Conservatives, what can you criticize about the Dems proposed budget?

Interesting to note that the claims being made in the last election cycle by conservatives appear incorrect regarding what the Dems would do. No tax raise, no tax break repeal, no cuts to defense and fighting the war on terra. The worrisome Alternative Middle Tax has even been addressed to not attack upper middle wage earners for a longer period of time than Bush proposed. Now, don't get me wrong...I may very much find fault with a lot of this...probably do from a liberalistic view...but seems to cut off the doomsday critics here at the knees. Might even suggest some here were "moonbats?" :tongue

Highlights of the budget plan:

?This year's $248 billion budget deficit would rise to $249 billion next year. By 2012, it would be replaced by a $132 billion surplus.

?The Children's Health Insurance Program would get up to $50 billion more over five years, about $45 billion more than Bush proposed and enough to insure all eligible children. Education programs would get about $6 billion more than Bush proposed next year, and veterans programs would rise by about $3.5 billion.

?The Defense and State departments would get the full $142 billion Bush seeks in 2008 for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Democrats also kept Bush's proposed $481 billion defense budget, a $49 billion boost over this year.

?Tax rates would not be increased, but the budget would seek to clamp down on tax cheats and offshore tax shelters to raise new revenue. The alternative minimum tax, which targets the rich, would not raise taxes on the middle class for two years ? one year more than Bush proposes.

Any conservative worth his salt can see right through this, let's take it point by point:

1) Democrat budget surplus forecasts, no matter how rosy, only exist on paper. Just ask Bill.

2) Children and education are political favorites that know no limits by Dems, multiply the above by a factor of 10. Vets will gets any leftover scraps.

3) The first appeasement of our enemies (that means peace to Dems) they'll be looking to make cuts. Remember Bill spending the "Peace Dividend"? Next thing we had military families on food stamps.

4) Lastly, if you think the Dems are going to leave the "rich"(Dems think $30,000 a year is rich) alone, when they already pay 80% of the tax load in this country anyway, then you need to demand a refund for your public education. :mj07:

actually i believe they define "rich" at $200,000 per year. At least that was previously the group they wanted to take the tax cut away from. Not sure now, but I doubt it's off the mark from that by much.

Interesting take on things. But if you look at reality and what is actually being proposed, there is no reason to project your bias and make assumptions that really make no sense for the budget year in question.

1. Just ask Bill? You mean the guy, and the majority party, who created budget surpluses year after year? Ok, I agree, seems like a good person and good people to make that happen. Obviously, the President and administration before him and after him have no care about budget surpluses.

2. Damn, you nailed that one. The dems care a lot about children and education. I can't deny that, good point.

3. Appeasement of our enemies and making cuts. As I mentioned, this is the democrats budget proposal, and nothing is mentioned about cuts, so seems to me if the money is already being appropriated and the political stance being taken, that cuts won't happen this year. In future years? Who knows? Maybe so. The thing is, this President could give a crap less about any budget, he'll just take what he wants to do what he wants. I hope the Dems have a purpose and keep an eye on budget and expenditures. That would be refreshing, eh?

4. Not sure what you mean...in the proposed budget there is no repeal of tax breaks, no tax increase. Your comment is based on personal bias and not fact, on this subject. Much like the rest of your theory. I would agree they do seem to be going after the rich in a couple of commendable ways...you know the ones...the ones cheating on their taxes and taking their money offshore to avoid paying taxes. I can certainly accept democratic responsibility for trying to trying to deal with these rich people.
