I Still like UCLA tonight but Blake Cooper(SC's ace) will be starting for the Cocks tonight per the official South Carolina athletic site.

Omaha, Neb. - South Carolina senior right-hander Blake Cooper will start for South Carolina on Monday night vs. UCLA at the 2010 College World Series in game one of the championship series. Cooper is 12-2 on the year with a 2.86 ERA with a team-high 129.0 innings pitched. He has 116 strikeouts to just 38 walks. In the postseason, Cooper owns a 2-1 record with a 2.52 ERA in 25 innings pitched. He will go up against UCLA sophomore right-hander Gerrit Cole (11-3, 3.26 ERA). Monday's game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET first pitch and will be televised live on ESPNHD and can be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network.

Ormond...just keep in mind that Cooper will be pitching on 3 days rest tonight. If you still like the Cocks play them...they are up to +170 at most books right now.

I had UCLA as well tonight. Can't believe how nervous and weak those kids looked while the Cocks were relaxed, loose, and seemed to really enjoy being the Underdogs.

Best of luck tomorrow Poon.

YTD Record: 110-99 for +12.05 units

The miserable ride ends with another loss last night.

Oliver, as you have previously shown at MJ's you are truly a class act bud. I'm surprised you didn't state how much $ you won betting on SC after you saw I was on UCLA. While you are on the edge of your seat, while you hop up and down a couple of times and go fuck yourself. I'm sure it doesn't take much to get you off.

I took this same hit last night, as I have UCLA to win series. Anyone know the pitching matchups for tonight?

Hey dirtbag,

Poon takes the time to post winning plays year after year. He doesn't deserve some dipshit posting nonsense in his thread after a brief slide.

Why not spend some time capping the games yourself and adding something of value? Nevermind, I know why.......

Poon,

you're a solid capper...just hitting a rough spot...everyone's so quick to puff out their chest when they win but nobody says 'boo when they come up short...just calling it like I see it...you'll shake it off and come back strong...good luck to you!

And Cie Grant, why come to the defense of someone who needs no defending?...Instead shouldn't you be trying to organize all those the unraveling Grateful Dead cassette tapes that are littering your apartment at least I hope for your sake they're from the 70's...and not the 90's.:mj07:

OMAHA, Neb. -- South Carolina grabbed the momentum with a 7-1 victory over UCLA in Game 1 of the College World Series championship series on Monday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.

UCLA will likely turn to junior left-hander Rob Rasmussen as the Bruins try to stave off elimination tonight.
Gamecocks coach Ray Tanner gambled that senior Blake Cooper would be ready to match UCLA ace Gerrit Cole, and the decision paid off as Cooper took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and pitched into the ninth in a dominating performance.

After Monday night's game, neither Tanner nor UCLA coach John Savage were ready to name a starter for Game 2.

With a one-game cushion, Tanner doesn't have to rush No. 2 starter Sam Dyson to the mound for Tuesday night's game. He went as far as saying that his team would probably trot a left-handed pitcher out to the mound. All signs point to Michael Roth (2-1, 1.27 ERA) getting the baseball. Roth, a sophomore from Greer, S.C., was spectacular in his last CWS appearance, throwing a complete game three-hitter in South Carolina's 5-1 win over Clemson on Friday night. In his first start of the season, Roth allowed only one earned run with one walk and four strikeouts.

Savage said sophomore Trevor Bauer, who already has won twice in Omaha, would not be available for tonight's game. Bauer threw 135 pitches in a 10-3 win over TCU on Saturday, after tossing 128 pitches in a 11-3 win over Florida on June 19. Bauer had 24 strikeouts in his first two CWS games.

Rob Rasmussen, a left-handed junior from Arcadia, Calif., will probably take the mound for the Bruins. Rasmussen (11-3, 2.87 ERA) was a tough-luck loser in UCLA's first loss at the CWS, allowing six hits and three runs in a 6-2 loss to TCU on June 25. He threw 95 pitches in the game.

The Gamecocks have struggled recently against left-handed power pitchers like Rasmussen, who has 123 strikeouts in 103 1/3 innings. Auburn's Grant Dayton and Ole Miss' Drew Pomeranz each silenced USC's bats while leading their teams to late-season victories over the Gamecocks.

The strategy for the Bruins tonight is simple: beat the Gamecocks and get to Bauer, who has been the most dominating pitcher here.

South Carolina would obviously prefer to finish things tonight so it wouldn't have to face Bauer in a winner-take-all game on Wednesday night.

Cocks are going with lefthander Roth according to their official website. He wont be going against 6 lefty bats tonight though like he did against Clemson.

Omaha, Neb. - South Carolina sophomore left-hander Michael Roth will start for South Carolina on Tuesday night vs. UCLA at the 2010 College World Series. Roth leads the team with 36 appearances on the year and owns a 2-1 record with a 1.27 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched with 32 strikeouts to just eight walks. Opponents are batting just .174 against him.

guess I'll roll the dice with another play

Over 10.5 for 2 units - USC bats are obviously hot and Roth probably won't be as unscathed as he was the other night.

tig3rs - that future of yours is looking mighty fine about now huh? Great going man.

Just curious Mr. Poon...what site do you use to play college baseball during the regular season...I love playing it but usually just do it when conference championships start.

Mr. Poon,

Tough go of it down the stretch of college baseball season. However, even with that chunk of losses you still ended up +10 units or so. If I'm not mistaken, last year, you cleared over 30 units by the end of the CWS. I'd say +40 units over two long seasons is quite a success! :00hour

I know it's not easy to follow one sport for an entire season, post plays each week with insightful, cogent analysis and win consistently... but that is what you have done with this sport. College baseball surely has a small following in regard to sports handicapping, but you have found a nice niche and proven that, if you put the work in, the sport can be a money-maker. Kudos to you and I'd like to say that your efforts to provide weekly college baseball analysis here at MadJack's are appreciated. :0008

JCovers - thanks for the kind words man. Last year was in the neighborhood of 30 units. Definitely a disappointing major slide to the end this year, but there's a reason its called gambling. Both last year and this year I peaked over 50 units and had crashes near the end. Maybe that should teach me next year to pack it in before my annual post-season slump?

For those that are interested in college bases for wagering purposes, try to follow some of the wood bat leagues these kids play in the summer. There is quite a bit of baseball these guys play in after the season ends. Many pre-season rankings, previews and all-american lists simply go off of the prior year's stats. There are often times average kids start to blossom in these wood bat leagues, or vice versa, good players start to take a bit of a dive. Just catching a bit here and there are certain players, especially pitchers, can be very valuable the following year.
