I hope someone can help me out here. I have high speed connection and sign on using internet explorer. Google pops up and in about 5 seconds, I get 5 boxes that all say the same thing....

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program:C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Then, it has me close it, and all 5 boxes laying on top each other with this wording in it go away, and Google is gone as well.
Does anyone have an idea what I need to do? If I sign on with AOL, I don't get the messages and all is fine, so it must be an Internet Explorer issue. Thanks in advance for your answer if you have one.

Even if it is genuinely an Internet Explorer issue, it could have affected adversely any other component of your system, because Micro$oft has so well integrated IE into their operating systems. Without openly admitting it (they know in their own hearts that their butts would get sued to no end if they did) Micro$oft had done quite a bit to 1) Hide the truth from its consumers, and 2) Have indirectly tried to provide all kinds of these, ummm, "work-arounds".
It appears you have fallen victim to one of these "Work-Arounds".

This is typical of an ODBC conflict. Microsoft recommends removing the related .mdb files in the directory of the application in question, i.e., the accounting, game or other utility software which is interacting with IE.

The problem is the statement of your issue is insufficient to determine which.

A few more detailes woule be helpful:

1. What Operating System??? Win2K??? Win XP Home??? Pro??? Win98??? WinME???
2. WHen did this problem manifest itself???
3. What is the last event on this machine before the problem manifested itself???
4. If the anser to #3 is the the installation of additional software or upgrade to esistivn software, then what is the name of the software???

Thanks KMA...it is Windows 98, and the last thing I loaded was Real One Player that I know of. My kids do get on the computer, but not sure if that caused it. Any way to find out? Totally appreciate your help. Any info I can give you?

Seriously, don't even bother using IE.

Install this browser, where IE hasn't added any new features in the past couple of years...Firefox is leading the forefront in terms of new functionality.

Install Firefox, and remove any shortcuts to IE and even move the IE link in your Start menu to some obscure spot so your wife/kids don't use it (you can't uninstall it).

Mozilla Firefox

If you like it, you should look at their Thunderbird email client as well and use it instead of Outlook. Outlook is a haven for viruses.

All of this stuff is free.
