At 9.5 you have to go under. 9 is as close to a key number as there is in baseball totals. Besides, the Cubs cannot hit. Just pitch around Sammy every time and let McGriff and Alou beat you. Cruz may be 0-6 but his ERA is around 3.00 so he's pitched well enough to win. The Cards bullpen got a needed rest yesterday.

but the cardinals bullpen got some good rest last night so wouldn't you assume that even if stephenson only went 4-5 innings that their BP could do the job?

They may even need one more day rest, at least their middle or long relievers. Their BP pitched 8 innings on Sunday. The layoff angle is another from Lee's book. I tracked it on another site last season and it had very positive results.
