Which sport do you think requires the most "skill?" I think golfers have the most skill out of any other athletes. I've played a lot of sports in the past and still do. Golf is one sport I still have not mastered. I'm not saying I've mastered other sports and will make 9/10 free throws or hit 8/10 pitches into the outfield, but I believe good golfers have more skill than any other athletes.
Is it harder for Tiger Woods to stick the ball 7 feet from the cup on an approach shot than it is for Barry Bonds to hit a homerun, Wayne Gretsky to make four goals in one game, or Michael Jordan to accomplish a triple double?
Just curious what everyone thinks...

I agree there is a lot of skill in golf, but I think a high skill level and athleticism are confused so often. You can take a look at Monty, Mickelson, Tim Herron, and many others and know the golfers are not in top physical form.

This doesn't have anything to do with top physical form. I'm not that fit but give me a basketball and could hit 5/10 free throws and run up and down a court, it's been done. I probably should rephrase my first post.
You're right SixFive, what I meant to ask is - What sport requires the highest skill level?
Take away physical form and let's look at skill level.
Andre The Giant was one of the best wrestlers, he made it look real and he was a huge pile of waste.

I think to be an above average NBA basketball player would be the toughest. There are guys in the league that are there simply because of height, but those guys usually get weeded out in the end.

well sorry guys and this is a proven fact by studies at more then one university mit was one, hitting a baseball is the single hardest feat in any sport and a baseball player can play any sports because of the had eye cordanation and the split sec timing it takes to react in fielding or hitting the time the eyes and mind can think if pitch is ball or strike and to swing or not is under .67 secs then fielding a ground ball eyes and brain also works under a sec to have body move left or right and to get glove down flat or mid float for short hop. you watch any college and up player and they can play almost all sports at a good skill, check out a fb player or wrestler try to shoot hoops or baseball same as a track star .

soccer players came in 2 in the many studies followed by nhl players then fb.

don't belive it call mit.

.....................................

I have read this also and fletcher is correct.

And maybe even more difficult is hitting a baseball game when wagering. For me thats next to impossible.

I agree. Hitting a baseball on a fairly consistent basis is the toughest act in sports that I can think of. Golf is a hard sport to master, but hitting even an 80mph pitch is something totally different.

fletcher, thanks for the input, I guess there is no way I'm going to argue with statistics.
Have you played most sports in high school, leagues or college?
I have, I was just giving my opinion.
I have played baseball, football and golf all throughout high school and on different leagues.
Baseball came the easiest for me, I'm not bragging, I am just better at baseball than I am on the golf course - ya know what I mean? I don't want to bore anyone, but here's a little background about me.
I was a star left fielder, I caught everything that can near me, whether in the air or by ground. I have an amazing arm and I could hit. I couldn't tell you the exact numbers but I ALMOST threw out more people at home than our shortstop had outs going to first base, one season. Year after year I was always in the top five for batting percentages also. Luck? I don't know. I'm just saying, it was easier for me.
BUT........long before I played baseball, I remember my father had a golf club in my hand as far back as I can remember. And I've kept playing golf since. I was the only freshman in high school who made the varsity golf team, I didn't even think I was good.
I sucked at football cause I was so small, so that career ended fast. LOL.
STILL....golf is personally taking me forever to get everything to come together.

Just my two cents.

Hoops:
That is a very good point. When I played baseball it was years ago. We were younger, pitches were in fact slower. I just came easier to me, that's all.
I definitly would not be that baseball star again. LOL.

i golf also have since age 11, golf is a harder over all sport to master when you get to a certain point, lot of fime tuning and need to be on range everyday working on things and also as with any sport if you have a flaw in any part of swing even grip it will show and most people either try to fix on own which is very hard insted of going to a pro and pay to have part of game fixed, but most people are only going to get so good at any activity or sport , very few can become a pro, it takes hard work some god gifted skills and then even if you are good and have that still takes being at the right place at the right time. also in golf i bet i could be wrong but i would say you cost yourself 4-5 strokes a round by trying to do to much with a shot ex deep ruff with 2 trees in front 165 to green maybe water to the right insted of punching out into fairway you might try to split the trees with a 5 iorn and hit tree kick back behind where first shot was from or glance the back part of left tree and land in water, the thinking and trying to make more then we or most can on a shot can cost you a good 5 strokes a round, same as short game and putting anyone with some work can drive and hit the long iorns but 125 and in kill them. putting how many times should you be on and 2 putt but don't practices and get the 3 putts so golf is a very refined skill game and have to know your limits or you will cost yourself, but it is fun to try to cut off 70 yards on a hole by trying to hit ball 275-290 over the water and you know if you catch it clean you can but the safe shot is to hit a 2 iorn but you don't and maybe 1 out of 10 times you carry it by a knats nut the other 9 times you have to take a drop and lose 2, then your next shot you try to muscle up on and hit the 150 yard screaming worm burner. so no doubt golf is tuff in a very refined way. it plays with the mind if you let it.

flecther, that was a good post. You're absolutely right, maybe that's why I haven't "mastered" my own golf game yet. I don't know how many times I thought my skill was better than it was. "Sure, I can make this shot", trying to impress everyone and end up costing myself a bogie or double bogie. I need to just relax, play my own game and hope I can shoot under par by the time I'm 50.
