year-old free agent on June 7, then sent the right-hander to the minors to get himself ready.

Victor Caratini's two-run homer capped the Cubs' four-run fifth inning that put them ahead for good. Kyle Schwarber also went deep for the Chicago, which got three RBIs from Jason Heyward on a warm day at Wrigley Field with steady wind blowing out to left.

BREWERS 4, MARINERS 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Orlando Arcia hit a three-run homer and Milwaukee avoided a three-game sweep with a win over Seattle.

Chase Anderson (4-2) bounced back after he allowed six runs in his previous start. Anderson allowed two runs, one earned, and struck out six in 5 1/3 innings.

He also kicked off a four-run fourth inning with an RBI sac bunt with the bases loaded. Arcia followed and slammed Mike Leake's next pitch to right for a three-run homer before Leake retired Yasmani Grandal to end the inning.

Leake (7-7) allowed four runs, eight hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings.

Josh Hader earned his 19th save of the season, striking out three batters over two scoreless innings.

PIRATES 10, ASTROS 0

HOUSTON (AP) - Josh Bell homered for the second straight game as one of five home runs by Pittsburgh as the Pirates routed the Houston Astros for the second game.

Former Astro Joe Musgrove (6-7) threw six scoreless innings for the win and Kevin Newman, Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte and Jacob Stallings added home runs for the Pirates to send Houston to its ninth loss in 11 games.

The Pirates picked up where they left off in Wednesday night's 14-2 rout of Houston when Newman sent Brad Peacock's first pitch of the game into the seats in left field for his first career leadoff homer. He has a career-long 17-game hitting streak, which is the longest active streak in the majors.

Houston starter Brad Peacock (6-6) allowed six runs in three innings, a game after Framber Valdez also made an early exit after the Pirates jumped on him for six runs through the first three.

RANGERS 3, TIGERS 1

DETROIT (AP) - Joey Gallo hit two solo homers and Ariel Jurado threw seven shutout innings and Texas completed a three-game sweep of Detroit.

Texas has won five straight games, matching a season high.

Gallo led off the second inning by driving Spencer Turnbull's pitch deep into the right-field seats. With two outs in the fourth inning, Gallo lined Nick Ramirez's pitch over the left-field wall. Gallo has 19 homers on the season.

It was Gallo's eighth multi-homer game and his first since Aug. 8, 2018, against the Seattle Mariners.

The Tigers have lost seven in a row overall, as well as their past seven home games.

Jurado (5-3) allowed six hits as he improved to 4-1 as a starter this season. He struck out four and walked just one. Jurado has won four of his past five decisions.

LEADING OFF: Kimbrel settling in, deGrom tries to right Mets

A look at what's happening around the majors Friday:

SETTLING IN

Craig Kimbrel got a little help settling in at Wrigley Field, and now he and the Chicago Cubs are hitting the road. Kimbrel got the save in his season debut Thursday, but only after Anthony Rizzo dived to tag first base for the final out when Kimbrel forgot to cover the bag. Kimbrel was brought up from Triple-A earlier in the day, feeling sufficiently tuned up after signing a $43 million, three-year contract June 7. The Cubs are set to open a series at Cincinnati, with left-hander Cole Hamels (6-2, 2.92) facing righty Sonny Gray (3-5, 4.03).

ROCKY ROAD

Jacob deGrom tries to get the Mets right after a miserable road trip. New York dropped 8 of 11 games, including the last five, during a swing through Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia. The trip included a jarring incident between manager Mickey Callaway, pitcher Jason Vargas and a reporter, and it ended with two straight walk-off losses. The club comes home to face the Braves and budding ace Mike Soroka (8-1, 2.07).

TAKE TWO

Mike Clevinger is set to come back off the injured list for Cleveland to start against Baltimore. Clevinger missed two months with a strained back muscle, returned June 17 and promptly sprained his ankle, landing back on the IL after 4 2/3 tough innings. Despite the injuries, his stuff has been excellent when he's pitched - he had 29 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings this season. John Means (6-4, 2.67) is up for the Orioles.

WELCOME BACK

Nationals right-hander Anibal Sanchez (3-6, 4.02) returns to Detroit to face the Tigers in the opener of a three-game series. From 2012 to 2017, Sanchez was 46-49 with a 4.43 ERA for the Tigers. Washington has won 8 of 10 and is coming off a three-game sweep over Miami capped by homers from young outfielders Juan Soto and Victor Robles.

Hottest team: Rangers (6-1 last seven)

The Rangers may not be the top team in their own state, but Texas has impressed so far this season by posting a 45-36 mark, which is good for second in the American League West. Texas is fresh off its first road sweep of the season after downing Detroit in three straight games at Comerica Park, while limiting the Tigers to five runs. Since allowing 10 runs in back-to-back losses to Cleveland, the Rangers have won six of their last seven games, even though the past five victories have come against teams with losing records.

Texas will be tested this weekend as the Rangers head to Tropicana Field to face the Rays. Tampa Bay is basically off a double-header on Thursday after outlasting Minnesota in 18 innings, 5-2 to avoid the three-game sweep. Lance Lynn is seeking his 10th victory of the season for Texas, as the right-hander has tossed at least six innings in 11 consecutive starts, but the Rangers are 1-3 in his past four road outings.

Coldest team: Mets (3-9 last 12)

New York has figured out new ways to lose just this week as the Mets led the Phillies in all four games of their series at Citizens Bank Park. Somehow, the Mets couldn?t hold onto any of those leads, as they dropped the final two games in walk-off fashion. After New York squandered a 4-0 advantage in Wednesday?s 5-4 setback in extra innings, the Mets scored three runs in the top of the ninth to overcome a 1-0 deficit on Thursday. The final three outs were impossible to record for Mets? closer Edwin Diaz, who allowed a pair of homers as Philadelphia stunned New York, 6-3 to send the Mets to their fourth straight loss.

The Mets will turn to last season?s Cy Young winner to stop the bleeding as Jacob deGrom faces a talented Braves? lineup. deGrom shut down Atlanta at SunTrust Park on June 18 by tossing 8.1 innings and striking out 10 batters in a 10-2 blowout of the Braves. The Mets couldn?t hold on in deGrom?s last appearance against the Cubs this past Sunday in a 5-3 defeat in spite of the right-hander striking out nine in six innings of work.

Hottest pitcher: Cole Hamels, Cubs (6-2, 2.92 ERA)

It?s been a month to remember for Hamels, who has yielded four earned runs in five starts in June, while pitching at least seven innings in each outing. Chicago has won three of the left-hander?s last four starts, including home victories over the Mets and Cardinals. Hamels has drilled the UNDER in all five June appearances, as he looks for his fifth road victory of the season. The Cubs square off with the struggling Reds at Great American Ballpark as Hamels has not faced Cincinnati this season. Last season, the Cubs defeated the Reds twice with Hamels on the bump, but both victories at Wrigley Field.

Coldest pitcher: Danny Duffy, Royals (3-3, 4.48 ERA)

In late May, the Royals knocked off the Angels and Yankees as underdogs of +150 with Duffy on the mound. However, Kansas City has slumped to a 1-4 record the last five starts made by the left-hander, as Duffy has given up 19 earned runs in this stretch. In spite of Duffy?s 5.09 road ERA, the Royals have won three of his four starts away from Kansas City, as the Royals and Blue Jays begin a four-game series at Rogers Center tonight.

Biggest OVER run: Orioles (7-1 last eight)

Baltimore has dropped 13 of its past 14 games after losing a pair of interleague contests to San Diego. The Padres lit up the Orioles in the two-game set at Camden Yards by scoring 18 runs, as Baltimore?s pitching has allowed 10 runs in three of the past five contests. In the last nine games, the O?s have been limited three runs or fewer six times, as Baltimore last won a game by scoring three runs or less on May 4 against Tampa Bay in a 3-0 shutout. The Orioles welcome in the Indians tonight as John Means takes the mound for Baltimore. Means has pitched well since entering the rotation as Baltimore has cashed the UNDER in eight of his last 10 starts.

Biggest UNDER run: Giants (4-1 last five)

San Francisco?s offense busted out in the first two games at Arizona last weekend by scoring 18 runs in a pair of wins over the Diamondbacks. In the last five contests, the Giants have posted a total of 10 runs, while putting up one run in Thursday?s 5-1 home defeat to the D-backs. San Francisco sends out Shaun Anderson to the mound tonight as the right-hander limited the D-backs to two runs in six innings of a 3-2 setback last Sunday at Chase Field.

Matchup to watch: Pirates vs. Brewers

Pittsburgh has rebounded from a seven-game skid by winning eight of its past 11 contests. The Pirates swept the Padres last weekend at home and followed that up with a series victory at Houston the last two days. Pittsburgh outscored Houston, 24-2 in a pair of blowouts at Minute Maid Park as an underdog of +215 and +180, while first baseman Josh Bell hit homers 21 and 22 for the Pirates.

The Brewers have slumped of late by losing nine of 12 games, including a series loss to the surging Mariners. Milwaukee avoided the sweep to Seattle in Thursday?s 4-2 victory, marking the eighth straight win by the Brewers in a home series finale. The Brewers have owned the Pirates this season by winning six of seven meetings, including a three-game sweep at Miller Park earlier this month.

Chris Archer takes the mound for Pittsburgh as the Pirates are 4-1 in his past five outings since a 1-7 start. Archer defeated the Brewers at PNC Park on May 31 as a +120 underdog, 9-4, while tossing seven innings and striking out seven. However, Pittsburgh has lost four of Archer?s five starts on the highway, while going 0-2 at Miller Park last season.

Jhoulys Chacin counters for Milwaukee, as the Brewers ended a five-start skid with the right-hander on the mound in last Saturday?s 6-5 win over the Reds. Chacin fell behind, 3-0 early before the Brewers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The veteran was knocked around by Pittsburgh the last time he faced the Bucs on May 31 by allowing seven runs in less than three innings of a 9-4 setback.

Betcha didn?t know: The Padres return home from a five-game road swing as San Diego plays host to St. Louis. Sisco homers, drives in 5 runs as Orioles rout Indians 13-0

DENVER (AP) Pinch-hitter Pat Valaika and David Dahl homered in an eight-run fifth inning, Nolan Arenado had four hits including a home run and the Colorado Rockies beat Los Angeles 13-9 on Friday night, snapping a 12-game losing streak to the Dodgers.

The Rockies withstood a three-run homer by Max Muncy and a two-run drive by Alex Verdugo to record their first win over the Dodgers since Sept. 8. The skid was the second-longest losing streak to one team in Rockies history, eclipsed only by a run of 16 consecutive losses to the Atlanta Braves from 1993-94.

Colorado had to weather another harrowing finish against the Dodgers.

Scott Oberg finished up by pitching a scoreless ninth.

Antonio Senzatela (7-5) went five innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. He walked five and struck out two.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-2) went four innings and allowed a season-high seven runs on nine hits. He struck out four and walked one.

ORIOLES 13, INDIANS 0

BALTIMIRE (AP) - The Orioles took the luster off Mike Clevinger's return from the injured list, scoring seven early runs off the right-hander.

Chance Sisco homered and had a career-high five RBIs for the Orioles, who built an 8-0 lead in the second inning and cruised to only their second win in 15 games.

Baltimore starter John Means (7-4) allowed one hit and one walk with five strikeouts in five innings.

After notching a total of 25 wins over the past two seasons, Clevinger (1-2) was making his fourth start of the season following two separate stints on the injured list with back and ankle problems.

Sisco, who was robbed of a second homer by center fielder Oscar Mercado in the fourth, rebounded to hit a two-run double during a four-run eighth that capped the Orioles' most lopsided victory since May 13, 2018, against Tampa Bay.

BRAVES 6, METS 2

NEW YORK (AP) -Rookie Mike Soroka outpitched Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom, and Atlanta got a two-run homer from fellow youngster Austin Riley in a win over New York.

Rookie slugger Pete Alonso hit his 28th home run for the Mets, who lost their sixth straight and fell a season-worst nine games under .500 at 37-46.

The 21-year-old Soroka (9-1) allowed two runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings to win his ninth decision in a row after dropping his season debut. He struck out four, walked none.

DeGrom (4-7) gave up three runs and six hits over six innings.

MARLINS 6, PHILLIES 2

MIAMI (AP) - Brian Anderson drove in three runs with a double and his 11th homer, and Miami snapped Philadelphia's four-game winning streak.

Last-place Miami beat Philadelphia for the fourth time in a row, including a three-game sweep last weekend.

Elieser Hernandez (1-2) allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn his first win in 10 career starts. Four relievers combined to complete the four-hitter.

Vince Velasquez (2-5) hit his first career homer for Philadelphia but allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Miami's Garrett Cooper had three hits, including two RBI singles, and hiked his average to .323. JT Riddle added his sixth homer.

RANGERS 5, RAYS 0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Lance Lynn struck out 10 over eight innings of three-hit ball, and Texas beat Tampa Bay for its season-best sixth-consecutive win.

Lynn (10-4) allowed just one runner to reach third base. The right-hander held Tampa Bay without a hit from two outs in the second until Willy Adames opened the eighth with a double.

Jose Leclerc completed a three-hitter for the Rangers, who moved into a tie for the first AL wild card with the Rays at 46-36.

Texas took a 3-0 lead in the second on an RBI double by Rougned Odor and Ronald Guzman's two-run double off Yonny Chirinos (7-4), who gave up four runs, five hits and four walks in six innings.

BLUE JAYS 6, ROYALS 2

TORONTO (AP) - Eric Sogard hit a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. homered twice for his second straight multi-homer game and Toronto snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over Kansas City.

Randal Grichuk added a two-run homer for Toronto, which won its second straight at home following a seven-game losing streak.

Gurriel Jr. hit a two-run homer off Danny Duffy in the sixth and added a solo shot off Wily Peralta in the eighth, the fourth multi-homer game of his career. Gurriel Jr. also homered twice in Wednesday's loss at Yankee Stadium. He's the fourth player in Blue Jays' history with consecutive multi-homer games.

Right-hander Daniel Hudson (4-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings for the win.

Duffy allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He's winless in seven starts since beating the Los Angeles Angels on May 19.

The Royals have lost five of seven.

NATIONALS 3, TIGERS 1

DETROIT (AP) - Anibal Sanchez beat his former team for his third win in four starts, Juan Soto hit his 14th home run of the season and Washington beat Detroit.

Sanchez (4-6) allowed six hits and struck out eight in six innings. Fernando Rodney pitched the ninth and recorded his first save of the season.

Daniel Norris (2-7) was removed the game after five innings with a cut on his pitching thumb.

Nick Castellanos accounted for Detroit's run in the bottom of the fifth with his eighth homer of the season.

The Nationals have won four straight and at 41-40 moved above .500 for the first time since they were 9-8 on April 18.

The Tigers have lost eight in a row.

REDS 6, CUBS 3

CINCINNATI (AP) - Cole Hamels left after only one inning because of discomfort in his side and Cincinnati snapped a four-game skid by beating Chicago.

The Cubs already were missing Kyle Hendricks, sidelined by a sore pitching shoulder. Hamels (6-3) exited after throwing 22 pitches and giving up a walk, two hits and a run in the first inning.

Sonny Gray (4-5) pitched shutout ball into the seventh before giving up Jason Heyward's two-run homer . Michael Lorenzen pitched out of the two-on threat in the eighth and got the last five outs for his fifth save in six chances.

Joey Votto had a season-high four singles and drove in a run. His third single off Mike Montgomery gave him 1,800 career hits. Phillip Ervin added a homer and a double.

WHITE SOX 6, TWINS 4

CHICAGO (AP) - Ross Detwiler earned his first win in nearly three years and Chicago snapped a seven-game losing streak against Minnesota.

James McCann and Eloy Jimenez each hit two-run homers, and Jon Jay and Jose Abreu added RBI singles as the White Sox won their second straight.

Miguel Sano hit a pair of two-run shots for his fifth career multihomer game.

Alex Colome got the final three outs for his 17th save.

Detwiler (1-0) allowed two runs and six hits in a start after the injury-depleted White Sox purchased the 33-year-old's contract from Triple-A Charlotte. His previous big league win was on Sept. 18, 2016, with Oakland.

Minnesota's Jose Berrios (8-4) allowed six runs (three earned) and nine hits in 7 1/3 innings.

PIRATES 3, BREWERS 2

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Kevin Newman homered and extended his hitting streak to 18 games, and Pittsburgh rallied with two late runs to beat Milwaukee.

The Pirates tied it in the eighth when Bryan Reynolds led off with a walk off reliever Junior Guerra and later scored on a fielder's choice. In the ninth, Elias Diaz drew a one-out walk off Jeremy Jeffress (1-2) and moved to third on Jose Osuna's single. Diaz scored when the Brewers failed to turn a double play on a comebacker to Jeffress.

Pittsburgh closer Felipe Vazquez (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings to get the win.

Chris Archer's wild pitch allowed Yasmani Grandal to score from third with the game's first run. Eric Thames doubled to drive in another to account for Milwaukee's scoring, in the first inning.

ASTROS 2, MARINERS 1

HOUSTON (AP) - Yuli Gurriel hit a game-ending home run in the 10th inning and Houston beat Seattle.

Gurriel hit a 2-2 pitch from Matt Festa (0-2) off the facade in left field for his eighth homer.

Houston's Josh Reddick hit a solo home run to right in the eighth inning to tie it at 1. That snapped a streak of 17 scoreless innings for the Astros.

Austin Nola put the Mariners ahead 1-0 in the third with his first career home run.

Will Harris (2-1) pitched around a single in the tenth for the win.

After Matt Carasiti pitched a scoreless first, Tommy Milone threw five scoreless innings, scattering three hits.

Houston starter Wade Miley yielded one run and three hits in six innings.

The Reds have picked up five wins in seven tries against the Cubs so far this season, including 3-1 in four games at home.

The Cubs roll out LHP Jose Quintana against RHP Luis Castillo in Game 2 of the series. The Cubs have dropped four in a row on the road and six straight overall. They're also 1-5 in Quintana's past six against teams with a losing record, while going 0-4 across his past four NL Central battles. The Cubs are also 2-9 in the past 11 road outings, while going 2-8 in the past 10 games vs. RHP on the road. In addition, the Cubs are 5-16 across their past 21 road games against teams with a winning home mark.

The Reds have rattled off home victories in five straight, while going 7-2 in the past nine outings against teams with a winning overall record. Cincinnati has posted five in a row at home against teams with a winning mark, too. MLB Game Preview - New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox

The New York Yankees are finally in better health and threatening to run away with the American League East Division. The Boston Red Sox have been up and down this season but still have the type of talent to compete for the World Series title. Boston is going to have to compete for a wild card berth into the playoffs unless it can manage to gain some ground on New York in the division, and a head-to-head matchup this weekend would be a good time to start.

The Yankees have a dominant lineup and have been the better team all year long so they will be confident they can capture at least one of these contests. Boston should be pushing hard for the sweep. The teams are facing off in London, which certainly adds an extra wrinkle to the contests.

This MLB series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will be held at London Stadium in London, England on Saturday, June 29th and Sunday, June 30th, 2019. The Saturday game will be nationally televised on FOX and the Sunday matchup will be nationally televised on ESPN.

Odds Analysis

The Yankees enter this series with a record of 52-28 on the season. They have won nine of their past 10 games to open up a big lead on both the Rays and the Red Sox in the A.L. East. New York has the second-best record in the American League behind only the Twins.

The Red Sox are 44-38 on the year. They have been scuffling for much of the season but their run-differential of plus-54 portends a nice run at some point. Boston?s most likely path to the postseason is a wild card berth because the Yankees are a great team with nine-game division lead on the Red Sox.

Probable Pitchers

The Saturday starting pitching matchup is expected to feature New York?s Masahiro Tanaka against Boston?s Rick Porcello. Tanaka has a record of 5-5 with a 3.21 ERA this season. He is one of the most dependable veteran starters in the majors and knows how to navigate tough lineups like Boston?s. Porcello is 5-7 with a 4.52 ERA on the year. He has better stuff than shown but has lacked consistency this season. Porcello gave up five earned runs in six innings last time out to the Blue Jays.

Boston is scheduled to send left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill on Sunday. He is 8-4 with a 4.87 ERA on the season. Like Porcello, Rodriguez has traditionally been better than this and Boston is hoping for both to turn it around in this series. The Yankees have yet to identify a scheduled starter for the Sunday matchup.

Injury Report

It?s amazing that the Yankees have this good of a record considering they were without star sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge for a long period due to injuries. Both recently returned but now Stanton is back on the injured list with a knee injury. Even without him, the Yankees deploy a formidable lineup that includes star hitters like Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez and the recently acquired Edwin Encarnacion.

The Yankees have a lineup that is downright scary, and they are setting records for the number of home runs hit this season. New York?s offense is capable of lighting up any opposing pitcher, especially now with Judge back in the middle of it. Even the absence of a star like Stanton won?t slow this group down.
