I agree with much of what is being said logistically on this topic. Lloyd is going to retire to the athletic department and I do believe that the next coach will be Les Miles. However, I highly doubt that Les will agree to keep too many of the assistants. Pelini will not come with him and Ron English will stay on the Michigan staff unless he receives a decent head coaching offer. Andy Moeller might stick around in some capacity simply because of the strong Michigan ties; however, his offensive lines have been suspect even with blue chip talent. And finally, Soup Campbell might stay as the receivers coach as an alum who has produced talent. But I think that is where it probably stops.

DeBord and Miles will clash philosophically on the offensive side. Plus, DeBord has tried everything as an assistant including Special Teams Coordinator and has not had any success yet. Loeffler has not really worked well with the QB's which would lead me to believe that his job would be in jeopardy. However, he has done quite well as a recruiter. Fred Jackson and Steve Szabo have to be at the end of their careers...hopefully. Stripling has no Michigan ties and might be better suited for the NFL. And Bedford is too new to keep.

And finally that brings us to Mike Gittleson. Somebody lost a friekin bet...that is the only way I can explain how this guy is still employed. Just because he looks exactly like Bryon James "Detective Keough" from the 48 Hours movies doesn't mean that he should continue to be the strength and conditioning coach. If Les keeps him around, something is wrong.

That's just my take....I could be wrong.

Carl, you need to understand that Miles is disliked by Carr and Les is going to have to make some concessions if he is going to get the job. I've been told he will.

English - he may leave for the right opportunity, possibly in the NFL. His goal is to be a head coach and that won't be happening at UM for at least 10 years if Miles is hired.
Debord - he will stick around and do what Miles asks of him because, quite frankly, he's going to need a job. I can see him going back to the ST coach and assistant HC role
Loefller - he's going nowhere, and will probably be OC. He has been held back by Debord and will be a great asset to Miles. Just ask Tom Brady, who pushed for him to come to the Pats when Debord was promoted. Loefller probably would have left if not for some family issues.
Campbell - will stay
Moeller - will stay, he's a friend of Les
Bedford - will stay, coached under Les at OSU, might be promoted to DC if English leaves
Szabo/Jackson - likely will retire with Lloyd
Stripling - will be back
Gittleson - I agree he's a dinosaur and he will leave with Carr. Will Tolbert get promoted though? That's the big question. He's just as bad.

Carl---Gittleson is the Ice Man.......Det. Cates arrest that man!!!

CWood---cant say that i disagree w/ any of your predictions up above.....i can disagree w/ them as outcomes, but I think you're nailing it pretty close to how it will eventually work out.

I thought last year, we should elevated both English and Loeffler to DC and OC respectively, but Lloyd went w/ his crony DeBord as OC.

I would enjoy Leoffler as OC. Hopefully he ditches that zone blocking scheme.

Many dont like him anymore, but I still think English is a good DC.....Saturday's effort, however, was a little bit of a blow in my belief in him.....i liked how he had turned around and rebuilt this D, but Saturday was a step back.....but, he is not ready to be a HC at a place like Michigan, he could use a lot more seasoning, and I am hopeful he does that at UM....he is only at the end of his second year as a full-on DC and w/ his recruiting capabilities and such I am fine with him on staff.

While not sold on Miles, I do think he will bring a little SEC-esque strength and conditioning w/ him, which will replace the current old fashioned methods even if Tolbert stays.

CWood - While I will buy into your theories on most of the assistants, I still question a couple of your calls. First of all, Mike DeBord's special teams units from a few years back were atrocious even by Michigan's special teams standards... and that's saying a lot. He hasn't really cut it with any unit, and he was a disaster as a head coach. Loyalty or not, it is tough to keep him around. Secondly, while I agree with you that Loeffler is popular and has potential, why would someone like Miles put his offense in the hands of an unproven 30 year old. He is a nice guy and has the Barbarton ties, but no way could someone like Les think that he is ready for that. Plus, could you name a quarterback that Scott has developed in his tenure as QB coach?

No matter what happens though, these guys are going to get paid for another year!

Toledo Tom - Don't worry about the zone blocking scheme. That will be put in file 13 as soon as Hart grabs his diploma. It was put in place for him, and it is easy to see that Grady, Minor and Brown are not best suited for that scheme.

While we are at it...

While we are at it...

Here are some things I will not miss:

1. Rarely returning a kickoff past the 20.

2. Routinely having kickoffs returned past the 30.

3. Anticipating hearing a thump-thump every time we kick a FG.

4. Opening the game by running left.

5. Never covering as a road favorite.

Debord - the years Debord coached special teams were actually the best in the Carr era in this department. 2004 was especially good. This was assisted by having Breaston, but Debord was a good ST coach. His is an average (at best) OC and was a debacle as a head coach. That doesn't mean he won't be given a place on the staff to appease Carr.

Loeffler - Who has he developed? Where do I start?!?!? Scott has sent every one of his QB's to the NFL, including Gutierrez who never started at UM and is now with the Pats. That tradition will continue with Henne as he'll be a first day pick. Tom Brady has been quoted as saying Loeffler was the single biggest coaching influence on him in college, even though he was a GA at the time. John Navarre went from being quite possibly the worst QB I have ever seen, to being UM's all time leading passer and an all big ten choice his senior year. That, my friend, is turning chicken sh!t into chicken salad. The only reason Loeffler isn't in the NFL or coordinating an offense at another BCS school is because he loves Ann Arbor (and for family reasons I won't get into). The guy is a stud young coach, flat out. Miles will obviously have a lot of influence on the offense as he has an offensive background but expect Loeffler to be named OC or at least co-OC.

BTW, Bill Bilichick handed his offense over to an unproven 30 year old. How is that working out for him? ;)

Agree on Loeffler....we saw last year what turning the D over to an aggressively-minded young coach could do.....it would be nice to see us do the same with the offense......i'm happy giving Loeffler a shot at OC.

You are right about what Brady said about Loeffler......and as far as Navarre, just consider that Northwestern all but pulled his scholarship offer when Barnett left; he begged Wisco for a scholarship, but they said no thanks, but maybe as a D-Lineman; and he ended up at Michigan playing QB. He was hardly the best at UM, but given the expectations on him coming out of high school, I'd say the folks at UM, Loeffler especially, coached the kid up big time.

Don't worry Cie, I can't picture any scenario in which Les would leave prior to the bowl game.

IMO Lloyd will not announce the retirement until just prior to or just after UM's bowl game Jan 1st. Martin will then start the "search" and do his interviews and of course the required minority interviews leading up to the BCS title game. Les will get the last "interview" and accept the job.

maybe they should look at minorities, they may find a better football coach.....
