It always amazes me when coaches have absolutely no idea how to manage a game - take the end of the 1st half in last night's game for instance:

Uconn had the ball around midfield with about 4:30 left in the half - they knew coming in that they had to keep the ball away from WVU to have any kind of a chance, and despite not really adhering to that particular type of gameplan, found themselves down only 10 late in the half

Uconn had a 2nd and 7 and, despite having proven that they could run effectively against the 'Neers, had their QB take a deep drop and he was sacked - they followed that play with a screen pass in which the RB ran out of bounds to give WVU the ball with over 4 minutes left

If you are Edsall, you have to understand that you cannot give the other team the ball back in that situation with any type of time on the clock - you have got to call a play to gain some yards and keep the clock running - basically they had 3 downs to make 7 yards and even if they didn't, bleed the clock so as to go into halftime down only 10 - you could even run the screen play on 2nd and 7 and instruct your players to make sure they are tackled in bounds - very easy to see for a guy watching the game from his couch, how is it that a professional coach doesn't understand? Really hard to fathom - Edsall took his team directly out of the game at that juncture

Anyway - on to today and another coach who has absolutely no f'n idea what he is doing - John L Smith - this guy is an absolute joke and in my opinion, there is no way that he will have his team ready to play today - his team has run through its slate of big games and has come out with a lovely 0-4 mark (with a HC loss to Illinois thrown in for good measure) - now they head to NWestern and are supposed to be pumped up for this game? These idiots still think that they can waltz into NW and win without a problem, I guarantee it - I know NW is very bad but folks I have news for you, so is Mich St, even thought they have the talent to compete in the Big 10, and the reason is JL Smith - I also understand that this is a big revenge spot for MSU, again I simply and firmly believe that the green team will not be ready to play and that is not a good thing against a gimmicky run attack like NW

5 Units NW +8
1 UNIT NW ML +270

May have a couple more later, gl no matter which teams you decide to play

Well add Fitzgerald to the list - didn't get to see it but if a team loses a 35 point lead in the second half chances are the game management wasn't pretty - laughable

La i agree whole heartily with your post and it seems like it never changes. Some coaches do things that are mind boggling
