not really one myself, but i just got back from hearing Alan Jackson at the Rodeo......very good......also heard Pat Green......he is pretty good too.......Green is scheduled for Sat. here but Jackson had to cut his schedule a little short cuz of laryngitis so Green played a little too tonight......

they were pretty saddened by death of Waylan Jennings......played a song for him too......

anyways.....first time i have been to Houston rodeo....had a good time....pretty amazing thing to behold.....it woudl be well worth a vacation especially for northerners to come to Houston in February for rodeo, golf, and other stuff....

Freeze,

I'm not a big fan of county music myself, but I absolutely love the old chit.... (probably 'cause that's all I heard as a pup in the old man's pick-up truck....) ;)

The Hag, Red-eyed Willie, the Man in Black (Cash), David Alan Cole...but my favorite was always Waylan Jennings.... I was sad to hear of his passing.... :(

...just sitting here listening to Waylan as I type.... why? 'cause he's a "ramblin man...don't fool around with a ramblin' man.... You better move away, you're standin' too close to the flame.... Down in Alabama, they call me the man of joy...still do. Well, I'm a ramblin' man...don't mess around with any ole ramblin' man." :drinky:

Here's one for ole Waylan.... :toast:

"Well, there's one in every crowd...for cryin' out loud, why wuz it always turnin' out to be me?"

"Where does it go? The good Lord only knows. Seems like it was just the other day. I was down at Green Gables...hawkin' 'dem tables and generally blowin' all of my hard earned pay. While Annie rolled blues, I danced holes in my shoes...there weren't another other way to be...for loveable losers and no account boozers and Honkey Tonk Heros like me."

:toast:

p.s. Words of wisdom from Waylan, "The only two things in life that make it worth livin' is guitars a tuned good and firm feelin' women...."

...why can't I find "a good-hearted woman in love with a good-timin' man?"

I don't think Hank done it this way...the search continues. :toast:

Taoist,

I noticed that you edited this at 2:11 am in the morning.

Were you up drinking late last night listening to Waylon? I only found out about it yetserday afternoon and was really saddened by his passing. He is one of the first real greats to go. I guess his songs will live on in the stereos of degenerates all over, sitting up late, hittin the bottle, telling lies, and swatting flies!

:toast: to the old man! you will be missed!

seems country music has begun to go back into that nashville, overproduced, country music similar to what happened in the 1960s and early 70s. it took a few "outlaws" such as Willie, Cash, Waylon, Hank, and others to break the mold and produce some of America's best music. i dont know how people call some of the crap on CMT country music - it just isnt. I like newer artists (if you can call them that now - they've been around a while) like George Strait, Clint Black and Alan Jackson. but they even lack the attitude of "ill kick your ass if you mess with me or my friends" - with the passing of Waylon this week has made me realize there will never be another Willie, David Allan Coe, etc - however, Hank WIlliams III has hit the scene the past year and if you love good, ol' country honky tonk music, then i HIGHLY recommend you check out his 2 albums he has put out. he's a good mix of his daddy and grandpa.

"So don't ask me Hank, why do you drink?" "
"Hank, why do you roll smoke?"
"Why must you live out the songs that you wrote"
"Stop and think it over"
"Put yourself in my position"
"If I get stoned I'm just carrying on an old Family Tradition!"

...i totally agree, Monk...and i live in nashville.... seems like they're trying too hard to appeal to a larger and larger audience and it has become more pop 40 than country.... i will definitely have to check out Hank, III....

I tell ya one thing, If they ever start a country "boy band" , and I feel like it's coming on, We need to make a run on Nashville and change the music back to what it used to be, Beer drinking and shit kicking! I hate that sissy stuff they play now, I listen to AM radio were you can get the good OLD Stuff!

Just about all my fave country singers are female...

Nanci Griffith, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams.....

I like a lot of what may be termed alt-country - Jayhawks, Joe Henry, Uncle Tupelo etc... top stuff :)
