Not even close. Not under a month. Probably not under two. We were in there for 60 days last time (or so -- someone is sure to correct me if I'm wrong) and that was a mission with a more clearly defined, and easier goal.

No way a week.

We're not leaving till we get to Baghdad. You could certainly drive from Kuwait to Baghdad in a week, but I don't think you take it over and declare victory in a week, not without being very cavalier.

Further, if they use chemicals, we'll move very slowly. We're hearing that they're basically going to roll over, but if that's not true, it's going to take longer.

And there's not necessarily going to be a nice neat end when we say its over. Their military certainly isn't as capable as ours, but 50000 guys with machine guns in a city is not easy. Its sounds like our military's worst fears is long drawn our urban warfare. How do fight people blending in with the citizenry in disconnected groups, striking from any location? What if we do roll in, and take over the government buildings or somethig?

My god, that guy in DC with the tractor has been there for two days and that's just a guy in a tractor in a puddle.

We're dealing with hundreds of thousands of Iraqi troops. Even IF they all surrender, the logistics of dealing with that while trying to get to Baghdad will be crazy.

Even when we get close to Baghdad, I think we'd shell the city for days before going in.

Now, I'm just speculating as you were. My speculations aren't based on any vast military knowledge, but we're going into another country and trying to take over their capital. No way a week.

On the course!

I think they will roll over. The only ones who invite this war are the few zelots they have over there. We are led to believe that they are a maniacle nation of blood thirsty anti American gun slingers.

I believe they are a nation of people who wonder why their leaders are about to get them slaughtered. These guys will be surrendering in droves. I don't think 2% of these men want to "die for the cause".

Yes. We'll see I guess. If this republican guard digs in -- in and around Baghdad, I could imagine that's going to be quite a drawn out mess.

Completely speculating here, though. Really can't imagine the details. Like that article says, you never know when a big humanitarian crisis might just pop up. It's war. Shit gets ugly.

"the bunker"
the media playing tricks again

the media playing tricks again

the major media...in it`s always duplicitous manner, has been throwing around a week to 10 days....i haven`t heard any experts say a week to 10 days....they`d all have to give up for that to happen....the media is throwing around the week to 10 days stuff so they can all carp about how this war isn`t going as well or as quickly as was expected....it`s their own little win-win propaganda game to defame the war and the president.....and you can believe many of the reporters in and around iraq are chomping at the bit to report every possible military faux pas......i think we should all prepare for an avalanche of negative reporting......it`s inevitable....everything possible to turn public opinion against the war and especially bush.....i try and be fair, but the truth is that fox news is far right and most of the rest of the news outlets in america are moderate left to far left...

Length of War does not worry me. It's all the chit after the war that does.

i myself was worried about the afterwar in particular in Kosovo.....

think that situation's exit strategy would be much harder than the one in Iraq....

i personally dont think there are many in Iraq who will not accept freedom -- much like in Afghanistan....

plus if the UN moves in and everyone helps, wont be much of a problem....

my biggest fear is Al Quaeda inspired attacks on US soil timed with US first strike

one thing we gotta all remember is this....

we are all in this together....can agree/disagree as much as we want, but we are Americans and are in the greatest country ever to grace the earth....and yes we try to help those in need whenever we can and we should be applauded for that not criticized....call it arrogance/whatever...i call it American Loyalty, Patriotism, believing in something bigger than ourselves -- America is bigger than the sum of its individual parts....we are freedom and we stand for that and we will prevail no matter if we lose half our population to terror attacks...the idea of the American dream/freedom and justice for all will always stand and is always worth fighting and dying for.....

people who want to insult us for our beliefs, they can go to hell as far as i am concerned...calling me arrogant is ignoring the plank in ones own eye and focusing on the speck in my eye...and the French can kiss my ass....telling us you are our friends and showing it means a lot (Britian).....telling us you are our friends and not showing it (France, Canada Prime) means much more in the end and we will remember it

since terror can strike at anytime on anyone and we are all vulnerable as vulnerable can be, i say its time to sac up and yes be the rugged Cowboys that we are and defend the country and yes if our planes get hijacked or whatever we will gladly sacrifice our lives for our brothers and sisters in this great land.....and yes 99% of Americans would take a bullet for any of our other fellow countrymen so Hussein, bin Laden, or anyone else out there who wants to fvck with us and test our resolve bring it on cuz we are not a bunch of wusses that you may believe we are....

It was funny reading this seeing how wrong the Right wingers were, and how prolific the Dems were.

Especially When Alex P Keaton (Freeze) said something to the effect that the Iraqi's would welcome freedom like they did in afghanistan. Since we left afghanistan like Christ Left the Jews The Taliban is back and gathering strength.
