Dallas in week one

I'll post this early, because I probably won't be doing many explanations during the season itself.

Take Dallas in week one. Everyone already likes Atlanta to kill Dallas in week one simply because they remember what Atlanta did last year and how awful Dallas was. If you believe in trap games, there here it is. I guarantee alot of people will be on Atlanta, but barring any injuries or significant changes I will be on Dallas.

Don't reply to this post with hundreds of reasons why to take Atlanta, because there are many.

Just remember there was a ton of reasons to take GB over Atlanta in week one of the playoffs last year too

I wasn't serious about the "don't reply" part. My point is just this, and I'll reiterate it one more time. Sometimes games look too easy. If you are looking at the week 1 lines, like many people are at this time for some reason, and the season doesn't start for another 2 months, and you can say that this line looks like a gift, then its probably a trap.

Not saying Atlanta will be good or bad this year, just beware of them in week one.

My opinion might change, but as of now, if I asked 15 people at my local pub who they would take in this game I'm guessing about 14 would say Atlanta and wouldn't think twice.

That is a good point Dave. As a veteran of sportsbook bars in Vegas, the last thing you want is for every Joe in the bar to like a game. Very seldom (if ever), when everyone you know likes a team in a particular game, do they win.

(But so far in MJs forums, about half of the respondents seem to like Dallas)

To me the true test of this game will come 1 or 2 days before the game. I have found that when all the people in a group like one team a lot BUT THE LINE HAS NOT MOVED, go against everyone. If all the little guys are betting a team and the line doesnt move, it means big money is on the other team. Thats when I feel the game is a trap.

So around Friday afternoon the line is still ATL -2, it would be time to bet Dallas.

Yeah definitely. But its just early, and all I've heard is Atlanta, Atlanta, Atlanta....

Dallas has no QB, Dallas is worse than last year, Dallas offense stinks, Dallas O-line stinks, Atlanta beat GB in the playoffs last year, Dallas didn't come close to the playoffs last year, Atlanta has one of the best QB's in the game who'll carve Dallas' D a new hole....

I didn't pick this game out myself, its just a few months before the first week and people already like Atlanta. Obviously I'll watch the line movements (if there are any) but this game does have potential.......

think that is big if....but Parcells may pull it off first game...he is a master motivator; he could come up with a credible game plan with the little talent he has at his disposal...if they beat Atlanta....the public will be all over them following Monday niter at Giants....thats when they get there asses handed to them...like that scenario as a back-up plan...keep write-ups coming....good stuff....

Before seeing that Dallas was playing ATL (very much a public favorite now), I had stated that no matter what you should go against the Boys in the first week. This was based on the hiring of Parcells. Stiffs love new coaches with reputations and Parcell is the king there. I think this line was probably hard for Vegas to set based on two non-critical factors in this game--new coach on one side and heavy sentimental favorite on the other.

Just my opinion.

I like aldabra's opinion on the second week.

Yeh but Dallas does not have a decent QB. And not a solid backfield either. The defense better be alot better or Dallas is going to be eating hot dogs from the Varsity.

Parcells can't even do anything to make the two QBs better.

Atlanta will really want this first game. If they are going to be a playoff team, Atlanta will win this game. The real test is pre-season which I will tape the games and go over and over the plays.
