I get home tonight and start downloading records to my computer so I can clean them up and put on a cd. My son(16) walks in and sees the turntable..

Him..Whats that??

Me.. Whats what??

Him ..That thing on the counter

Me.. A record player

Him..Whats it do?

So this goes back and forth for a while and then he asks what the black things on the record are..So I tell him that its the spaces between songs..then it hits me.

I honestly dont know if he had ever seen a record play on a turn table. Talk about feeling old. That would be like my grandparents showing me a wind up phonograph.

So that got me to thinking..damn this world is moving quick.

Just a few things from when I was a kid and you can see how fast and far things have come.

1st video game....cant remember its name but it was before atari. Had 2 games..pong and football. The football players were just blobs on the screen.

Recording music off the radio onto cassette...DJs would always talk at the beginning and end of each song so you couldnt get it clean.

1st tv reception...rabbit ears.

1st computer..dont know the name but everything had to be saved on a cassette tape. It was as basic as basic could get.

Ok Im done rambling on. I have to go warm up my milk and get to bed early because Wal-Mart is having a special on Depends tommorow. Whats it going to be like when I hit 40???

:D

Bubbas, darlin', you do NOT wanna know......LOL

try pushing the middle mark between 40 and 50 and having one that just turned NINE years old (today as a matter of fact) ... wouldn't even believe the explaining you need to do on things you didn't have as a kid ;)

I had a conversation with one of my friend's 12 year old sisters that could not grasp the concept of not having a remote control for the TV. Some of her questions were:

"But how did you mute the TV?"

"But what if you wanted to switch the channel?"

"But what if you were laying in bed and you wanted to go to sleep but the TV was still on?"

This was several years ago, but it was my first experience with something like that. I'm only 29 (probably 22 at the time), so I assume I will have these experiences more often down the road.

I tried to come up with words that will be unused in 10 years. Fast forward and Rewind were two of them. DVDs and CDs (which will probably be useless in 10 years) are eliminating those terms.

gardenweasel..you wouldnt believe the hard time I had in finding a turntable. I must have went to 5 different places before finding one at circuit city. It was sitting back in the corner. Display model and the only one they had. I doubt they restocked it. At least I found the program that takes out the pops and hisses before moving them onto a cd.

djv..I am not looking forward to that day. Kids will say some of the funniest things. At least its funny when they are not yours and they are not talking about you.:D

Mamma..Hope your little one had a good birthday. A couple of more years and the fun really starts then:D :D

Whoever said that time goes by faster the older you get knew exactly what they were talking about. I would say that when I hit 30 time went into overdrive and hasnt slowed up one bit.
