came home today, and miraculously, there was crap on my computer. 3 windows were open (I left my computer on with no windows open before I left for work). One was for a sex search, another for some kind of spyware deleting service, and another for some fastclick service. ANother message popped up about making sure my computer is safe, and the cd rom drive opened by itself!! The message then said something like "your computer could be corrupted if you have a disc in the drive"???????

I only went to sites yesterday that I usually frequent, and I NEVER click ok to change a site to my homepage when it pops up. This did happen a few weeks ago that somehow my homepage was changed, so maybe it's running a 2 week loop or something???? Frustrating, I know that. I also still have those other stupid viruses on my computer that I can't get rid of

follow up, my homepage was changed back again when I hit my internet explorer button. This is what the homepage was changed to:

http://default-homepage-network.com/index2.html The title of the page is REMOVE SPYWARE POPUPS FOREVER and the product endorsed is Spy Wiper.

A "web page dialog" box also popped up and it says, "WARNING!! If your Cd Rom drive opens (which mine did) you DESPERATELY need to rid your system of spyware popups IMMEDIATELY. Spyware programmers can control your computer hardware if you fail to protect your computer at this moment! Download Spy Wiper Now!!"

   I hate this crap, and I certainly would never download and pay for something that got onto my computer in this way.

Six Five,

a lot of times a virus will get stored in your system restore with windows, anti virus software often will not remove this. to remove this u need to do the following.

click on start
control panel
system
performance
file system
move system restore slider to minimum, then reboot your computer. once computer has rebooted go back and move slider for system restore back to original location.

good luck

Do a search for that site in your registry. When these spyware programs do this, most of the time they are adding a key into your registry to change your URL to that.

9 Warning Signs Of SpyWare & AdWare: Please Read

It is estimated that over 91% of all computers that have Internet access are
infected with Adware and/or Spyware programs. So the chances of your PC being
infected is quite high.

Press On The Link Below To Initiate A Complimentary PC Scan That Will Locate and
Aid You In Removing Any AdWare and SpyWare Programs:

Here are 9 warning signs you should be aware of, if any of them pertain to you
then your PC is most likely infected:

1) When you start your browser, the home page has changed to something
different than what you had it. You change it back manually, but before long you
find that it has changed back again.

2) You get pop-up advertisements when your browser is not running or when your
system is not even connected to the Internet, or you get pop-up ads that address
you by name.

3) Your phone bill includes expensive calls to 900 numbers that you never
made?probably at an outrageous per-minute rate.

4) You enter a search term in Internet Explorer's address bar and press Enter to
start the search. Instead of your usual search site, an unfamiliar site handles
the search.

5) A new item appears in your Favorites list without your putting it there. No
matter how many times you delete it, the item always reappears later.

6) Your system runs noticeably slower than it did before. If you're a Windows
2000/XP user, launching the Task Manager and clicking the Processes tab reveals
that an unfamiliar process is using nearly 100 percent of available CPU cycles.

7) At a time when you're not doing anything online, the send or receive lights on
your dial-up or broadband modem blink just as wildly as when you're downloading a
file or surfing the Web. Or the network/modem icon in your system tray flashes
rapidly even when you're not using the connection.

8) A search toolbar or other browser toolbar appears even though you didn't
request or install it. Your attempts to remove it fail, or it comes back after
removal.

9) And the final sign is: Everything appears to be normal. The most devious
spyware doesn't leave traces you'd notice, so scan your system anyway.

How Can SpyWare and AdWare Hackers/Companies infect your PC?

Your PC may be infected if you have ever downloaded screensavers, music, games,
video clips, images, and even those "smiley face" icons that have been going
around the past few months. Advertisers/Hackers offer these screensavers, music,
games, etc. for free in order to legally "trick" consumers into installing their
AdWare and SpyWare programs.

Heaven, oh!!, this isn't it?!
LL,
your link, is it the same as Ad aware and/or Spybot Search and destroy? I have had good luck with those two, and hate putting more than necessary on my drives.

Maybe its better? or does different things, love your thoughts and views on this!

thanks;)

Sixfive, I had this same thing happen to me about 3 months ago with the CD Rom door opening. I opened up IE, minimized it and ran Adaware and it took care of it. That SOB kept opening up on me for about 3 days before I got rid of it. I about shit the first time it happened, thought I was in deep doo doo. Didn't take long to get rid of it though.

finally figured out that adaware has to be UPDATED each time you use it   and I wasn't doing that   My computer had over 100 registry keys on it causing all my grief. The only thing I can not get rid of is one of my running processes titled

backWeb-7288971.exe

Thanks for the suggestions/help.

got this crap on my computer again. I haven't been to any weird sites either. Maybe there was like a 10 day delay for it to reinstall itself?? Ad aware got rid of 5 registry keys this time. Still think it might be related to whatever that backweb thing is.
