We have had a great discussion here at Madjack's today about the total on this game.......some excellent input from a variety of sources.........and the unanswered question seems to be "Why is this total so high?"

Why indeed with two struggling offences? Colorado has scored 4 runs or less in 5 of their last 6 and yes, 5 of those games were at Coors Field, and Chicago has scored more than 3 runs only once (last night's 5 runs) in their last 6 games. They also haven't given up more 4 runs in any of their last 7.

Why indeed with two solid starters? Bere has a YTD HW/IP ratio of 1.24 and Thompson sits at a sparkling 1.11.

Why indeed? The reason is the ballpark. No other park in the Major Leagues so reflects the weather in the total than Wrigley Field. There are hot summer days when the wind blows out and the total is set at 12 or 13 and the game routinely goes over. There are also frigid, and/or damp days where the total is set at 7 or 7.5 and the games routinely go under.

This line is set high for a reason.....don't be fooled. The lineups are out and all significant players are starting (See:Larry Walker).

I'm playing big Over 10,-115.

Good luck out there,
Tiger

Played under because:
Bere 1-7-1 under day games this year@ home
Thompson 0-4 under this yr. given up total 6 runs away in 2 st.
Umpire Marsh 72% under this yr. 8.11 rpg.
Who knows about that "Windy City" . Gl anyway. Just got it on a parlay.

Both are mainly groundball pitchers I believe, but as someone noted, the heat and humidity should mean we get to the BP's early, which in the case of the ROCKIES pen should be good for about 4-5 runs. However, if we don't start getting some key hits, it ain't gonna matter. Can't believe there have been runners in scoring position in EVERY half inning, and we've got 1 run on the board. PATHETIC!!! LET's get this thing tied up 5-5 so I can turn the dang thing off!

7 hits, 2 walks, and 1 error thru 3.5 innings and only 1 run!!

Oh well, baseball is a game of big innings so maybe one is just around the corner.

the stage is set:

in your left corner, tiger, the veteran, checking in at 2,034, and wearing striped boxers. confident, using his wit in game/line psychology to beat the man.

in the opposite corner, bohawk, the rookie, with a measly 266, young, restless, but also very confident, making use of raw facts and figures to beat the man.

who will win this fight?

the stage is set, come back later, after a few beer and cigarette breaks for the results.

I have seen enough of this game to realize it's staying under.

As he was with Milwaukee, Jeff Cirillo continues to be the worst .300 hitter in baseball. Has that guy ever gotten a clutch hit in his life?

hey Pepin, if I were drinking a beer for every RUNNER LOB, hell I'd be averaging better than a beer an inning!

I only keep posting HOPING someone comes on and POSTS how "stupid" TIGER is blah blah blah and how this game is a LOCK to stay under!

NEED to get some ANTI-jinx Karma going and get the CUBBIES to explode for like six or seven runs... then, when the game is outta reach, the ROCKIES with their bloated stats can come up and pick up some hits, rbi's, etc... to pad their ridiculous numbers!

After some of the things we have seen lately the over is still possible, but not probable. I still have to give Tiger a vote of confidence for making an educated play and standing behind it. Before the game started I would have to have agreed with his logic. Glad I didn't play the total. I'm still sweating getting the Cubs in.

When you put your picks up in front of the whole world and do it with conviction it takes courage. Tiger and Raymond both have balls of steel when it comes to doing that and that gets a "thumbs up" from me every time. And if anyone is critical . . . well, that gets a different finger.

No offence taken at all Profitcity........I know you're just trying to jump start the offences!

At least we're into both bullpens now, but 8 runs needed with only 2.5 innings left might be a little too much to ask for?

AMEN NCU... I totally agree. TIGER is usually golden when it comes to these, and hopefully NOW that we've gotten into the BP's we can post some numbers and pull this one out. If not, oh well, didn't have a barrel to my head when I punched the ENTER button! I'd be happy if it LANDED 10 at this point, that way TEDY and his 8.5 wins, which would SUCK to lose with that line btw, and the UNDER 10.5 would still cash. I got a little on the CUBS too, so a push on the total is fine with me!
