also Saint Joseph's they are awesome, but they will lose against a physical team

im still waiting for someone to take me up on my offer that gonzaga goes deeper into the tourney than st.joes. ;) doesnt matter to me what the stakes are. college t-shirt of choice. a monetary wager. but zags will be in the dance longer.

Carolin'a depth is going to be a huge problem if, as many suspect, they are headed for Denver. I am hoping the cards pan out and we get UNC-Kansas in a 4-5 game. That would be fun.

As for Mizzou - while I was against them last night, when they were looking very down I predicted they would win Big 12 tourney to dance. Now it looks like they may not even need that. Reminds me of a couple of years ago when they snuck in as a 12 with great talent and nearly pulled out the regional final.

gman, nobody will take that bet. St. Joe's will win the first found and get out-rebouded and lose the next one. Rhode Island proved to me they should have been beat.

So. Cal
Zags are a tough team no doubt about it, however they play best when they are the "cinderella".
They most likely will stay in the West and the NCAA usually loads up the west and if the zags slip in the wcc tourney (watch out for st marys) they could drop to a 4 seed with a possible second round matchup vs an athletic team from a major conf. (unc=gt=wake)

As for St. Joes, i dont think they are as good as the Zags but feel they will get an easier draw but dont expect to see them last past the sweet 16. In fact against the right 8-9 team (mizzu) i could see them exiting in round 2

A west coast team to watch out for is washington-this team is hot and for real if they can get in the tourney they could upset a few people and make a serious run at the sweet 16 as a 12-13 seed beating a 5 and a 4

I just took that bet, because all the bullshitters in the world keep spewing the same crap that Joe's can't rebound, but it's guard play that wins in the tourney, and they have it.

agree with gman----love Gonzaga--lots of depth, can shoot the ball and freethrows, and deep at the big man spot. Excellent rebounding team. Got gonzaga going to the final four.

sleepers: providence---north carolina--will know more after the conference tournaments. Some teams get real hot.

You aren't the bullshitter.

If I were to lose this bet, then it would just be like giving you back the money you already made for me!

But every time this comes up, every moron watercooler idiot starts with the rebounding crap.

i agree with you, i think west and nelson are too much for a lot of teams...they're gonna get farther than most people think

yeah those guards went far last year - and ont give me that whiny "one of them wasnt 100% crap". they lost to a team that probably shouldnt have even been in the tournament

Tested teams are the ones who tend to do best, and that isnt St Joes and really isnt Gonzaga either.

By the way, was Carmelo Anthony a guard?

As for Gonzaga, while the west is always loaded, they will get their first 2 games in Seattle so its hard for me to see any likely 6-7 seeded team winning up there. I imagine NCAA would like to put Arizona there, but it can thappen if Stanford is in the west.

good point- mizzou is one of those "last teams in" kind of clubs that gets that 8 or 9 seed that meets the #1 seed in round 2.

missouri/joes would be an awesome game. both teams have really solid guards.

bombs, Joe's is too small. I can't stand duke, but big teams, like Okla. St. would crush them. I'll go a dime osu goes further in the tourny.

It's not just them, it's the way they play the game, and the leadership they have. Great ball movement and team play. If you want a blueprint for how to play basketball, watch this team. If a team like UConn played like this, they ram the ball up everyone's rear, but alas, they can't.

I'm not wagering everyone on here, but you are seriously underestimating this team. Whatever, this is an unwinnable argument. Too much Digger Phelps for y'all.

Alot of teams would look pretty good in the A-14. That said they have had a great year. I figure they get to Sweet 16 but if they have to face an Arizona or in 2nd round could be some trouble

Okay, I'll go a nickel vs. Gman with Zaga and a nickel vs. HN with OkSt.

I'll open up a new thread for this.

i know what you mean- it has become somewhat 'chic' to knock joes for their rebounding.

to my own credit ;) - ive been mentioning their lack of rebounding way back in december before they played california on the road. they got beat on the boards by some really bad teams early in the season.

but like i said- i know where youre coming from about people "bandwagoning their rebounding weakness".

me personally- its a combination of their rebounding and their lack of inside presence along with not really being tested in their conference (although you can refute that by saying the same for zags). do guards win in the tourney? absolutely. but they normally are guards from teams who have a guy to take pressure off the perimeter guys when you absolutely have to have a basket in the halfcourt of a close game. nelson can break almost anyone down. it will be interesting to see if teams go man or zone against joes in the tourney. rhode island did a GREAT job of rotating their zone. the famed temple zone got smashed by joes both games

It will certainly be close, it's a fun toss up. Both these teams have the ability to make a run, in fact, I agree with almost everything you say about the Zags. These are two good teams.

Gman, I think you'd be in a good spot with this wager. Not because St. Joe's can't go deep, but because I think the Zags are a legit Final Four team. I love St. Joe's, but that game was played at MSG with a VERY pro-Hawk crowd and Turiaff wasn't playing. Not sure if the same result would happen if those two teams play tonight in, say, St. Louis. A true neutral site.
