I'm tempted to take Yale with the points tonight.........
I think that I will..only 1/2 unit as CT could really dominate.
1. CT reserves could be a dd favorite against Yale and as far as talent and athleticism is concerned....there is obviously no comparison..........BUT
2. Personnel............Charlie Villanueva is still out for ncaa investigation (travel to nba tryouts) and watch Taliek play with his turf toe and try to do too much NOT being 100%......He will most likely share much time with freshman Marcus Williams (he's good but 1st game...may need a few) Yale may not be a top opponent but they are not the 'Beltway Ballers" either.
3. Yale has 4 or 5 guys who can shoot the 3 and I'm thinking that they'll slow this game down somewhat against these thoroughbreds. Edwin Draughn and Alex Gamboa bring some experience to the guard spots and in addition to Vitelli and Mintoff ( who should be good for about 10 each) add princeton transfer Domenick Martin at 6'10" (will help) and Yale may play tough as a TEAM
Coach Calhoun will give all of his boys playing time tonight and work on rotations.....He wants Okafor to SCORE and DEMAND the ball down low.... He wants Ben Gordon to really step it up this year and feels that he cannot be stopped.
This could lead to some sloppy play, some ill advised shots.
1st game..and public is all over CT at Gampel .....should get 20 by game time and this one sets up well for the back door.
I really think this will be a special team later on in the year and it will probably result from answers that Calhoun will get from games like tonights.
Small Play on Yale
