College Ball Week #6

YTD Record: 17-12 for +4.95 units

No time for detailed write-ups, but here is what I?m going with for Friday:

S. Carolina +200 (@ Florida) for 1 unit ? Gators are playing like the #1 overall team, but this is a big dog price for a capable team that is ranked #4 and has a great pitcher on the mound in Michael Roth.

GaTech +105 (@ Miami) for 2 units ? Yellow Jackets are playing some good ball and with Mark Pope on the mound, they have a big edge over an average Miami squad. Miami?s starter Bryan Radziewski was hit hard in his 1 game against a really good offense (Florida). Yellow Jackets aren?t as potent as the Gators, but are still capable of chasing Radziewski early and setting the tone.

Vandy -120 (@ Arky) for 2 units ? Commodores are the much better club all the way around and a small fav price is a value for all-american Sonny Gray on the mound.

Zona +155 (@ ASU) for 2 units ? ASU is proving me wrong the few times I?ve gone against them. Kurt Heyer (Wildcat?s starter) is the best pitcher that the Sun Devil?s will have faced this year.

good day going 3-1 getting all 3 dog plays. Vandy loses a pitcher's duel 2-1 giving up the 2 runs in the bottom of the 8th, otherwise would have been a great sweep.

For today:

GaTech -120 (@ Miami) for 2 units - another good advantage on the mound today for the Yellow Jackets with Jed Bradley starting for them. Add in the edges at the plate, defensively and in the pen and GaTech should be able to take the second on the road from an overrated Miami club.

Vandy -135 (@ Arky) for 2 units ? another game where there should advantages across the board to the road club. Junior Grayson Garvin (Vandy) will go against Frosh Barrett Astin (Arky). Astin has made only one start, earlier this week so I don?t expect him to last long being on short rest. A veteran club like Vandy should be able to get to him early, especially consider his control is questionable (11 B?s in 18 1/3 IP).

Florida -300 (vs. S. Carolina) for 1/2 unit - Gamecocks scheduled starter has been scratched and in his place will be a frosh without a lot of experience making his first start. Will make a smallish play despite the large juice.

For today:

Florida -120 (vs. FSU) for 1 unit ? going small on the Gators for the same reason I took them the other 2 times they faced FSU in mid-week matchups.* Better bats and the more experienced and deeper pitching staff.* Junior Hunter Scantling is the starter for the Seminoles and his only ?bad? outing this year has been against the Gators in which he gave up 2 ER, 5 H and 1 BB in 3 1/3 IP.* Those are the only 2 ER he has given up this year, but I believe they can get to him early.* Gators counters with Junior Anthony DeSclafini, who has mainly been used as a reliever this year with only 1 start.* However, he?s been used as a starter in prior years so can go a handful of innings if needed.* And as noted, Florida?s depth allows for a bullpen full of talent if he gets in trouble.

UCLA +185 (@ Fullerton) for 1 unit ? two squads that started the year highly rated but have had up and down seasons thus far.* UCLA is going to give Frosh Zach Weiss his first start.* Weiss has a 3.21 ERA and 15K?s in 14 IP over 9 relief appearances and shown why he was a 10th round draft pick out of high school.* Fullerton goes with Junior Collin O?Connell who had a rough outing last week against ASU.* Add in the fact that a handful of Titans were suspended (including O?Connell) for their series over this past weekend with Hawaii, and I think there might some rust/guys pressing a bit.* Good value for UCLA at such a big dog price.
