Got a promotion about 15 days before the Madjack's golf outing.

I have to work WAY more than I did before and I can no longer seem to get out of the office like I did before. (I used to be able to leave and play golf anytime I wanted - for the most part)

The job has better pay, but I work a hell of a lot more.

What is better? Getting paid less and having more free time OR getting paid real well and having very little time for cool shit.

I am thinking of demoting myself - not sure yet....

If you don't need the money I would demote myself. Enjoy life now you might retire and die the next day.

My dad worked the same job for 36 years and died 18 months after he retired.

Stay with it. Soon you will get promoted again and then you can go back to Playing Golf with a hugh Salary.

Think of it this way... you are not gauranteed a tomorrow! Peace of mind, more freee time, and less money is more important IMO. We of course are talking what is "more or Less" which is different for everyone.

I find a happy medium made the most sense for me. In candid discussions (Yep, and I did get hired!) If I asked I do mention that i "Work to Live!" and do not "Live to Work". I need my freedom, and enterainment. It doesn't mean I don't work HARD, just means when I am done, I am done! I could easily put in 80 hours of hard work in my sales position, but there is a point of diminishing returns there, and I stay far away from it! ;)

My son, my family, way more important. My golf game as suffered though, as more lake and cabin time as taken it;s toll on my short game! (I laugh when I say that as I love golf, but I suck!)
