ACC

Clemson
Sophomore starting CB Justin Miller suffered a hip pointer in the fourth quarter as he tried to make a tackle near the Clemson goal line. He will be re-evaluated Monday as to his status for this weekend?s game at Georgia Tech.

Maryland
Senior tailback Bruce Perry, who has missed most of this season with a high ankle sprain, skipped his scheduled treatment session on Sunday. Head coach Ralph Friedgen didn?t seemed concerned, however, as he explained that Perry went home to Philadelphia for a couple days to attend to some family matters. Perry?s status for the Terps? next game is still in doubt.

NC State
Junior starting WR Sterling Hicks, who sat out the Wake Forest game with a broken hand, suffered a torn ACL during Saturday?s triple-overtime loss to Ohio State. The injury will shelve Hicks for the remainder of the season, but the junior should be able to gain back the lost year by petitioning the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver.

Big East

Syracuse
Sophomore starting tailback Damien Rhodes rushed 11 times for 71 yards during Saturday?s loss to Louisville, but is still suffering the ill effects of sprained left ankle. The coaching staff is concerned over Rhodes? lack of progress with the ailing ankle and is considering resting the starter for a period of time, which could result in him missing a game or two. ? Head coach Paul Pasqualoni is still awaiting word from the NCAA on the academic status of starting WR Jamel Riddle. Pasqualoni hopes that the matter will be resolved this week.

Temple
Senior starting tailback Makonnen Fenton suffered broken ribs during the Sept. 6 overtime loss to Villanova last weekend. The injury is expected to keep Fenton sidelined anywhere from four-to-six weeks. In his absence, junior Jamil Porter will take over the starting role, while sophomore Sean Szarka may also get some additional carries.

Miami, Fla.
True freshman WR Devin Hester, who missed last weekend?s game against ECU, returned to practice on Sunday, but is still questionable for Saturday night?s contest at Boston College. Meanwhile, sophomore starting fullback Quadtrine Hill, who separated his shoulder during the victory over Florida, is making good progress and could return this weekend. Both players will be evaluated later in the week.

Pittsburgh
Junior starting center Justin Belarski missed last weekend?s contest against Ball State with a stress fracture in his foot and he is questionable for this Saturday?s game against Toledo. Senior Rob Frederick filled in for Belarski, but is still bothered by his own stress fracture injuries he suffered during preseason camp. Depending on Belarski?s and Frederick?s status, head coach Walt Harris may need to move some players around on the Panther O-line.

Big Ten

Michigan State
The status of starting QB Jeff Smoker for this weekend?s game against Notre Dame is in doubt. Smoker injured his right toe in the first quarter then left the game in the second quarter after sustaining an injury to his ribs. X-rays revealed no break in Smoker?s big toe, but the toe is still severely swollen and head coach John L. Smith lists Smoker?s chances of playing this Saturday as ?50-50?. If Smoker is unable to go, redshirt freshman Drew Stanton will get the start, ahead of junior Damon Dowdell, against Notre Dame this Saturday.

Penn State
Senior starting TE Casey Williams will be lost for the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee during Saturday?s loss at Nebraska. ? Also, sophomore starting DT Tamba Hali sprained his ankle during Saturday?s contest. His status is currently in doubt for this weekend?s game against Kent State.

Purdue
Junior starting WR Taylor Stubblefield, who leads all Boiler receivers with 23 grabs in the first two games, suffered a high ankle sprain late in the first half of Saturday?s win over Wake Forest and did not return to the field. Stubblefield had his leg in a temporary cast following the game, but still expects to play in this weekend?s contest against Arizona.

Wisconsin
Junior star tailback Anthony Davis suffered a sprained left ankle on his second carry in Saturday?s game against UNLV and had his ankle placed in a protective walking boot for the remainder of the afternoon. His status for the North Carolina contest this weekend remains in doubt, however, as head coach Barry Alvarez has not released information regarding the injury. If Davis is unable to go, he will be replaced once again by sophomore Dwayne Smith.

Big XII

Colorado
After suffering a right shoulder injury during Saturday?s loss to Washington State, sophomore starting QB Joel Klatt is listed as doubtful for this weekend?s contest with Florida State. Klatt, expected to be sidelined until the Oct. 4 game against Baylor, will be replaced by Sophomore Erik Greenberg, who filled-in for Klatt after the injury forced the starter to the sidelines early in the third quarter. In addition to starting QB Joel Klatt?s injury, the Buffs will be without the services of senior starting tailback Bobby Purify for Saturday?s game at Florida State. Purify suffered a high ankle sprain during the loss to Washington State this past weekend. He will be replaced by sophomore Brian Calhoun, with sophomore Lawrence Vickers moving into the top backup role.

Oklahoma
Senior starting MLB Lance Mitchell suffered an apparent torn ACL to his left knee during Saturday?s game against Fresno State and will most likely miss the remainder of the season. Junior Gayron Allen, sophomores Wayne Chambers and Clint Ingram, and freshman Lewis Baker will compete this week in practice for the chance to replace Mitchell?s vacated starting role during this weekend?s contest with UCLA. Mitchell, who played as a true freshman, has not played in over 20 percent of the season and will, therefore, be able to take a redshirt and return in 2004.

Baylor
Junior starting DE Khari Long left the game after just the second play with torn cartilage in his knee. The injury will most likely force Long to miss the rest of the season.

MAC

Marshall
Junior starting QB Stan Hill, who sat out last Friday?s loss with a sprained left knee, will remain on the sidelines for Saturday?s contest at Kansas State. Head coach Bob Pruett hinted that Hill is not at full strength and that junior Graham Gochneaur will once again get the start. Gochneaur was 31-of-39 for 289 yards with one TD and two picks during last Friday?s home loss to Toledo.

Mountain West

BYU
Sophomore starting QB Matt Berry is expected to be out of action for at least three weeks after suffering a broken bone in his throwing hand during last Saturday?s 10-7 win over New Mexico. Berry had screws inserted to secure a fracture near his little finger and will have his hand in a hard cast for another 10 days. Redshirt freshman John Beck will get the nod as the starter for Saturday?s game against Stanford, whereas junior Todd Mortensen will be the No. 1 backup.

Pac-10

Arizona
Fifth-year senior starting RT Brandon Phillips will undergo an MRI, today, on his right knee, but it is likely that he is done for the year with an apparent ACL injury. The injury took place during the first quarter of Saturday?s loss to Oregon. Starting sophomore RG Kili Lefotu will move into Phillips? vacated spot and redshirt freshman Keith Jackson will take over the RG spot.

Oregon State
An MRI revealed no serious damage to the left knee of junior star RB Steven Jackson, who hobbled out of Saturday?s game late in the fourth quarter with an apparent knee injury. The diagnosis is a mild sprain, and Jackson has already been cleared, by team doctors, to play in Saturday?s home game against Boise State.

UCLA
Junior starting cornerback Matt Clark was held out of Saturday?s contest with Illinois after the bruins learned, on Friday, that there were questions surrounding Clark?s academic eligibility. Clark was given academic clearance prior to the season, but it is now believed that Clark failed to meet the standard. School officials would not go into detail on the specifics, but did state that the issue wouldn?t be able to be resolved until sometime this week.

SEC

Florida
After missing the first three games of the season with knee injuries, the Gators are expected to return junior backup RT tackle Jonathan Colon and junior backup RG Anthony Guerrero. Colon and Guerrero?s presence will allow the Gators to return everyone to their original positions and will add much-needed depth to the offensive line heading into this Saturday?s contest with Tennessee. Senior starting RB Ran Carthon is still nursing a sore shoulder, which could lead to redshirt freshman DeShawn Wynn making his first collegiate start against Tennessee on Saturday. Carthon bruised the shoulder during the first half of last weekend?s game and was given only a limited amount of reps in Monday?s practice. In last Saturday?s win over Florida A&M, Wynn rushed for 95 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Georgia
Junior starting WR Fred Gibson, who wasn?t expected to play this past Saturday, started the game at split end, but re-aggravated the hamstring injury that had kept him out of practice last week. According to head coach Mark Richt, Gibson will definitely be sidelined for this weekend?s clash with LSU, which will allow him three weeks to rehab before the Bulldogs? next game on Oct. 4.

South Carolina
Head coach Lou Holtz is placing the starting QB position up for grabs in practice this week. Junior incumbent starter Dondrial Pinkins, redshirt freshman Bennett Swygert and true freshman Blake Mitchell will all be given equal snaps with the first-team offense. Meanwhile, JUCO transfer Michael Rathe will assume duties with the scout team. Holtz said he hopes that a clear starter will emerge in time for Saturday?s game against UAB.
