IE- I looked at 1st year coaches since 1990 and looked at their record ATS in the first lined game of their career- my numbers came up with approx. 35-47 ATS or 42.6%- looks like a slight angle to play against new coaches in game 1 of the season.

Chenker, i tend not to blanket the situation or angle as a whole but look for spots, where a new head coach is bringing in a whole new philosphy and how the team is adapting to it in summer/fall practice...
i just keep reading and listening to as much as i can to see if i can pick out coaching tendencies early and use it with other situations.

notre dame, could be a good go against early maybe?....

There are many concerns for the offense to improve upon from a pathetic 2001 performance. Even though Ty has been known for developing quarterbacks, he will have a challenge with Holiday making the transition from an option attack to a west coast style.

good luck

also, mass assistant coaches changing could be just as difficult early on sometimes than as the new head coach.....the case at UCinn....

from houston chronicle.....preview
"Getting signals straight in the coaching ranks with five new assistants, including offensive coordinator Rusty Burns, the third in three seasons. As he starts his ninth season, Rick Minter has had 47 assistants. ... Burns' spread formations use three-step drops by the QB, which should help cut down on the 28 sacks allowed a year ago. "

. . . and late. The Irish could have as many as 4 quarterbacks on the field at one time this year as many of the QBs transferred positions. The problem is that none of them are worth a lick. I can see them performing well against Maryland, but once you've got film on the Irish, they're gonna be easy to defend.

Notre Dame Leading Rusher Won't Play

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) ? Julius Jones, Notre Dame's leading rusher the past two seasons, will not play for the Irish this fall, offensive coordinator Bill Diedrick said Thursday.

University officials previously declined to comment on media reports that Jones would miss the upcoming season because of academic problems.

Jones ran for 1,750 yards and had 19 touchdowns in three seasons for the Irish, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He was plagued by injuries the past two seasons.

Sophomore Ryan Grant becomes the team's most experienced back. He played in five games last season, gaining 110 yards on 29 carries.
