This search for Tennessee is reminding me of Nebraska's '03 search and how they ended up with Bill Callahan.

Here is the thing Poon, when you send a jet up to Louisville to try and outbid for Charlie Strong, you have showed your hand. He is not worth $3-4 million, nor is Gundy. The boosters might circle the wagons and take this back over.

I can only hope. No offense to Bart, but Larry Fedora is not going to sell many season tickets:facepalm:

Gundy Staying!

:00hour

Jaxx - congrats, I think he played that well in the fact that he seemed to want to prove to the AD that he is wanted. I think it would have been a mistake to pay $4 million+/year and the $4 million buyout, but he just makes too much sense to stay and I don't see the fit here.

This ignorant fuckstick AD from Bama is making this search a cluster fuck of epic proportions and I am glad. I never thought he should have been hired and hope he gets fired before the new coach is brought in.

Congrats on keeping your boy:toast:

Kent State holding the dreaded team meeting today. MAC coaches have done a terrific job when moving up (Urban Meyer, Brian Kelly to name a couple) and Hazell will do the same. I can't say enough how impressed I am by him.

I think you are right about Hazell.

Out of curiosity, what was your opinion on Beckman last year going from Toledo to Illinois.

Other than for the financial aspect I think he was foolish. he left a program that was poised to take another run at the MAC west and could of possibly had a better offer this year. I am also of the belief that it's best to be a big fish in a small pond. Happiness carries no price tag with it.

He certainly had a rough go of it in his first year and its never good when your AD has to give you a stamp of approval after only 1 year.

Cal picks Louisiana Tech's Dykes as coach

Sonny Dykes, head coach of the nation's highest-scoring football team and the worst defense while at Louisiana Tech, will be Cal's next head coach, the university announced Wednesday.

A news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday to introduce Dykes as the successor to Jeff Tedford, who was fired Nov. 20.

"I am excited for the opportunity to become head coach at the University of California," Dykes said in a statement. "Cal offers one of the best combinations of athletics and academics in the country, and a passionate fan base to match. I'm looking forward to bringing our exciting and enthusiastic brand of football to Berkeley."

Dykes had been high on Cal's list of coaching candidates since Tedford was let go, although it's worth noting that no other school made a serious run at him since the end of the season.

In any event, the new coach is in line for a hefty raise. At Louisiana Tech, Dykes made $752,000 annually, not including performance bonuses. Tedford earned $2.3 million in 2012.

This is the first football hire at Cal for Barbour, who said, "Sonny Dykes is one of the brightest offensive minds in the country. However, it was far more than his proven success on the field that solidified my decision; it's the way he described his responsibility to the university at large and his commitment to creating a climate of comprehensive excellence and success for his student-athletes."

Cal players were informed of their new coach in a team meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Dykes was one of four candidates known to have interviewed for the job. The others: former Raiders head coach and current Cincinnati Bengals assistant Hue Jackson (a onetime Cal assistant), San Jose State head coach Mike MacIntyre and former Kent State head coach Darrell Hazell, who was named Purdue's head coach Tuesday.

Boise State's Chris Petersen, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun and Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter were also in the mix.

"This is a great job," Barbour said Nov. 20. "It's been made better by Jeff Tedford."

At Louisiana Tech, Dykes compiled a three-year record of 22-15, including a 9-3 mark this season, in which the Bulldogs averaged a Football Bowl Subdivision-best 51.5 points per game while allowing 38.5 points, 116th in the country. Tech was last in the country in yards allowed per game at 526.1.

Dykes, who spent three seasons at Arizona (2007-08-09) as offensive coordinator on former head coach Mike Stoops' staff, runs a spread offense known as "Air Raid" and is a disciple of Washington State head coach Mike Leach, for whom he worked as receivers coach at Texas Tech from 2000 through '06.

At times, Dykes' prolific offense at Louisiana Tech looked like it had a half-dozen Wes Welkers catching passes from quarterback Colby Cameron, a California native.

Although Dykes, 43, was born in Texas and most recently plied his trade in Louisiana, he's no stranger when it comes to California. Like many coaches, he comes here to recruit, and successfully, too: his 2012 roster featured 11 Californians, including his starting quarterback, Cameron, his starting running back, Ray Holley, and one starting receiver, David Gru.

After Louisiana Tech's season-ending 52-43 loss at San Jose State, Dykes mentioned the importance of recruiting in California. It's of primary importance now.

It will be up to Dykes whether to retain any of the five assistant coaches from Tedford's staff who were kept to handle recruiting in the interim. They are Ron Gould (running backs), Marcus Arroyo (quarterbacks), Jim Michalczik (offensive line), Wes Chandler (receivers) and Ashley Ambrose (defensive backs).

Middle Tenn & W Kentucky HC's now in lineup for Vols job? OMFG!!!!!

Stockstill reportedly very interested in leaving MT and what's his name at WK is pissed he didn't get the Purdue job, now he's listening to Vols (Willie Taggart) hell he's only been at WK for 3 years and had one winning season!! Hell his club beat Kentucky, but everyone did this year!

Butch Jones officially turns down Colorado (no brainer as reported on ESPN) and he will turn down Tennessee as well. Still think Kirk Ferentz (spelling) will come out of the woodwork to interview for Tennessee or head to NFL and leave IOWA-weejun.

Colorado AD taking a trip to see Sam Houston vs Montana St for Friday. Hmmm.

Also Kirk Ferentz has been given permission to talk to CU officials, even with his iron clad contract. Iowa's finances are not that good, Colorado's is worse!

I hope Colorado gets someone who can bring the Buffs back to life! McCartney was last coach to do squat and he did some improper things after the fact of National prominence.

Neuheisel? Playoffs? Playoffs? Rick Neuheisel couldn't coach a pop warner club to the playoffs!

Later!

What past Colorado coach doesn't have some controversy about him? Though McCartney definitely takes the cake.

McCartney and the guy who directed N'western, Barnett, both, LOL!! It's a great school, lots of interaction, great community, facilities are not that bad to be honest, used to get tons of very good Cally kids and JC transfers, now they just get whatever is left over that USC/UCLA/Oregon well crap the whole PAC 10 don't get, LOL!

I hope they land someone that will revitalize them
