I am a die hard Cowboy fan....lived in Dallas, went to SMU, went to two of the Superbowl and NEVER miss a game. I live in MD now, travel to at least one game a year and bleed blue and grey. I type this because for the first time in....FOREVER...I was routing for a loss against Philly my most hated team. Is my thinking all screwed up or have you had this thought before??? Every other game I wanted the W...even Arizona...but Sunday was different as I had my sights on a top draft pick...especially when some other 5 win teams got W's like Detroit and San Fran beat Zona.

I mean...come on...Philly played second unit (no Vick, McCoy Jackson) and with a loss....was looking at a top 5 pick to get Patrick Peterson from LSU....the player we need most!! A meaningless TD at the end of the game was pointless! I am looking long term here. I could give a rats ass if we beat Philly in Philly in a total meaningless game. So it was good for moral, or to go out on a high note....FUCK THAT!! If they decide to stick with Garrett, than there was nothing to prove.

Maybe this should go in venting forum, but I still cant stop thinking about it since Sunday and needed to vent. This season has been a complete disaster for us fans. I know coaches, players and everyone wanted a W so I know I am in minority. Any time we can beat Philly....well that's GREAT, but not against scrubs in this spot.

Vikings did the same thing to their draft stock by beating Philly.. Was glad they beat Philly doesn't matter to me if Vikes pick 6 pr 12.. They have too many holes.

I am a die hard fan but to keep "thinking" about my team's failed draft status since Sunday is a bit Coo Coo

Too Funny - I remember a very similiar situation (albeit a while ago)....

Back in 1988, the last game of the year had the GB Packers in a meaningless last game (I think it was against the AZ Cardinals - I can't remember).

The deal was, lose the game, and we'd have the 1st pick in the draft - which was clearly going to be Troy Aikman of UCLA. Win the game, and we'd end up with the 2nd pick.

Well, the Packers played their hearts out and earned a win - and the 2nd pick of the draft.

Yes, that pick turned out to be Tony Mandarich of Michigan State AND Steriods University. That pick didn't work out so well - especially in the mid 90's where every year the Packers would have to play Dallas in the playoffs (always in Dallas) - and always get knocked out soundly by the Cowboys.

Of course, if we lost that game, yes, we would have had Troy Aikman. The bad part is, we wouldn't have had Brett Favre.

And we would have lost out on the QB that holds every record associated with a QB known to man (including interceptions). Still wouldn't have traded that for anything - 1996 was a fun year (beating NE in the Super Bowl - which I got to witness in person).

Having Tony M - well, that wasn't such a great experience. But we COULD have drafted Barry Sanders instead (picked 3rd by the Lions that year).

But I do feel your pain, even with that long story :toast:

Taking Mandarich was the BEST thing that happened to Green Bay since the late 60s. Also, remember they had a chance to take Barry Sanders as well but the mandarcih pick set them way behind and Green Bay cleaned house and ridded Infante and whoever the GM was.. Wolf and Holmgren took over and the team has been succcessful ever since.

BP - right - I pointed out the Barry Sanders pick in my message. They also could have taken Derrick Thomas (4th) or Deion Sanders (5th).

But hindsight is 20/20. Nobody can really blame them for taking Mandarich (I certainly don't). Everyone had him as the #2 in the draft (as far as my memory remembers, that is).

Can you imagine if they had Sanders, and then ended up getting Favre? They probably would have won more than 1 SB in the 90's.....

Oh yea, I had forgotten about Lindy Infante. Thanks for the pleasant memories....

We had Les Steckle and now I can add Chile to the list.

Here's the funny thing - I saw that Lindy won "coach of the year" in 1989 - (Sporting New, AP AND UPI) - and the Pack didn't even make the playoffs that year :mj07:

I believe that was the year of the "Majik Man" - Don Majkowski.

There was recent story about Majik - I found it on the web, don't know if ESPN or somebody did it - but was very interesting. Scouts said he was the read deal, until injuries derailed his career.

His ankle (which he hurt in 1992 when Favre took over) has been a constant issue - in fact he was even thinking of amputating his foot recently because the pain was so bad from the ankle injuries. I guess he has it under control now....

Walks down memory lane - remembering the old names (I forgot about Steckle) is a lot of fun, except that part of remembering that we are old to remember this crap.....

Oh yea, here is something you can appreciate... my Grandpa (who is passed, God bless his heart) was a huge Packer backer - had season tickets since 1945 - and even went to many road games....

He was at both of the 1st 2 SB's... and gave me his game ticket stubs from Game 1 and Game 2 - and also his game programs (but his son stole them from me when he passed - long story - but I still have the ticket stub from the 2nd Super Bowl).....

His season's were great - 50 yard line, 30 rows up - but again, I lost those when he passed (my mom and her brother hated each other - and since my mom was not confrontational, he "won"). And I lost my tickets - but it upset my mom so, I certainly couldn't make much of a deal about it......

You win some, you lose some.

I thought posted in NFL forum...my bad!!:142smilie

Yes, good point about getting some else instead....and in the NFL....you never know right?

Just seems that Peterson is such the perfect fit for a secondary in shambles and someone the Boys definitely need. Your talking about an immediate impact player that has all the tools. Now....slim chance at best we get him...knowing Jones...we will trade down to acquire more picks

No...I am not "crying" about it but I have been thinking about it and wanted to post for fun to get a thread going....or others to share similar feelings...a la Tony Mandarich! :mj07:

I know what you mean. I was so pissed that the Raiders won their last game and went 8-8. The Patriots have their first round pick and I was hoping for a top ten pick instead of the 17th pick. :popcorn2

I believe the Pack were 10 - 6 that year and the Vikes ended their season on Christmas night against Cincy. If the Vikes win they are in, if they lose Pack in.. Kramer hit someone in the endzone with 2 minutes left to seal the deal. They showed the Packers and Majik man all sad from his living room..

I do believe that is also the day Billy Martin died.

Well Purple...we share on common belief...that both our coaches SUCKED this year!! Childress and Phillips didn't help our teams chances of having a successful year!

Looks like we are both going with young coaches.....

Very similar seasons.... Cowboys played much better than the Vikes did at the end..
