The reason I ask about the router is the "Renewing your IP address" part sounds suspiciously like it cant find the DHCP server on the network which assigns IP addresses to each node in the network (i.e. each computer) this is USUALLY in the system router. You connect the comcast cable modem to the router and then you can hard connect to the router with your desktops and laptops, or you can let the wireless devices ask Mama for an address once they have the address they can begin networking.
ummmm....i think so????? would that be the Linkseys thing that comcast installed? right now we have one desktop that is connected to it and one laptop and one desktop that aren't wired.
it MIGHT confuse me??????????? oh, if you only KNEW how comfused i am
don't understand a word of your post following this one. does it mean something along the lines of hooking up the linkseys thingy to the new laptops instead of the desktop that it's hooked up to now?
it shows not connected, and to right click for more options....that is basically what takes me to the network setup wizard, but from there i'm still lost.
it gives me choices of Use a USB flash drive (recommended)
using this method, you create network settings once and save them to your flash drive. Then you use the flash drive to add more devices and computers to your network.
OR
Set up a network manually
using this method, you must set up each computer or device separately.
yes....we had comcast come in and do the hookups shortly before Christmas. they put the router in with one of the desktops, plugged something into the other desktop and into my laptop (COMPAQ Presario 2100) my laptop runs fine and dandy wireless... few days ago, bought laptops for both the kids....they are eMachines (maybe some sort of Best Buy brand??) those are the ones i'm trying to get up and running on comcast.
