Just wanted to give congrats to all the Texas backers. Texas was well deserved to get in and definitely deserved to get there. I think its absoulely hilarious when people say that Mack Brown was classless for lobbying for his team. Thats like saying George Bush is classless for lobbying to vote for him. Whats the difference?? They each stand by the record of what they do. Does anyone really thing Mack Brown had anything to do with the outcome of the BCS?? Give me a break. The only reason Cal was even ahead of Texas was due to some of the voters voting Texas lower than they should have been especially that one who had Texas 9th because he was trying to help Auburn and moved them up to 5th just this week. If Cal would have taken care of business and blown out SMiss they would have had a chance and dont tell me they took a knee at the end. So what they would have won by MAYBE 17 if they scored; anyone that watched that game saw a team that COULD HAVE LOST. Southern Miss is a terrible team. Cal did not get in because of their play on the field. And if you want to say well we only had one loss and that was to the number one team in the country I would say tell me one other good team you beat. And remember ASU got beat by ZONA. The answer is 0.

That being said I think Michigan +6 is a good bet. I think the Michigan dbacks should be enough to keep them within the number.

This is the same media that has roasted Brown for being soft and not taking up for his team. They cant have it both ways. The lobbying didnt do anything - Texas didnt gain any ground in the polls after the AM game, which is when the press conference took place. Cal hosed themselves by playing like crap against a crap team when everyone was watching. They had a great year, but thats what happens.

As for the Michigan dbacks - you are presuming Texas would throw the ball?

I am no Mack supporter, but this tiem the anti-Mack folks are wrong.

Don't be dumb and forget about the quality wins against Iowa, UTEP, at Northwestern and everyone else that made us 8-3 b/c of a rivalry game that we dominated everything except the final score.

Cal didn't play 'that' badly against So Miss. Execution wasn't that sharp, but it very easily could/should have been a 17pt + game...if Tedford wanted to tack-on another score or that phantom clipping penalty wasn't called which took away another Cal TD.

They did gain 550 yards of offense (outgaining So Miss by 200 yards in the process), so while the scoreboard wasn't indicative of a blowout, they pretty much dominated the game.

They gave up over 300 yards passing to the 98th ranked offensive team in the country. A team that lost at home to Cincy by 30 plus. In a game they were favored by 26 points. It was just as close to a loss as it was to a blowout - 3 points off a blocked XP to tie the game with 5 minutes to go and the would-be 7 after SoMiss goes for it from their own 30.

Pretty funny that folks who say that about Cal have been roasting Auburn for giving up less than 300 yards to Tenn, 60 per cent of which came on 2 plays.

My reference to the def back is shazor and jackson wiill be able to play man all day long when Texas has to throw the ball and they are very physical Dbacks who will be instrumental in stopping the run. I do think Michigan is a little soft in the front seven which Ohio State exposed them and Vince Young is a lot better than Troy Smith. The key to the game IMO is how well Texas corners will be able to contain Edwards and company. I think that Texas will be able to contain Hart. Should be a really good game.
Also as far as ASU is concerned I always seem to forget about that Iowa game. They do deserve props for that game. Not sure what you mean about UTEP and NW they are terrible.

UTEP was in the top 25 this year for I believe 3 weeks...they aren't that good, but they are solid. Northwestern had some quality wins, most notably against Purdue.

So I guess that wasn't as impressive as winning by 8 pts and getting outgained at home to Missouri? Or getting a gift win at Kansas, who was down to their 3rd string QB?

Texas one game against an elite team, obviously Oklahoma, they laid an absoute goose egg. Cal beat USC on both sides of the ball, but didn't execute on special teams (which admittedly is part of the game).

So not beating Southern Miss by more than 10 pts lost them a BCS bid? Absolute joke.

Only reason Texas got the BCS bid, was a few coaches decided to vote Cal 7th and 8th in polls...an absolute joke. Coaches votes should be made public so there is some accountability.

tex is a solid ball club. they always struggle with oky. i think it goes to coaching. stoops owns mack brown. if anyone watched the game ou stacked the line, blitzed young and he couldn't handle it. oky had a ton of yds - the score was deceiving. there was at least one int by tex that bounced off the ground. regardless, i do not see how anyone can think the big 12 is not a stronger group than the pac 10. i am no guru, but i watch a shatload of football. i especially stay up late to watch the pac 10 , and i just do not feel they are as strong as a group. that being said, there is not a better qb,rb tandem than lineart/bush or rogers/arrington. the ou guys are very good, but white is no where as talented as the other qb's. i am sure i wil get blasted from the big 12 guys, but white is not too mobile, and i think he does not have the arm strength.

again, not knocking white as a qb, probably more of an estimate on his success at the next level.

Texas is a very good team. A bit one dimensional, but, regardless, a very good team.

Having said that, I think Cal is the better team. Much better balanced offensively, and I would rate the teams about equal defensively, though Cal has the slightly better numbers. Only area I would give Texas is special teams. Coaching...I don't think that needs any comment.

I'm not sure how the final numbers came out and whether or not these three votes would've made the difference, but the voters for the Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin papers all had voted Cal above Texas in the polls.... until the final weekend.

because of the final weeks performance by Cal...unfortunate because the argument should not have to be between UT and Cal. It should be Cal and Pitt or UT and Pitt, but not between the two deserving teams. I understand how a case can be made for both and I am happy that it went the way it did. I would be pissed if I was a Cal fan just like I was pissed last year as a Horn fan. System sucks, but do not try to throw this on the program or the kids. they obviously did enough to get the bid and hopefully they come out with a win and impress some people along the way. my only gripe is when people insist on bringing up the Kansas game, but do not mention the Oregon game. Apples to Apples on that one if you ask me. Yes, you can say they struggled against Ark., but before you comment on that game I ask you to attend Fayetteville when UT visits and tell me what you think...there is simply nothing like that place against UT. Ask the Hog fans about that rivalry and how intense it is.

anyway, good discussion on this one and I can not wait to watch them take on Michigan in the Rose....IF they beat Mich in Jan and OSU in September can they maybe be considered Big 10 champs so the OU game will not matter as much in October...hook em

What a crock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this game was played back in sept with S Miss (CLX"ed by Hurrican) and the score had been the same we wouldnt have seen this setut. Both Cal & Tex teams would have been off this week, Cal still would be 4 and receiving a BCS bid.

Sorry Cal you got Horned big time!

Some of you guys have to stop with this x beat y by only 3 and y beat z by 30 shit. It doesn't matter, each game is played one time.
