Computer Question....

Looks like my computer or ?? is fried. Would anyone know if it's just a matter of replacing the hard drive or ??. When I turn it on all I get is a BRIGHT BLUE SCREEN saying:

"Stop" 0x0000007B(0x814AD030,0xC0000032,0x00000000,0x00000000)
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it's properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I can't check for virues because I can't get on. My daughter has just bought a wireless computer and she had to get a modem so it can work off of my line? My computer was working for about 2-3 weeks after she had her's hooked up so I don't think this has anything to do with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm a real knob with this shit. Have been using my daughters when she's not around like now, but it's not the same. Can't get used to her laptop :nono: ....it is way to sensitive. This is being edited as I posted earlier but don't know how. Even if the cursor is over something it brings it to the screen...

does it just say "s" or more?
Do you have your comuter systems CD?

For example, if you had microsoft XP, do you have the XP CD?

Thanks DR....I posted way to early and don't know how. I've been shutting it down then when it strats up I keep hitting F8 as I remember someone perhaps your self saying something about that before. I don't have a CD. I've tried all the things listed:

Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last known Good Configuration, Boot Normally...etc

:shrug:

try safe mode with command prompt. When you get to C prompt type:

chkdsk /p


that will run a check disk on your computer, or should. Then tell us what it says

Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA Mode
Last Known Good Configuration
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows 2000 domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Boot Normally
Return to OS Choices Menu

forgot to say that when I do go to safe mode with command prompt it lists a bunch of lines that go to fast for me to see what they say as they disappear and it takes me back to the BRIGHT BLUE SCREEN.....thanks

I had someone give me a Dell laptop that did the same thing. He'd been back and forth with their tech support without any satisfaction and he was ready to toss it into the trash. I intervened with the thought that I might be able to salvage some parts or something. I obtained a copy of Windows XP and reinstalled the operating system. It's worked fine for me ever since. :shrug:

2 Steps: You need to get a XPCD to reinstall a new OS. Secondly someone who has the equipment to retrieve whatever files were lost.

try this....

To test hard disk or volume integrity

Method 1:

1. In the Run dialog box, in the Open box type:

cmd
2. Start the Chkdsk tool, which detects and attempts to resolve file system structural corruption. At the command prompt type:

chkdsk drive: /f

Method 2:

1. Double-click My Computer, and then select the hard disk you want to check.
2. On the File menu, click Properties.
3. Click the Tools tab.
4. In the Error-checking box, click Check Now.
5. In Check disk options, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box. You can also select the Automatically fix file system errors check box.

If the volume you are checking is in use, a message asks whether you want to delay disk error checking until the next time you restart your computer. After you restart, disk error checking runs and the volume chosen is not available to run other tasks during this process. If you cannot restart the computer due to the error, use safe mode or Recovery Console.

To all that have replied, because of your suggestions I've asked my son-in-law if he would ask his friend if he could possibly re-install for me, and he had said no problem, he'll come over and have a look at it and see what needs to be done. Thanks very much for the help.....greatly appreciated. Dr, that 5Starsupport is a site that should be put on everyone's favourites just in case.
