A reporter in the local fish-wrap was pontificating on the weekend games. He made some points about a game I like and I paraphrased and added a few of my own thoughts. For those with a betting interest in this game, here is food for thought. I think the Colts can handle the Pat?s, and here?s why:

Turnovers: No one can guarantee that the Colts won?t turn the ball over, but they have proven the DON?T turn the ball over. They finished the regular season with a league leading +19 turnover ratio and had second fewest giveaways with 17. In the seasons?s opener, Manning threw 1 interception and James fumbled twice?.all inside the Pats 23 yard line. When they weren?t turning the ball over, the Colts were marching up and down the field. They had 28 first downs, 446 total yards?and that was with Law, Poole and Seymour in the lineup.

Pats Health: Ty Law has been a thorn in Mannings side for some time. He has intercepted Manning 7 times in 11 games, including 3 in last season?s AFC title game. With Law and Poole out, the Pats won?t have either of their regular corners. I know they have played without them most of the season, but they haven?t faced an offense with as many weapons as the Colts. Belichick is understandably tight-lipped about Seymour?s availability, but the 11th hour signing of Pittsburgh castoff Hank Poteat reaks of desperation.

Mugging: One of the biggest reasons N.E. went to last years Superbowl was the zebras allowed them to manhandle Indy?s receivers. It was the grabbing and clutching of that game, and others, that made the NFL adopt the no-contact rule beyond 5 yards. The result: Points, yards, completion %, and passer ratings soared this year?.and no one took greater advantage of it than the Colts with their talented array of quick, surehanded receivers.

These points have stated several times already, most notably in GM's thread where he professes NE as his 'biggest NFL play ever'. It's good information just the same.

Now it's come to light that the Patriots have bee leaving the field uncovered in hopes of turning it into a semi-frozen, goopy mess.
You can smell the fear in New England. They've got to do every little thing that they possible can to have any hope of slowing down the Colt attack.

Tom Brady is a good quarterback. I can't emphasize the word 'good' enough in his case. He is nowhere near the level of Peyton manning. Yes, he has his rings, but so what? Brady is a heir who is indebted to the stellar defense New England has fielded in years past. Many, many quarterbacks could have went along for that ride, with that team, with that defense, with that coach, and won two superbowls. So there's really no argument as to who the better QB is. Peyton OWNS Brady.

Sunday will be Peyton Manning day. New England has 2 rings in the past three years and a WS Championship to boot. They'll go down without much of a fight after Indy opens up a 14 point lead. :)

PS.. If I see one more person take the colts +2......My god, don't be fools..Take the ML.

wow. youre certainly entitled to your opinion and i mean no disrespect whatsoever.

but what you said is absolutely preposterous.

"peyton owns brady?"

"brady has rings, so what?"

"many quarterbacks could have gone along for that ride"

i pretty much despise everything about boston/new england/etc (after belichick left cleveland for ne, ramirez to the red sox, etc)

but tom brady is the best quarterback in the nfl right now when the chips are down.

if anything, manning is nowhere near brady when it comes to winning big games.

this is i think youre looking at pedigree instead of what a quarterback is actually doing when it counts most.

how many playoff games does this guy have to win before hes considered what he is: the best quarterback in the nfl.

look at the guys hes throwing to. look at the guys he was handing the ball off to before dillon got there.

i have no stake in this game whatsoever. im just gonna watch it. both qbs are very good.

but ill take brady over peyton manning in a big game every day until proven otherwise.

Gman for once I disagree brother...Imagine Peyton was put in the situation where Brady is today, with Belichek giving him a defense where he wouldnt have to throw for 5 Td's to win and when he did have a big game he would be able to sit out the 4th quarter because Bill and the boys clamped down the other team to 7-10 points...I disagree, Peyton Manning is the BEST QUARTERBACK IN THE NFL...If their was a fantasy draft, ANY GM in the league would take Manning first, he is a proven quarterback...Brady on the other hand is a proven winner, by no means does that make him a better quarterback in the sense of playing the actual position and his arm strenght etc, but he plays the role better when it comes to how it orchestrates the rest of the team BECAUSE of the particular team hes on...Everyone says Peyton cant win big games, but hey, hes only half way through his playing days....maybe this weekend will be his first big one

You are either deliberately trying to get a rise out of people or you and your 12 posts have lost all credibility on this board...

this is precisely my point.

fantasy football doesnt take into account:

1) wins
2) toughness
3) composure under pressure

obviously, manning is friggin good. he rang up obscene numbers. his pedigree is as good as there could possible be. and he certainly is the best fantasy football qb.

but if i have the ball on my 10 yard line with 1:30 to go and i need to get into FG range, give me brady over manning anytime. he's done it time and again, and in both super bowls. hell, he did it against the rams as a 17 point underdog with 1:00 to go and got vinatieri in FG range when everyone said they should just take a knee and go to overtime.

regardless, i respect your opinion and i guess its a matter of preference, because both are good.

one thing i do know though. manning doesnt 'own' anyone. he might be the best, but he certainly has ownership of no man or team.

I think Brady is clutch... He has carried that offense for some time. When I think about Brady and Manning, the first thing I think about is past playoff performances. Manning has a bunch of big games running up the score ect, but he also usually has the one game where he falls to pieces. Brady on the other hand seems unstoppable on that last crital drive... If Manning throws a pick early or starts off bad in this game..., I think the Pats cruise... JUst can't see the Colts 29th rated defense slowing down Brady... He will pick them to pieces...

Preciscley my point...Brady never has had to play from behind, not at a large scale...If his Defense were finally to give up on him one day, and hes down by 21 he would NEVER BE ABLE TO commence a shootout and bring them back...Tell that to Manning last year on MNF against the SUPER BOWL CHAMPION Bucs who at the time had one of the most respected and feared defenses in history who made the MVP the year before look like a fool, and then Manning comes back and lights them up...Brady is clutch with 1:30, yes I a gree, but surround anybody with a few decent team players and a solid D and Heath Shuler could get you in FG position with 1:30 left when your team has SHUT DOWn the other team ...I guess everyone has their preference

..Brady is clutch with 1:30,

This isn't going to be settled in this thread, but some of these statements are not accurate. Remember wk.#15..Pat's vs. Miami. Here's the final scoring:

New England Patriots at 1:23, (1st play from scrimmage 1:17)
1-10-NE 24 (1:17) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady sacked at NE 15 for -9 yards (96-D.Bowens).
Timeout #2 by NE at 01:09.
2-19-NE 15 (1:09) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass intended for 87-D.Givens INTERCEPTED by 20-A.Freeman at NE 37. 20-A.Freeman to NE 23 for 14 yards (61-S.Neal).

Feeley takes a knee to end the game!

I'll admit that one game doesn't define a QB's career, but Brady didn't perform in the clutch and he had the ball with less that 1:30 as mentioned...Peyton doesn't own Brady, they're both excellent. The difference as I tried to point out in the initial post is the Manning has way more weapons than Brady and the rules favor the colts in that way. Indy is no lock especially with their pourous defense, but I look for Manning to out perform Brady this week a win a close one.....

Sunday night....we'll know

This game is a toss up with arguments on both sides.

The game that really got me on Mannings side was the Tampa Bay game that Monday night.

He could not be stopped and put on a QB performance I had not seen in a long time. Montana could do it. Manning is in that league.
Plus he is so football savvy.

Got to respect NE here at home. I lost this game last year when I took the Colts. Not the same this year though and I think NE feels the heat, on a snowy cold field this weekend.
