DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Wendell Carter Jr. had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 1 Duke beat Southern 78-61 on Friday night.

Marvin Bagley III added 19 points and 11 rebounds and Grayson Allen finished with 10 points for the Blue Devils (4-0), who were coming off a victory over No. 2 Michigan State three nights earlier.

Duke showed several classic symptoms of a letdown, finishing with a season-high 15 turnovers, shooting just 4 of 20 from 3-point range and for a while struggling to keep Southern off the offensive glass before regrouping to finish with a 51-34 rebounding advantage.

Trevon Duval also had 10 points for Duke, which never led by fewer than 10 points in the second half, but also had trouble putting Southern away, not pushing its lead into the 20s until the final 5 minutes.

Jamar Sandifer had 14 points and Torrey Mayo added 11 to lead the Jaguars (0-4).

By that point, the Jackrabbits (3-1) were staring at a 30-point deficit.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - Mikal Bridges set a school record by hitting all six of his 3-point shots and scored a career-high 24 points for Villanova.

Jalen Brunson added 22 points and hit 4 of 6 3s in another dominant performance by the Wildcats (3-0), who made 16 of 30 from long range.

Three nights after setting a school record with 13 blocked shots in a blowout of Nicholls, the versatile and deep Wildcats showed another strength and overwhelmed the Leopards (0-3).

Villanova hit 11 of its first 14 3s in racing to a 39-16 lead. The Wildcats had a stretch of nine straight baskets being 3s en route to a 56-23 halftime lead.

Matt Klinewski had 16 points and six rebounds for Lafayette, which was 7 of 29 from 3-point range.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Quade Green scored a career-high 21 points and Kevin Knox had 17 points with 10 rebounds as Kentucky overcame an early deficit.

Green scored 10 of the Wildcats' next 12 points to cut the lead to 23-20, and Hamidou Diallo and Wenyen Gabriel combined for 11 of the next 16 as Kentucky outscored ETSU 28-12 over the final 10:05 for a 36-30 halftime lead.

The Wildcats held the Buccaneers (1-2) to 32 percent shooting, including just 10 of 36 (28 percent) in the second half.

Peter Jurkin had 17 points for ETSU.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) - DJ Hogg scored 19 of his 24 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half and Texas A&M won its home opener.

Max Heidigger scored 24 points as the Gauchos (1-2) stuck around after the Aggies built an early 16-point lead. But Hogg's strong second-half kept UCSB from mounting a challenge.

A&M's junior forward scored 19 of A&M's 24 points to open the half, helping the Aggies (2-0) stretch the lead to 70-47.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Ray Spalding had a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, Deng Adel had a game-high 21 points and Anas Mahmoud had eight of his team's 15 blocked shots for Louisville.

Spalding scored 14 points after halftime, and Adel made 7 of 8 shots from both the field and the free-throw line to pace the offense for the Cardinals (2-0), who led by 20 early in the second half but didn't make a field for the last 4:36 of the game.

Daniel Norl had 16 points for Omaha (0-4), which was competitive in facing its highest-ranked opponent since becoming an NCAA Division I program in the 2011-12 season.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jaylen Hands scored 22 points to lead three freshmen in double figures for UCLA, which notched its third straight win despite a depleted roster.

Hands and fellow freshman Kris Wilkes broke the game open to start the second half for the Bruins (3-0). They scored 17 of the team's first 19 points to extend a six-point lead to 59-44.

Freshman Chris Smith added 15 points. Wilkes finished with 14 points, and Thomas Welsh added 13 points and 15 rebounds in their second game as part of the Hall of Fame Classic.

UCLA is playing with an eight-man roster since freshmen LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley were indefinitely suspended on Wednesday after confessing to shoplifting during the team's season-opening trip to China last week.

Daxter Miles poured in a career-high 32 points and No. 24 West Virginia overwhelmed Morgan State 111-48 on Saturday night in Morgantown, W. Va.

West Virginia enjoyed its largest margin of victory (63 points) since 2007.

Jevon Carter added 16 points, five assists and four steals for the Mountaineers (2-1), who took command with a 33-1 run during an eight-minute stretch of the first half.

Martel Cameron and LaPri McCray-Pace scored 10 each for Morgan State (2-2), which, despite upsetting South Florida last week, couldn't keep this one competitive.

"Press Virginia" forced 27 turnovers and dominated the rebounding 49-29.

Gonzaga struggled throughout a first half, when it trailed by as many as eight points, before breaking away in the second half.

Sophomore forward Killian Tillie had 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Gonzaga, which blew the game open with a 24-5 run after the Aggies' Diogo Brito's layup cut the Bulldogs' lead to 53-52 with 14:04 remaining in the second half.

Sam Merrill led Utah State with 19 points and six rebounds.

Scottie Lindsey scored 20 points, and Derek Pardon added 14 points for the Wildcats (3-1), who advance to face Texas Tech on Sunday.

B.J. Johnson scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Explorers.

Boise State is already 4-0; they were down 9 to UTEP with 3:23 Thursday, but rallied to win, then they spanked Illinois State by 18 Friday, making 12-27 on arc. Broncos start three seniors, one junior; they?ve made 40% of their 3?s so far this month- their opponents have made only 24.7% of theirs. Iowa State is in a rebuild after four starters graduated LY. Boston College beat three stiffs (all outside top 300) before losing 75-64 to Texas Tech yesterday, in a brickiest where two teams combined to go 7-35 on arc; Eagles start two sophs, two juniors- they used three guys 35:00+ vs Tech. LaSalle lost to Northwestern 82-74, when Wildcats made 12-21 on arc. Explorers played three guys 32:00+ yesterday- they start three seniors and a junior. Both teams have played slow pace so far; teams have shot 40.9% on arc against LaSalle this season.

Northwestern is 3-1 this year, with only loss a 92-88 defenseless home game vs Creighton earlier this week. Wildcats made 12-21 on arc in 82-74 win over LaSalle yesterday- they used three guys 33:00+ Saturday, got to foul line only 6 times the whole game. Texas Tech starts five seniors; three of their five subs are freshmen. Red Raiders are 3-0 with 11-point win over BC and coupe wins over stiffs. Wake Forest is off to terrible 1-3 start, with two losses to teams outside top 150; Deacons beat Quinnipiac yesterday, when they made 10-24 on arc. Wake starts two juniors, three seniors; only two of their guys played more than 27:00 yesterday. Houston was upset by Drexel Friday but beat host Liberty yesterday, despite making only 6-24 on arc. Cougars played nine guys double digit minutes; only two guys played more than 29:00- they start three seniors, two juniors. Both teams are playing for third day in a row.

Florida State won its first two games by 20-24 points, forcing turnovers 29.1% of time, but both opponents are borderline stiffs. Seminoles started three juniors and a senior Friday- they played ton of kids double digit minutes Friday. Colorado State beat couple of stiffs to start season, then got whacked 80-53 by Tulane Friday; Rams are in a rebuild, starting two sophs, three seniors- they were down 37-14 at halftime in last game. Colorado State made only 15-57 on arc in their first three games.

Niagara upset rival St Bonaventure to start its season, then lost last game by 26 at Minnesota; Purple Eagles were outscored 36-10 in last 10:00 against the Gophers. Niagara starts three juniors, two seniors. UMass struggled to beat Mass-Lowell by 5 in its opener, then lost in OT to Harvard last game; Minutemen start two sophs, two juniors- they haven?t played in a week. UMass is just 6-27 on arc in its first two games. Niagara?s last winning season was five years ago, when Mihalich was the coach.

Virginia is 3-0, but this is quick turnaround for them after their tough 76-67 win at VCU Friday night. Cavaliers beat couple of stiffs in their first two games by 12-44 points; they?ve forced turnovers 26.3% of time, are shooting 60% inside the arc while playing slowest tempo in whole country. Monmouth is a gritty underdog; they lost by 10 at Seton Hall, their only loss in three games. Hawks start three juniors and a senior after going 55-15 the last two years. Cavaliers are off to NYC for a holiday tournament after this game.

Nebraska beat couple of stiffs to start season, then got whacked 79-56 at St John?s Thursday; they?ve made only 27% of their 3?s so far, have the #325 (out of 351) eFG% in country. Huskers start three juniors and a senior; they played in NYC Thursday. North Dakota went 2-1 in Hawaii tournament that ended Monday; Hawks beat Troy/Pine Bluff, lost to the host Rainbows by 3. UND start three juniors and a senior- they got to line 38 times (31-38) in last game. Crandall is an explosive scorer for North Dakota (41 pts in first game, 20-21 in next two).

TOP 25 REWIND: Spartans' Izzo hopes to see No. 1 Duke again

Duke and Michigan State offered an early 1-vs-2 gem featuring a preseason All-American, a star-laden freshman class and a senior adding another big moment to a career that includes winning a national championship.

Spartans coach Tom Izzo was left hoping it wasn't the only time his team might see the Blue Devils this year.

''We deserved what we got, they deserved what they got,'' Izzo told reporters after Tuesday's 88-81 loss in the Champions Classic in Chicago. ''Do I think we'll get better? Do I think we'll get a chance to play them again? I sure as hell hope so.''

The 42nd meeting of the top two teams since 1949 headlined the past week's AP Top 25 schedule, part of a heavyweight doubleheader that also included No. 4 Kansas' 65-61 win against No. 7 Kentucky.

Michigan State star sophomore Miles Bridges - the leading vote-getter on The Associated Press preseason All-America team - finished with 19 points. But Izzo lamented his team's performance on the boards, a 46-34 Duke edge that led to 17 second-chance points and prompted Izzo to describe it as a ''smashmouth'' characteristic of past Michigan State teams.

As for Duke, the Blue Devils had several takeaways. Freshman guard Trevon Duval (17 points, 10 assists, six steals) shined in his first marquee game. And senior Grayson Allen's career-best 37 points more than made up for the loss of top rookie Marvin Bagley III to a first-half eye injury.

In fact, Allen's play was a throwback to his freshman year, when Quinn Cook was the vital senior alongside a touted rookie class featuring three one-and-dones. That team beat Izzo's Spartans in the Champions Classic then again in the Final Four on the way to winning the 2015 NCAA title - part of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski's 12-1 record against Michigan State.

''It's an honor to play against Tom's program,'' Krzyzewski said. ''They bring out the best in you.''

THE ''OTHER'' BIG ONE: Kansas coach Bill Self considered his team's performance against Kentucky ''a great grind-it-out win.'' That win came despite shooting 35 percent, though some of that can be attributed to the Jayhawks managing 18 offensive rebounds and 20 second-chance points.

As for Kentucky, John Calipari's bunch led by the latest crop of star freshmen hung in after a couple of shaky home performances that included rallying from nine down at halftime to beat Utah Valley and holding off Vermont.

''I'm trying to get them to think less and play more,'' Calipari said, ''and just worry about competing.''

CENTURY MARKS: Fifth-ranked Villanova and eighth-ranked Florida both cracked the century mark - twice.

The Wildcats beat Nicholls 113-77 and Lafayette 104-57 . The Gators beat Gardner-Webb 116-74 then beat North Florida 108-68 to take plenty of momentum into Sunday's game against New Hampshire, though they won that one just 70-63 on Sunday.

COMINGS AND GOINGS: Turns out, Joel Berry II didn't much time with a preseason hand injury for reigning champion North Carolina.

The bad news? Pittsburgh graduate transfer Cameron Johnson will.

Berry, the Final Four's Most Outstanding Player, made his season debut in Wednesday's win against Bucknell. He didn't play in the season opener after breaking a bone in his right hand when he punched a door after losing a video game against teammate Theo Pinson and a student manager.

Johnson, however, is expected to miss 4-6 weeks after having surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Johnson was hurt in Monday's practice after sitting out the opener with a sprained neck as a precaution.

NORTHWESTERN'S LOSS: No. 20 Northwestern was the other Top 25 team to lose this week, falling to Creighton and then to Texas Tech on Sunday night, after earning its first preseason AP Top 25 ranking.
