We rented a video and forgot to return it before going on vacation for a 10 days. Since the fee was so high, they let us just buy the video.

Whenever we buy video's I make a copy using DVD shrink. I tried doing it for this video, and it gets 95% complete and then just hangs. Is there something that stops it from completing?

Is there different software I can use? I am not trying to burn it to a CD, just save on laptop.

Kansas City area for who knows how long....
The standard old software for ripping copy of your DVD to hard drive is DVD Decrypter. There are newer options available that crack more updated digital copyrite codes, but I've almost never run into problems with DVD Decrypter.

DVD Shrink takes longer, but you can edit the movie before saving. I use Shrink if I wanna strip out the previews crap or titles or navigation menu--I want to make a DVD copy that will just load and start right at beginning of movie. Or if I'm feeling cheap and wanna split a double-layer DVD into two single layer DVDs.

But if Shrink hangs up, there's a good chance other ripping programs will too. I've had DVDs that played and viewed alright, but hung up and could never rip copy of on either. But that not always the case...

I also use DVD Shrink, but sometimes it can't get past the encrypting. In those cases I use DVD Fab. I did run into a movie, Transformers: Rise of the Fallen, that didn't work for either software. Not much of a loss if you've seen the movie.
