Stallone Fights On to Save The Contender 5/26/05
Sylvester Stallone is refusing to give up the fight for his cancelled boxing show The Contender - he's determined to bring the concept back to TV.
Despite a cult following, the reality show failed to set the ratings alight and was cancelled by bosses at US TV network NBC earlier this month (MAY05).
The finale aired on Tuesday (24MAY05).
But Stallone is convinced the show, which pits amateur boxers against each other, can still be a hit show on another network and his partner, former fighter Sugar Ray Leonard is still in the fight too.
Stallone says, "The Contender's a hit. It's gonna have a home... and it'll come back stronger."
Some thoughts :
move to espn, i guarantee it would be a summer hit
show the entire fights, not just edited
bring in heavyweights
only allow boxers with hot girlfriends
don't try and go up against the american idol finale or abc sunday night programming. put it mid-week and the die-hards will watch it
..........too bad, i really liked the show
