I have this debt that keeps following me. It isnt a real debt, in other words I dont owe it. It is from something like 9 years ago, $600.00. I have had at least 40 companies try to collect it. Not one of these companies has ever been able to verify it is a valid debt. Usually every time I ask they cant prove I owe it so they sell it to someone else then I have to start all over. How can I make them stop. No way am I ever going to pay it. EVER. Last company the guy was fairly nice and said he was sending it back and blah blah and it would go away. I didnt hear chit for like 3 months but now its starting again. Some fukcin foreign asswipes are calling me now :cursin: :mj16: :mj16: :mj16: What can I do if anything?

I say give them a huge tip on say something like the Panthers -7 over GB and tell them to bet $600 on it ... that should cover it and make them happy ... maybe they'll even throw 50k on it and profit for themselves.

Agent, you can send the collection company a written notice that they have to validate the debt with the original company it was from. At the same time send a letter to each of the credit reporting companies telling them that you have done this. If the collection company doesn't validate the debt within 30 days of you sending the letter then all of the credit companies have to take it off of your credit. You can do a google for validating a debt or something close to that and you can propbably find a good legal letter with that info on it.

Depending on what it is, they can't collect in either 3 or 4 years after the last payment was made on the account. That depends on what state you live in.

If they don't validate your debt but they still keep calling (again depends on what state you live in) you can file a small claims against them and sue for usually 1k plus expenses

On a serious note, get a copy of your credit report. If it is on your report, you have a problem. A/ It can be solved. B/ It will hurt your ability to get credit if you need it.
There are steps to take either way. However, if it is a legit debt I would tell you to pay it and get a letter of payment with an explanation. 600 bucks is not worth the hassle. If the debt is over 180 days old, there is little chance of collection and they know it.
Always be absurdly polite when they call and up front record the date, time, the company and the rep in the event you sue for damages. Keep us up to speed

Its supposedly a cell phone bill from 95. I never even had one back then. Others claim it is a car loan :mj07: ??? It has never been put on my credit as we check it religiously. They keep threatening but never put it on there.

THANKS WOOD

Depending on states of course, but here is the general rule. 10 years for a contract (ie loan, credit card, etc.). 5 years for a deliquent bill (ie. medical, dental, bad check,etc..)

I know most agencies buy and sell debt all the time. Just create a general dispute letter stating not to have it listed on your credit report and ask for proof of said debt. Keep copies of such letters, plus notate everthing that has occured.

If someone does come up with said proof, contact the original creditor, or you can contact me and I'll help you.

I've worked in this indutry for 11+ years

Thank you Stang. I have created such letter three times and it keeps popping back up after a few months. Along with that, not one of these companies has EVER been able to send me ANY type of proof. They always say they dont have to :mj07: Yeah right, I should just pay it. They always want me to verify my social. I never give it to them. Fawk that. :cursin:

I wouldn't verify any information at this time.

Actually next time ask for a manager or for the presdent of the company. Talk to them or write that person a letter explaining your situation.

If that doesn't work there are some federal laws that could come into play.
