Great handicapping tool!

74,059 people watched SC stomp Auburn. That's impressive! The men really had fun that day!

p.s. Just a little heads up! Try to spell the word "attendance" correctly the next time you base a post on it. Some misguided individuals might think you're stupid!

Yep about as worthwhile as Scott and your rants on SOS and numerous other worthless topics, but just think how much fun those below 60k folks had watching Stanford and Arizona play in the gutter bowl!

Why didn't the BCS factor in attendance in their formula?

Last year they could have had this formula.....

AP + COACHES + COMPUTERS + SOS + ATTENDANCE!!!

I think the BCS threw out SOS so are they going to replace it with attendance? I am sure MC will argue for that. You must reward the SEC fans for having to watch their teams play CITADEL and LA MONROE year after year. That is what shocks me is how the SEC can sell out games to such pathetic opponents. Thumbs up to SEC fans! I certainly would not put up with it.

Do the AP or Coaches poll factor in attendance when making their top 25?

The Pac 10 is 10-2 in their last 12 times playing the SEC. Doesn't look like the Pac 10 had much trouble playing in SEC country. "Attendance" might have been weak in those games.

When USC traveled across the country to play "top pre-season ranked" Auburn, I am sure the AU players on the field said...........

"This is what separates the men from the boys! ATTENDANCE!!!!"

:142lmao:

Just my opinion........

I think it is great the SEC has so many passionate fans. I loved the USC vs AU series and I wish I went to see USC play at AU. AU fans were really cool fans and have cool traditions. There are a few reasons why maybe teams in the Pac 10 have fewer fans attending games.

1) MORE THINGS TO DO IN THE WEST COAST!!!!

2) How many professional teams are near the SEC universities? How many big time colleges are near the SEC Universities? NOT MANY!

Just take LA for example. USC has to compete with UCLA (BIG TIME PROGRAM), Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers (all within 30 miles of USC) and there are many more teams surrounding USC etc. Those are just other sporting events. Then you must factor is all the OTHER surrounding area activities (beaches etc..)

3) COSTLY!! Costs a hell of a lot more to live in LA or many other places on the west coast than in SEC country.

Are those really excuses? Not really but they could help answer to questions why. USC, UW, and Oregon have very good attendance levels. USC does have the #1 or #2 home winning streak in the nation.

All in all, hands down SEC has the #1 fans and very passionate about football. That is what makes college football so great is how passionate fans are of each team.

*I compared Pac 10 vs SEC since SEC was #1

1) More things to do on the west coast, yeah there's alot more to do in Pullman or COrvalis than there is to do in Gainesville or Athens, since the weather is so much better in Corvalis and the night life in Pullman is 5 star!

2) Surrounding activities, well I think Florida has many pro teams and Georgia has pro teams, and as far as I know the NFL still plays on Sundays! Your example of the Clippers was funny what do they draw per night 6k?

3) It may cost more to live on the WestCoast but you failed to include that the average wages are also higher on the west coast.

4) You compared the Pac 10 to the SEC, but in reality you could make this comparison of the Pac 10 to the ACC, Big 12 or Big 10 and the PAC 10 doesnt compare.

I agree the Pac 10 attendance does not compare. I do not really care if Oregon St. sells out their stadium or not. Or if AU sells out their stadium or not.

Why do you? Attendance IMO has nothing to do with RANKINGS OF TEAMS! Attendance has NOTHING to do with the strength of teams.

Take all Pac 10 teams and all 12 SEC teams and compare cities!!!!

If you read at the bottom of my reply, I said it is not really an excuse but are reasons why attendance might be stronger in other conferences. I also think there are more football intelligent fans from those areas in the country because that is all there is to do in those areas! FOOTBALL!

THEY SELL OUT STADIUMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAMES!!!! There are more things to do here on the west coast.

Thanks for posting the attendance data. I actually was curious about it. If you have the data of USC home attendance I would be curious to see that too. I could not find it for last season on the Pac 10 web site. I "think" USC averaged over 70,000. Maybe even close to 80,000.

*Wouldn't you say Miami is one of the best programs in the last 5+ years? Miami has HORRIBLE attendance for games. HORRIBLE!

In my opinion the only conference that can maybe use the NFL as an excuse for their poor attendance would be the Big East. The 50+ year waiting lists for season tickets to the Jets, Giants, Eagles, and Redskins sums up how the people in the northeast feel about the NFL.

Can't really use the NFL as an excuse for the California schools in my opinion, since when both the Rams and Raiders were in LA they weren't supported anyway. Being passionate about football is something that is rooted at the junior high/high school level -- I'd be willing to bet that the % of boys playing football is much higher in the south than in the West. My guess is other sports at that level are more popular in California.

Good call, Scott or JimmyBuff or whatever you call yourself these days. There is nothing to do in New Orleans(which happens to be where the bulk of the 91,000 fans who pack Tiger Stadium on Saturday nights come from), I can assure you:rolleyes:

It is a shame that the ban was lifted.

Point of information: Miami is a private school, and their overall attendance doesn't compare to those other "larger" schools. They have an undergraduate & graduate enrollment of 15,000 students. (less than 7,000 undergrads!) They are similar to Stanford. (14,200 grad/undergrad enrollment) Incredible learning institution, and even more astounding that they compete the way that they do athletically. Stanford I would say is at the top of the list as far as academic/athletic standards. Just my opinion.

Also - for USC to average near 80,000 in attendance for home games last year would be a wet dream. The Coliseum holds 92,000 people, but that is without all of those big tarps in the End zone that spell out "TROJANS". With those huge letters letting everyone on national tv know that it's the Trojans field now, and not the Raiders anymore. (They finally get to call it their home, and no one elses!)
The capacity of the Coliseum on a Saturday game day in Southern California is 68,000 - that's CAPACITY. Every game that I saw didn't come close to 70,000 let alone AVERAGING close to 80,000 :142lmao: . I know the home average is not in the neighborhood of 70,000. They'd be lucky to AVERAGE 65,000. Every time I wanted to get a ticket to one of their games, I've been able to either buy one on game day, or get one from a scalper for less than face value. I'm not sure how many games you've gone to outside of the Pac 10 conference, or WAC, but it is a BIOTCH to get a ticket on game day just about anywhere East of Nevada. Try going to the ticket window on Saturday in Knoxville. . . There's no one there - because they're closed! :142lmao: I think that you might have a little myopia clouding your judgement on how many people actually go to the games. Also, while we're on the subject - when are they going to put some of that $$$MONEY$$$ back into the Coliseum. That place is a DUMP! Yeah -I know the history, but it's starting to look like the ORIGINAL Coliseum and should probably be condemned. The least that they could do is renovate it, or give it a good paint job - I would be embarassed to play in that crapper they call a stadium, let alone have a visiting team come in there to watch a game.

I can tell you that I do not have a little myopia clouding my judgment when judging your intelligence. You have NO credibility! I hope your handicapping is better than your judgement on crowd sizes! :lol2

I kept asking myself the same question. Master Capper says a lot of off the wall things. :sadwave:

The latest MC said was the Pac 10 has no tough home field environments. What a bonehead comment. :banghead:

But nothing will top what trump tight posted and my reply tearing his post and his credibility into shreds. :142lmao:

Hard to compare conf winning %'s when the SEC & Big 12 schedule nearly all home games OOC. Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn & LSU all failed to schedule a single OOC road game between them next yr. When La-Monroe, Ark St & Troy St are coming in, those wins dont mean shit. Come to think of it, I wonder where the vast majority of those Sun Belt losses came from? It's impossible for them to be anything other than .500 v each other. Hmmmm???

I'm glad that wasnt another "checkmate" or "that's what separates the men from the boys" type comparison.

Among Libtards!!
the # of people in the stands isn't what is important....it's what those # of people do when they are there. Notre Dame has been sold out every game for some 20+ years......that is 80,000 people (60,000 before the expansion) but it is one of the most subdued and laid back crowds you'd ever witness. There are so many old people...old alums with big money....those that have had season tickets for too long who still go to the game because it is a status statement. These old phucks won't cheer.....won't yell....they sit down for all of the game (I go to a game or two a year and I get asked to sit down every year by some old ND backer who wants to sit on his a$$ and hands and watch a nice game in peace and quiet)....this is part of why ND Stadium is not an intimidating place to play anymore. Look at Oregon....small stadium (50,000 I believe) but the crowd is wild and it is one of the hardest places to go into and win. I think #'s are great....but how those #'s respond and act during the game are what makes or breaks a lot of places in terms of tough place or not to play. :jump:
