I think CT is the best team in the country!
I think that CT WILL lose again during the regular season...too tough not to come out flat on the road at least once more vs a good team.
Maybe at "Nova', Maybe at W Va. but if I can play them under 5 against anyone I will including both of those teams............... How good is CT???
Very good and they are beginning to play Very Well...No stat leaders..because of shared minutes but no tired players going to tournament.
Ct players have to be happy with the minutes that they get..........only 1 at 30.5 (Marcus Williams) all others in 20s and teens....stats may suffer a bit but team is VERY DEEP and talented
Point is there is very little let up in talent a/o production as they rotate. Fresh legs and a dominant rebounding team make CT the choice as they are playing their BEST ball right now... 'Nova" will be a zoo...but everyone gets up for CT......

If all Villanovas and CT players with 10 + min were to average 35 min per game these would be their proportionate numbers:

Foy.. 21 with 5.6 reb.........R.Gay.. 18.9 ..7.7 reb
Ray..19.6 with 4.5 reb.....R. Anderson..21.6..4.6r
Nardi..14 with 2.3 reb....J Boone... 13.8..9.3r
Lowry...14 with 5.6 reb...M.Williams..11.4..9.3 asst
Sheridan 6.2 with 7.8 reb..Hilton A..13.2...9.3r
Fraser.....8.5 with 8.0 reb..D Brown..14.9..6.7r
Cningham..4.7 with 7.4 reb.J Adrian..14.8..10.5r
Clark ......7.5 with 7.2 reb..E.Nelson..13.3..13r
..................................... M Johnson..15..5.6r
.....................................C Austrie..7.5 ..5.6 asst
Just playing with the numbers but its telling...

FYI, this game is at the wachovia center which won't be loud at all with it being the sixers stadium and a lot of normal bball fans there. think its a huge advantage for conn to play this game at the wachovia center and not the paviliion.

That is a pretty bold statement.
What seeing as how they are only ranked #1.

Do you think Duke is probably the 2nd best?

you act like the rankings are the tell-all factor in college basketball. frankly, i don't know if they even matter in the least.

Kegray,

I spoke of this team's strength long before season started and to the effect that they would be improved after losing Villanueva if I remember correctly....The ranking means nothing to me...Its the team and their current play...I'll be the first to tell you Kegray, that CT teams suffer from inconsistent play......and frequently....do not play the full 40 minutes...at a high level...That said..Right now....not necessarily last week..They are the best team...with the most talent ...playing the best ball....If they lose at "Nova" or W. Va. they will still have the most talent......but only prepping for #1

Bear,

I remember you saying a long while back how Calhoun methodically prepares this team for tourney time. At this late stage in the season, I think a quality HC like Calhoun takes complete control and gets maximum production from his players. Granted, Uconn has the talent. And Calhoun knows how to coach and develop champions.

Hey Buddy,

You are right...JC does have his team playing at a high level right now......He still has to keep a lot of guys happy...and highly motivated...not always easy when former starters are coming off the bench and getting 20 min.
Notice, however, that the few that used to finish a blowout like the 'Hall" stay on the bench now...Ryan Thompson..etc. and Ed Nelson gets his while Rudy Gay is close to 30 per and his mainstays are getting just a little more. He is smart and will have everybody ready for March.

Not too many avg 40 min per.....in fact noone
Regs who play full game usually avg around 35...

You missed my point regarding your meaningless extrapolation of stat data. I said we wouldn't have 40 minute games since you have 18 players averaging 35 minutes - either we extend game time or there will be more than 5 players on the court for each team. Get it?
Don't get me wrong, I'm on UConn as well but I hate seeing stats like this which mean virtually nothing. These players are earning their stats with their given playing time -not- despite their playing time. You change their playing time then you change rotations, bench depth, defensive sets, offensive sets, etc etc. All of which contribute to a teams production
Had you left the stats in their original form it would have been more compelling. UConn gets good all around production from the WHOLE team and that is why they are so successful right now.
Uconn has 7 players with 20+mpg, with 4 of them in double digit ppg and 2 with 9ppg. The seventh man is their freshman guard who hasnt been much of a scorer but is putting up 3.7 assists a game. Nova relies on 4 top guys avging 28-33mpg with avgs of 10-20ppg. They have 2 other players at 4ppg, and they get little production otherwise. That's a compelling comparison, not extrapolated stats.

Zebbers.......

Zebbers.......

Zebbers......... (oh exalted stat guru)
I like my "meaningless stats"
I'm so sorry that you "hate seeing stats like this which mean virtually nothing" (to you.. oh wise one)
Uh, I realize that players earn their stats with given playing time....and that the offensive sets and defensive sets and overall pt is a result of varied rotations.(insightful)
Uh,there are not too many who are not aware of your standard"compelling stats" as they are easily accessable to any nitwit....like me...in any stats data base..
Soooo...I apologize for my use of "meaningless stats" that mean "virtually nothing"..... and promise to never extrapolate in order to show how REALLY EFFECTIVE a player, averaging 3.8 points a game, is in very limited playing time. And perhaps how cumulatively these very productive bench players may make the big difference...See sometimes when I see 3.8 pts I might think of nothing more than a marginal bench player...
OK...nuff said............Oh, did you read the disclaimer that disclosed that I was just playing with numbers.....OK....gl to you zebbers

It's easier to show that by saying he is averaging 3.8ppg in only x mpg than it is to extrapolate. But I digress; whatever numbers tickle your fancy is fine.

Uconn is -2.5 right now... looks like the public is on nova, i already layed -3 and Ill add a little on the -2.5

I dislike Uconn, but I'm taking them at (-3). I think they will be to big for Nova at the end. Nova has been barely scrapping by some alright teams at best as of late. Nova would have to have a great day from behind the arc to win this one. If Sumpter was there, I think it would be different, but he's not. So, I think in the end, Uconn wins this game due to their overall depth and size........
