this is a tough one. you take an oath to defend the constitution - foreign and domestic. the prez is still the commander n chief, and i believe powell is required to obey orders. do not know what choice he really had... i have always liked him. i could be wrong, but i think he does have integrity.

I always liked him too, because of his integrity and long term distinguished service to our Country. I'm not attacking him personally, I think He is a great man, we all make mistakes. This stuff about obeying orders is bull shit. Powell was no foot soldier, He was the Sec of State. He was a policy maker. What would have happened if He resigned before the war and went public with why he resigned ? His tell all book doesn't serve anyone but the man he has trouble with in the mirror. This was his chance to put his foot print on history, every thing he did in His career up to that point earned him the right to have the ear of the President and the trust of the American People. This was his defining moment, forget-about what I think, forget-about what historians will say, I don't think He can give himself a passing grade on this one. Your either a Leader or your not ! What's more important than the question to go to war or not go to war ? We are not talking about some dummy here, He knew ! He didn't step up. He coulda been a contender, instead of another bum on the long list of bums in this administration.

i would agree that he definetely had a moral obligation to tell the truth. defending the lives of troops that were going to die should have been #1 priority - not the bush agenda. His support of the effort did cause bush to get a great deal of support for the war . had he went before congress with a different story perhaps we are not fighting today.....
