even though unc put out my alma mater I cant ride away from oregon state. I think they are clearly the better team. Both teams have good pitching, but osu's bats are better and defensive fundamentals.

Daniel Bard will start for UNC on Monday. The first-round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox beat Cal State Fullerton 6-5 on Wednesday despite allowing a career-high 12 hits.

"He's been our guy all year," Fox said. "I think Daniel will be ready. Today, the way the game went, you give Hovis the day off and Carignan the day off. We've got some rested arms."

Bard is very shaky though. He just has a live arm. I watched him live against bama and we rocked him because his control is very questionable. he lasted under 3 innings.

I just played Oregon State for 5* (+130). They have been playing elimination baseball the whole CWS and I expect them to get a victory today. Oregon State rallied from a 5-0 deficit for the big win last night. They take home the trophy with a 7-5 victory!

HARD TO OVERLOOK!

Only one team in the last 25 years (USC in 1998) has won the College World Series after losing its opening game. It's certainly not a statistic that warms the hearts of Cal State Fullerton fans or the winner of tomorrow's Georgia-Oregon State elimination game. It is good news for the four teams which won in the opening round: Clemson, North Carolina, Rice and Miami. Fifteen of the last 16 national titles have been won by a team that started 2-0 in Omaha. That's 94% boys! You want to bet against that number?

Also, for the third year in a row, an unseeded team (UNC) won its first two games at the CWS. The other two teams went on to win it all.

Liking North Car in this spot. Gunderson won't be able to pitch for Oregon St and he was their closer and one of the top in country.

Excerpt from ESPN column:

Fox at least has the comfort of handing the ball to Daniel Bard, a first-round draft pick with a 9-3 record. Casey, who has a team full of dead arms that are being sustained by big hearts, probably goes with what's left of Jonah Nickerson.

All Nickerson has done in Omaha is heave 223 pitches in two starts over four days, eliminating both Miami and Rice. Asking him for more on three days' rest seems a bit perverse, but Oregon State has no other viable options -- and Gunderson is probably blown up for anything but a one-inning closeout.

I'm on UNC. I think OSU's dead arms catch up with them tonight. Nickerson is a stud, but hard to imagine he can be spectacular again given how much he has thrown this past week. I can't imagine Gunderson will be available.

Sorry I'm going against you Wise, but one of us will be happy. I really like Nickerson for Oregon State and think he's a better SP than Bard plus the Beavers hit a little better.

Nice going for Beaver backers (Oregon State has become my new favorite baseball team after the CWS). I kept playing Oregon State the entire tourney as Underdogs most of the time and I'm glad they came through for me.

Unfortunate for UNC backers as a routine play turned into an error and cost them. I really feel for Tar Heel backers like Wise & Wiser who had so much invested. I played a lot of dogs in the CWS and did fairly well.

2006 NCAA Baseball CHAMPS = Oregon State BEAVERS!

Congrats D! No regrets for me. I would still make that bet every day of the week, and twice on Sundays. Oregon State deserves the national championship. Tremendous heart! Don't feel sorry for me though, I still ended up making $760 today!
