We have had a great discussion here at Madjack's today about the total on this game.......some excellent input from a variety of sources.........and the unanswered question seems to be "Why is this total so high?"
Why indeed with two struggling offences? Colorado has scored 4 runs or less in 5 of their last 6 and yes, 5 of those games were at Coors Field, and Chicago has scored more than 3 runs only once (last night's 5 runs) in their last 6 games. They also haven't given up more 4 runs in any of their last 7.
Why indeed with two solid starters? Bere has a YTD HW/IP ratio of 1.24 and Thompson sits at a sparkling 1.11.
Why indeed? The reason is the ballpark. No other park in the Major Leagues so reflects the weather in the total than Wrigley Field. There are hot summer days when the wind blows out and the total is set at 12 or 13 and the game routinely goes over. There are also frigid, and/or damp days where the total is set at 7 or 7.5 and the games routinely go under.
This line is set high for a reason.....don't be fooled. The lineups are out and all significant players are starting (See:Larry Walker).
I'm playing big Over 10,-115.
Good luck out there,
Tiger
