most people who don't watch it...a) never experienced it..b) don't understand it...c) dont have a rooting interest (fav. driver) and d) some sports arent for everyone

kinda like hockey i guess...better sport in person...never heard of anyone walking away from their first race having a bad time...where else can you bring your own beer into the event?

you just dont realize how fast they are going til you are there and how much is involved...

I've been to two races. Both at Atlanta. Unfortunately, never one of the nighttime races. I imagine that would be even better.

I really enjoyed being at the race. An incredible sporting event to experience live.

Strangely enough, I actually enjoy listening to NASCAR on the radio when driving on Sundays to pass the time. But I can't get into on TV. The way they do the radio broadcast is very interesting.

I don't think there is another sport that maximizes the return on their fan base better than NASCAR. They do this by being real people who are approachable in most cases. The big memorabilia trucks are something to see from a capitalist standpoint. Amazing the amount of coin (or credit card) is dropped on race day.

i would rather close my peter in a car door than watch hockey!! its like soccer with sticks

really? soccers on grass. hockeys on ice. soccer played on foot. hockey on skates. much higher scoring/excitement in hockey. shootouts in hockey. checks/fighting in hockey.
mmmm hmmm reallllllll similar

World cup and Euro cup soccer rules any of the sports discussed in this thread. I've watched no MLS, Premier, La Liga, but would give the latter 2 a whirl.

GET TO A RACE PPL

im tellin ya you would have a absolutley different opinion on the sport....

im not sayin ur wrong, i wasnt the biggest fan at one point, but man seeing it in person is unbelievable.

they have headsets at the races you can either purchase or bring yourself, and it allows you to listen to the drivers/pitcrews during the race. It is something that no other sport allows you to do. you can change to any channel/driver and listen the entire race.

most importantly, there is a lot of beer and good lookin southern girls :toast:
i think its a fair assumption after reading this board for 5 years that the majority on here like beer and women:0074

honestly would love for some of you guys too see what it is like. but then again, a lot of people on here seem to be pretty set in their ways so im probably just wasting my time...

just for the record i wasnt referring to you guys as the ones who are set in their ways, as im sure you guys would be willing....just a select few who i hav noticed believe that they are always right and fail too see others perspectives.

anyways, cie where do you reside? New orleans correct?

and Pimpin, hell ya man if you are that close i would def. encourage a visit. you will honestly be impressed. if not, then i apologize for wasting your time, but seriously man i wasnt a big fan of the sport until recent years. Been to a few. Michigan was my first. honestly changed the way i watched the sport.

hope ya guys get to one eventually. great time :toast:

In the shadows
Final Daytona 500 TV Ratings: The 2011 Daytona 500 earned an 8.2/18 in the metered markets, a +17% boost over last year's 7.0/14 when the race was interrupted twice by track repair delays. Fast national ratings have already been issued for the Daytona 500, with the race posting an 8.7/20 (15.6 million viewers) . Sunday's 8.7/20 is a +13% gain over last year's 7.7/16 and the average viewership of 15.6 million is +17% better than last year's 13.3 million . The Daytona 500 fell into a pattern established last weekend by the Bud Shootout and Daytona Qualifying in that it beat 2010's ratings but fell short of 2009 benchmarks. Sunday's 8.7/20 is -5% lower than the 9.2/19 that FOX posted for the rain-shortened 2009 Daytona 500.
See 2011 TV Ratings and, 4 year chart on the 2011 TV Ratings page.(2-23-2011)

The clip on arron ott at speed is actually pretty cool, what the uninformed are'nt aware of is we pretty much flat foot these things around and ride the brake at the same time when you want the car to do something.

Pasprint let me know when you think the motor went sour? 0 car in the first heat race, lol.
