My viewsonic monitor is making a SSssssing noise and sort of goes a shade darker and then lights up again. I think it's going out. Anybody know more about this? Is there an easy fix? Is it time to buy a new one? Good deals right now?

Could be a power supply problem. If your power cord disconnects from your monitor, you could try replacing it. Have saved 2 monitors and CPU's with this little trick.

If not you could have a short inside the frame.

If that's the case, it is definitely a fire risk and I would take that monitor

outside

If you post the serial number and model number I can check the warranty info here at work.

Otherwise most 17 inch LCD are less than $150. 19's you can find good ones for less than $220.
