For Sunday:
UVa -175 (vs. FSU) for 2 units ? would like to just pocket the future win on UVa and move on, but this is too tempting. After their first two games of the conference tourney and it appeared they were headed for the championship game, Coach Brian O?Connor saved his #1 pitcher for and will throw him tomorrow. That just happens to be All-American Danny Hultzen who had a great year at the dish and on the mound. For the year his stats were: 1.49 ERA; 0.83 WHIP; .189 OBA and 131 K?s in 90.1 IP. In his appearance during the regular season against the Seminoles he gave up 6 H?s, 0 BB?s, 2 ER and 12 K?s in 7 IP. The K?s are a big thing as FSU, as typical, are a pretty free swinging club. Hunter Scantling, a mid-week starter and reliever, will be the starter for FSU (3.14 ERA; 1.17 WHIP; .220 OBA and 38 K?s in 48.2 IP). Though Scantling did have 1 good start vs. Florida, much of his numbers were built up on weaker competition. His last few outings he didn?t fare well against conference competition. Overall offense, defense and bullpen edges all go to the Cav?s. The only edge FSU really has is power and that is negated by Hultzen only allowing 2 HR?s all season.
Hall +125 (vs. St. John?s) for ? unit ? St. John?s is on the bubble, Seton Hall is squarely on the wrong side of it currently, should make for a high energy game. Hall has only played 3 games (in 4 days) to get to the championship tilt while the Johnnies played 4. Both teams are throwing their #1 starters on only 3 days rest. Both starters are quality arms, but because of the short rest I expect the pens to factor big into this one. Hall has the better pen in terms of quality and depth. Add on the 1 less game and it is the main reason for the play. Johnnie?s offense is better and more potent, but Hall has the making of a cinderella story and stealing a big from someone.
