Hey Folks...
Congrats on the start of a new smoke free day..It's NOT OVER but you should be getting used to it and finding it easier to dismiss and get on with it.
Sorry to hear from the folks who did not make it this time (its tough man) BUT..knowing what I know as a smoke free for nearly 5 years..............I would start right back on the smoke free trail and join the celebration once more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :box2:
You guys are in a battle to WIN.
and in this case WINNERS QUIT! God knows..you are going to feel soooooooooooo good and have a much better shot vs the big C and Heart disease, emphysema and diabetes and so many other BAD diseases. SOOOOOOO Good luck today and don't worry about the feisty attitudes...We're getting into the spirit...It comes with the territory!

yesterday, no patch or gum so 2 days in a row for that.

no wheezing in bed at night, no coughing in the middle of the night, no coughing for 30 minutes in the morning, i can take a HUGE deep breath without feeling any pain and without needing to cough and with no wheezing at all.

i think i made it. i always said if i can make it 5 days it's simply a "choice" to go back. i know it's only 4 days but today is a FRIGGIN LOCK!!.

I DON'T SMOKE!

Jack -- Congratulations! has your wife and mom noticed a difference in you yet? Hopefully, you will serve as inspiration to them, so they can quit, too.

Great job everyone.

We are not smokers!

i think that made me stronger.

i'm committed and won't go back.

i saw my father die from smoking. i saw my father grasping for air. i saw the pain he went through.

i saw my mother with a respirator down her throat with a chance of dying within minutes. she made it through, stayed in the hospital for about 3 weeks without smoking, came home and went smoke free for about 3 more weeks and then went right back to smoking AFTER ALL THAT!

now she's back to coughing all day long and she's out of breath all the time. I CAN'T CONVINCE HER TO STOP THIS SHIT. jesus! wake up, mom!

Jack:

A few years back I had to play hardball with my Mother. She was doing things I'd rather not get into. I finally told he that I couldn't be around her anymore. So the bottom line is I told her until she got your act together I was out of your life. That was the wake up call she needed and we're now closer then ever. Sometimes tough love works, it did in this case.

To all you quitters!!!!

To all you quitters!!!!

To all you quitters!!!!
I smoked for 35+ years and I finally quit about 2 years ago when I retired from teaching. Best thing I ever did for myself albeit the hardest. I used nicorette gum, patches, lozenges, inhalator and Zyban all at the same. I finally stopped using the gum 2 months ago. Do whatever works. I became an expert at quitting, I did it so may times prior to stopping. There is always going to be the excuse to have "just one", the bar , the card game, the fb bet, the stress of "whatever", there will always be something, YOU ARE AN ADDICT!!! eventually you will beat it. You will gain weight but you will lose it in a year +. I do feel somewhat better from qutting but there are still times I wish I could have a smoke and I do not think that ever goes away. My 85 year old grandfather told me he still was desirous after stopping for more than 30 years. THIS IS THE HARDEST THING YOU'LL EVER DO KEEP TRYING AND DO NOT GIVE UP. The one piece of advice is that every time you want that smoke -- THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE -- ANYTHING ELSE!! THE ACTUAL URGE ONLY LASTS 30 SECONDS. IT WAS BECAUSE OF THIS THAT I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO QUIT!!!

BTW My second wife died of lung cancer and I did not stop for years afterwards. I HOPE THIS HELPS

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

I agree, Jack.... Better tend to yourself first before calling the kettle black.... ;)

Last night was a little hard because I was trying myself restraint again with the beer.... mostly because I knew that there was no way I was getting my hands on any ciggs at the gf's house and because I wanted to see how I would feel after a few drinks, so that I could be prepared for having a few drinks tonight.... I made it through and actually had a cup of coffee this morning!!!

I feel great today!!! Slept well last night...no cough this morning.... No cravings and no gum so far today.... I'm already prepared to chew some gum tonight when I meet dawgball, blazer and ronnie for a few drinks, but i guarantee you that I will not smoke.... :)

Keep up the great work, team!!! :)

I AM NOT A SMOKER!!!! :nono:

:fingerc: :fingerc:

So I'm driving into work today in probably the best mood i've been all week. Going across the highway and dancing in the car. What happens? Damn copper pulls me over for an expired license plate sticker (expired yesterday). He asked me for my license.. oops.. its on my dresser cause I used it when I went to Montreal last weekend and didnt put it back in my wallet.

I tried every excuse to let him let me go. I told him I was going to get the sticker.. no go.... so I start to play hardball with the copper and his biatch friend. They ask for my name since I can't find my license so I tell them the english version knowing what is going to happen. They come back and ask if I have a license. I tell them yes and they ask me to get out of the car.. :mj07: . So I'm in the back of the cruiser and it dawns on me.. "Officer, sorry but my name is ......, its the italian version, sorry, I don't go by that name" Off he goes again, punching in the name in the computer, calling everyone and still.... He tells me I don't have a license and asks me to be honest. :mj07: :mj07: I laugh.. and tell him "well, I don't look at my license often.. I have a middle name, maybe thats the problem?" After 30 minutes .. he finds me.. I have a clean record, didnt get pulled over in 3+ years. I beg him not to throw the book at me.. and tell him I'm a recovering smoker as I reach for my gum and pop 2 of them. He laughs and tells me he smokes and we start talking about quitting. I tell him, I will give him the secret if he lets me off. His lady friend laughs and says "Jim, just use the gum like he is" :nono: I told him its not that easy.. and told him i really have a secret which most people dont know. :142smilie

In the end, the coppers gives me 2 tickets, no license and expired sticker.. $220 total. :sadwave: I wish him all the best with his smoking problem, spit out my gum, jump in my car and drive away..

I hope the rest of the day gets better! :scared

Glad that you are feeling better, Judge. The gum helps some, doesn't it? :)

Hope that your Horns beat LSU so that we can go Mano y Mano for Round 2.... Your guys took Round 1 in our house, but this is the all-important Round where winner advances and loser goes home.... ;)

I have Texas v Memphis in the Final Four on most of my pool sheets.... Our boys are looking for revenge.... If we both win on Saturday, it should be a great game.... Best of luck with LSU....

Day 5..... Still Here! I've been 4d 11h 46m+ with opportunities to break the fast but somehow, I'm still hanging in. I think of it often but have had few true cravings. I'm doing it this time with no patches or gum... cold turkey.

I feel like I'm in limbo, though. I'm aware that I'm not smoking and haven't for several days but it feels like I'm just biding my time until I can again. Is there anyone else who feels like this? Think it's because I went so long before (22 months) and backslid?

My other half is having a tough time of it, chewing the Hell out of any straw he can get his hands on. He's been moody and spends more time in bed than usual. I'm moody also but seeing some humor in our sour attitudes.

Congrats to those who still say "We are non-smokers"! Keep up the good work!

Day #5 for me and Day #2 for Donna :scared
$$ SAVED: Around $29.00

Feel good today. 1 or 2 small cravings but they last about 20-30 seconds and go away like bike 1 said some posts ago. It's almost like if a craving hits you, stop, take a deep breath (something we can DO now, and count to 30) the craving goes away!!! :D :D

No smokes and no liquor for 5 days.

Having a coffe but will NOT smoke today.

Great job everyone!!!!

ps: Jack, I hope your Mom quits soon!

Remember: :nono: SMOKING!!!!!

I AM A NON SMOKER!!!!

Until tomorrow everyone!!!

(GO MEMPHIS!! 100/1294 to win it all!)
